The Hungry Hog started out as a small-scale catering service, evolving this past month into a suburban cafe that's run with humor and heart. The signature dish? Juicy house-made sausages, one laced with fennel & pepper, the other with nutmeg & sage for an aromatic touch. Prices seem low enough to keep Subang's student population as pleased as pigs in mud; RM50 might be sufficient to feed four people.

Chunky pork spare ribs, slathered in char siew sauce for sweet, sticky succulence.

Five-spice roast pork, since no restaurant like this would be complete without siew yoke. The menu is kept short and sweet, but we wouldn't mind trying their bacon spaghetti & Thai basil minced pork with rice too sometime.

A small selection of beer is offered, perfect for partnering with pork.

Prefer rice instead of bread & potatoes? The Hungry Hog's siew yok rice is more than worthwhile, thanks to perfectly crisp roast pork & delicious, gravy-drenched grains.

Save space for dessert & scream for porky ice cream, laced with candied bacon bits for a sweet-savory bite that's brilliantly addictive.

This is the signature dish, 3 Little Pigs. As the name says it all, 3 little pigs means that the burger is comprised of pork patty, pork bacon, and ham. Also top with some lettuce, onions and cheese. The dish comes with french fries and garden salads. As i eat the burger, i can see the fats dripping on to the plate. Definitely not a good choice for health concerned people. Taste wise, I'm disappointed. I find that the burger is lack of taste. Overall, I feel that I'm eating a big piece of burger with lots of ingredients, but none of the ingredients gave enough flavours and taste. It was just bland. The garden salad is without any dressing, which is ok for me. I like the point that they serve fresh garden salad to toned down the grease. French fries were normal.

This is Bangers and Mash. As the name suggests, it should be served with mashed potatoes. However, the mashed potatoes were sold out and was replaced with french fries. We accepted it as we were informed before placing the order, so no issue here. Though we really prefer mashed potatoes over french fries. This dish is served with fresh garden salad, onion sauce, and the pork sausages. The sausage is not our usual American type of sausages. When you bite into the sausage, you can see the minced pork in it. To me, i think the sausage is bland and i didn't like the texture. I feel the sausage is a bit mushy and I'm not used to eating this type of sausage. The onion sauce is nice. The onions were cooked till soft and the sauce was full of onion's sweetness.

Three Little Pigs (RM15.90). The signature burger consisted of a slice of ham, bacon and pork patty with a layer of cheese, caramelized onions, tomato and cabbage slices. It was served with fries and salad. The melting cheese was creamy. The bacon was crispy and ham was thick. The pork patty was slight burnt on the outside, thus giving some crispiness, the inner part was juicy. The caramelized onions added some sweetness to the burger.

Bacon pasta (RM12.90) was with few pieces of bacon, olive oil, garlic and chilli padi. The presentation was simple. The spaghetti was springy and every strand of it was coated with olive oil. There were a few pieces of bacon, which added some saltiness to the dish. The bacons were crispy. The dish was fragrant due to the addition of garlic. The dish was very spicy as it has chilli padi.

Bangers and Mash (RM15.90). This dish came with two sausages served on top of a bed of onion gravy and mashed potato alongside a salad. The caramelized onions were delicious, sweet, slightly salty and soft in texture. The mashed potato portion was so generous, it was buttery, creamy and quite solid in texture. The sausages fillings were quite compact, slight bitter and salty.

Just as there is only one choice for the salads, there's also only one choice of flavour for ice-cream, but one that we certainly wanted to try - Bacon Ice Cream (RM3.90)! Promoted as containing bacon bits and drizzled with honey, we were wondering how this was going to taste. In the end, the honey turned the vanilla ice cream into something much more sweeter than it should have been, and while the chewy bacon bits added a savoury element, it tasted a tad like long yuk (dried pork) due to its te

We were expecting a more bacon flavour but I guess the combination of bacon and ice cream just wasn't meant to be. Unfortunately not something we will have again.

With a price tag that is at least RM10 higher than the next most expensive main on the menu, we were expecting something special to be served, and the portion of ribs certainly didn't disappoint. It was more than enough meat for one person, even me! The sauce reminded us of what we had at Kalamazoo (a post to come in future), except better. A small complaint could be that the ribs are a bit too dry, but overall it's a satisfying dish, and worth paying the higher price for. =)

While the i-Pork costs RM14, the most expensive burger only costs 2 dollars more. Wendy had the 3 Little Pigs (RM15.90); Hungry Hog's signature pork burger topped with streaky bacon, ham, caramelized onions and melted cheese. Not everything was doom and gloom though! The main courses fared much better than the sides. Hungry Hog only has 4 types of burger on the menu, and this one is called i-Pork (RM 14) that Jeff had. It might sound strange at first, but it actually blended in very well with the rest of the burger, and I think it might have even augmented the pork patty too. Someth

We also ordered the Siew Yuk or roasted pork belly (RM11.90) to share. Since Hungry Hog only serves pork dishes, I was hoping the roast pork here would rival the best that we could find in chicken rice stalls or Chinese restaurants. Alas, I found there was too much fat in the strip of roast pork we got, although the skin packed a crispy punch. Maybe we just weren't lucky that day, but if most of the time this is what's served, I'll give this a miss too.

After Wendy finally made it, we got down to the main meal. Besides our own food we also ordered some to share, like this Tropical Salad (RM12.90). A simple salad, I think it's worth noting that this is the only salad on the menu in Hungry Hog. Nothing out of the ordinary here, with only pineapple cubes and dragon fruit putting the "tropical" part into this salad..

Another starter we had first was the Bacon Strips (RM10.90). While the Keropork was a nice snack, I can hardly bring myself to say anything positive about this. For 6 (only 6..) strips of thin (very thin) bacon, I would not pay the full price for something that even I could fry myself at home. Steer clear of this and save your wallet for other better items on the menu!

we ordered this Keropork (RM5.90) to share. The menu calls it crispy, puffy, fried pork skin, which is essentially exactly what it is. Served with vinegar on the side, this is a very nice bar snack, but obviously so unhealthy! I could hear my arteries crying out with every bite.. =P Don't expect to finish this, unless the table has around 5 people sharing, because otherwise there's just going to be too much fried pork skin!
