Pop Egg Nata Lychee Iced Tea Smile Jul 10, 2012

If I were to give an alternative name to the street (Jalan PJU5/10) nearby Giza Mall, it would be the bubble tea street. Why? Simply because there is Chatime, Ochado, Share Tea and Wu Cha 18 on the same street.

The other day I was looking around which shop to enter to get a cup of bubble tea as a reward to myself after a long week of work, I chose Wu Cha 18 (武茶十八) in the end because I realized I’ve never bought anything from this shop before. It seems that Wu Cha 18 operates its business by upholding 4 main principles: brew with premium tea leaves, freshly make to order, finest quality, and strive for customer satisfaction.

Entertainment corner!

Entertainment corner!

Just like any other bubble tea stores, Wu Cha 18 has several categories of drinks: Fruit Tea series, Milk Tea series, Smoothies, Latte series, Fresh Tea series, Wintermelon series, Macchiato series, Healthy series and Brewed Tea series.

I picked the regular Pop Egg Nata Lychee Iced Tea and paid Rm5.80 for it. I opted for normal sugar level because only through this way I could tell if its default taste is too sweet or bland. Before I had my first sip, I wasn’t sure if I made the right decision by ordering this lychee drink. I never liked lychee drink since young, all thanks to the extreme sweetness of lychee juice in packet drinks. Anyhow, this lychee iced tea tasted surprisingly new to me. It wasn’t too sweet and I could tell that it’s quite refreshing at the same time due to the presence of tea.

Moving on to the pop eggs, they didn’t turn out to be what I expected them to be. The thickness of pop eggs is thicker as compared to the ones in Ochado, which in turn didn’t really “pop” easily in mouth. I had to bite them with my teeth and this certainly didn’t give me the satisfaction of breaking them by just closing my mouth tongue

Simple Yet Healthy II Smile Jul 08, 2012   (Related Review)

Here's another 2 dishes which I ordered at Din Tai Fung.

Above is the Baby Green Beans with Minced Pork. The baby green beans were slightly stirred fried hence they were crunchy and still had a raw texture. The addition of minced pork and dried shrimp (even though this wasn't included in the name of the dish but I was quite sure I saw some of them) were flavourful and slightly salty and therefore they complimented the green beans that were rather tasteless perfectly.

Next up is the Mushroom Vegetarian Dumpling. This dumpling consists of black fungus, dried mushroom, dried bean curd, water chestnut, vermicelli, baby cabbage. All these ingredients were chopped finely and mixed with vegetable oil together, then wrapped in the dough and steamed until cook. As the name implies, these dumplings were more healthy and tasted very fresh due to the vegetables used. Since the taste was very mild and less flavourful than the Xiao Long Bao, some people may not like this dish but I enjoyed eating such plain yet healthy dumplings.

Make a Wish OK Jul 08, 2012

Mr. Wish is also another bubble tea chain store. However, unlike other chains, Mr. Wish has fewer franchises in Malaysia so many people are not aware of it including myself.

Located at GF of The Curve, this kiosk had its Buy 1 Free 1 promotion which ended today and I was lucky enough to purchase them even though the promotion period was over (12-3pm).

This is the attractive menu of Mr. Wish. They have the similar drinks offered by other chains as well but they do have some one-in-a-kind attraction such as the Grape Fiber Jelly Tea.

Some ready made puddings for milk tea are displayed on the shelf at the counter.

Coconut Jelly Milk Tea on your left and Grape Fiber Jelly Tea on your right. The former tastes surprisingly good and the aroma of coconut is quite strong but yet doesn't overpower the taste of milk tea. On the other hand, the grape fiber jelly tea has basil seeds, grape flavoured jelly and grape fiber included by default. I liked the jelly very much because they are so sweet and chewy but not the fiber which tastes the opposite - almost tasteless and soft. It's just not my type of add on because it doesn't enhance the taste or texture of the tea.

Also, Mr. Wish doesn't have a specific corner for pick-ups. Customers collect their drinks from the same place where you placed your orders. Bad idea for this as this will not only slow down the entire process but the customers themselves may get confused if too many people gathered at one narrow corner at the same time.

Pon De Blossom Smile Jul 07, 2012
Categories : Western variety | Café

I've always passed by this donut shop called Mister Donut whenever I do my groceries shopping at Jaya Jusco One Utama. It's written there "... from Japan". However, a quick google search brought me to Wikipedia and it says "Mister Donut is a fast food franchise founded in the United States in 1956." shocked

Nevermind that, I think the most important aspect here is how good their donuts are. Unlike Big Apple, this hidden shop here may have lacked a bit of attention from the potential customers. They have a variety of donuts here, ranging from the French Cruller, Sweet Ring, Sugar Raised, Pon de Ring series etc.

From the picture itself, I can roughly tell that the donuts are are thicker than other donut franchises. Just look at the width of donut yo~

I ordered the Pon de Blossom at a price of RM2.40. Unlike the conventional donuts, this ring-look alike donut has a texture that somewhat resembles mochi; chewy and soft. Usually I'd prefer my donut to be soft and can be chewed off in one bite, but this one has caught my attention. Due to its texture, I get to enjoy this donut longer rather than finishing one within 2 minutes lol The sugar coating on top of the ring is not too sweet either, which is good, because one wouldn't want to have diabetes right? tongue

Din Tai Fung in e@curve is the fourth outlet of this restaurant in Malaysia. Some facts on this restaurant: it's a Michelin Star restaurant, ranked top 10 restaurants by the NY Times and it has franchises in Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Thailand and many more.

Bf and I had our lunch here one afternoon after movie.

That's Loh Hon Guo drink in the background and homemade barley in front. The Loh Hon Guo drink is indeed rich in flavour of each respective ingredient used while the homemade barley is as good as the former. However, I think it should be renamed as homemade barley lemon mad

Above is the Dried Mustard Green & Pork La Mian. The la mian here is very springy and tasty, with the generous portion of
dried mustard greens and pork slices, it serves as a satisfying main course for 2 persons. How could one ever thought of the combinations of 2 simple ingredients can make the la mian more flavourful right? tongue

Of course, we didn't forget their house specialty - Xiao Long Bao. There are several varieties of Xiao Long Bao being served here, namely Pork, Crab Meat, Chicken and Truffle.

Apparently, each Xiao Long Bao here has at least 18 folds and the skin is thin yet firm translucent. You have to carefully lift it up onto your spoon, make a small hole on top of the bao and savour the soup before enjoying the bao slowly. The reason why the soup inside should be eaten first is to prevent you burn your tongue as it will be hot (Xiao Long Bao here is freshly made upon order!smile). The amount of soup is just right and the fillings are too salty either. Anyhow, I thought the skin here is slight thicker than the ones i ate at Dragon-i, and I prefer thinner skins. smile

Oh, I've gotta praise the waitresses here for their great service!
