For those who don't frequent Glenmarie, they would often find Glenmarie being a location where it's hard to find any food stalls there. For those who's familiar with the area will know that there's merely a specific location in Glenmarie where all the food restaurants centralize in. Gusto Giusto is one of those restaurants in that area.

The area here is known to draw in the considerable lunch crowd of the working class during working days but known to be like a ghost town during weekends hence coming on a Saturday or an hour where the lunch crowd has dispersed is best.

Gusto Giusto is an establishment that serves authentic Italian food and uses key ingredients imported from Italy but some things are fine tuned a little to suit the Malaysian taste. Interestingly, the prices on Gusto Giusto's menu are very affordable unlike the usual Italian Restaurants that you usually find in Malaysia where a serving for 2 persons already rack up to more than RM50. But be warned though, there's no alcohol nor pork served here.

Let's not ramble on further and proceed to see what we had on that fateful day.
Started off with Antipasto as an appetizer:

The warm hosts of the place even served to us a special Antipasto for us to try which is with Sun Dried Tomatoes and Buffalo Mozzarella:

The special version that they served us is more towards my liking. The Sun Dried Tomatoes were nice and sweet but not too sweet. The olives were surprisingly pleasant to me. Usually, I don't like olives because of a very strong queer sweet olive taste to it hence I usually take out the olives from pizzas if I see them but this one doesn't give out that strong taste. It still taste like olives and it's sweetness but it's like a milder version of it and goes well with the dishes that were served in. The Buffalo Mozzarella taste like a milkier version of Mozzarella and less cheesiness to it.

Another appetizer served is a delicacy available only in Italy. And even so, it's merely found in Sicily. Over here they called it Nasi Sicily but really, it's Arancini:

Arancini are Fried Rice Balls with breadcrumbs as the outer layer. Something unique to me that I've never tasted before. A crispy breadcrumb outer layer with rice inside and some Parmesan Cheese at the top with some tomato sauce and some Ragù meat sauce in it, I believe. Also some Buffalo Mozzarella and peas in it. Basically, the main taste is the breadcrumb taste followed by the rice taste.

We later carried on with the Pastas.
Our first serving was the Spaghetti Bolognese both the Chicken and Beef variation:

Can't taste much of the meat after all it's minced but I do taste a good load of the pasta along with the sauce. The spaghetti was cooked right. Very soft and tender and nice to the taste buds. The sauce is not too overwhelmingly tomato flavor with sweetish taste (which is the reason why most of the time I would pick Carbonara) but just good for me.

Another Spaghetti served is the Spaghetti Frutti di Mare (Seafood):

I'm not a lover of seafood but this tastes okay.

Yet another spaghetti, Tartufona:

Honey Glazed Chicken Smile Jan 02, 2014

Categories : Western variety | Café | Burgers / Sandwiches

One Friday afternoon, I went into this cafe to actually kill time during lunch since I was waiting for someone. Honestly, I went inside because it don't seem to have many customers hence it would make me feel less guilty in staying longer after finishing a meal during the busy lunch hour.

I ordered the Honey Glazed Chicken as my meal and at first impression it looks nice. The chicken placed neatly on top of a pile of mashed potato which is hidden from view at first glance. The sauce that they provided next to the chicken I believe is a weak mushroom sauce but is really unnecessary because the generous portion of honey glazed on the skin of the chicken is enough to make this chicken succulent. A little disappointed that there's actually not a lot of meat on the chicken but the big amount of mashed potato makes up for it to keep you full.

Pork Chop OK Jan 02, 2014

I've watched 6 2 10 Grill grew from being a nameless shop that's at the Section 17 flats (Happy Mansion) till it moved to a more spacious corner shop at the same place and then adopted the name 6 2 10 Grill and now moved to Aman Suria.

The pork chop tasted okay, good enough to me but the mashed potato was awesome. The portion of the protein seemed to be smaller than it used to be.

Skunk - Beef Burger OK Dec 30, 2013
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches

Oasis Square, Ara Damansara has a lovely ambiance and I sometimes pop by for a lunch meal when I'm not in a hurry to go back to the office.

The Burger Factory has recently opened it's 3rd outlet at this place on December 2013 with Kota Kemuning being it's first outlet followed by their 2nd at SS15, Subang Jaya. I've never tried any of their burgers before and so I took the opportunity one lunch time to bring my colleagues along to taste their burgers.

When I was there that fateful day, I chose the Beef Burger called Skunk.

It was a burger with Grilled Beef Patty, Blue Cheese, Caramelized Onion, Gherkin and some Caesar dressings.
I initially thought that the Gherkin would be the culprit in ruining the taste of the burger for me since I don't fancy pickles but the crunchiness and freshness of the gherkin was nice. Couldn't taste much of the Caramelized Onion but the big disappointment came from the patty and the blue cheese. If you've eaten Blue Cheese before, you know that it has a very forceful taste and odor to it (I guess that's why they called this burger Skunk) which I don't mind as I like cheese but it wasn't evenly spread throughout the patty and my first bite was already a mouthful of blue cheese which didn't sit well with my tongue. After the first few bites of the patty, I find that the blue cheese was mostly concentrated at the left front side of the patty while the middle slightly right side of the patty had a better spread of the blue cheese that provided the just right taste while the back right side of the patty had little to none at all.

Aside from the uneven blue cheese combo with the beef patty, the other disappointing factor was the beef patty being flaky. It just crumbles way too easily. Other than that, overall, the taste of the burger was okay.

Service-wise, seems like a mess and sluggish but I guess because the staff were still new and adapting to it. Towards the end of my meal which is nearing the end of peak lunch hour, I've witnessed a number of empty seats with uncleared platters for as long as 10 minutes and a number of patrons that had walked in, sat down and not being greeted with the menu after 3-5 minutes, walked off. It's a shame that they lost some customers that way instead of unavailable seats.

Carbonara Fettuccine Smile Dec 30, 2013
Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops

Whenever I step into a restaurant that serves pasta, I usually can't resist ordering a plate of Carbonara to compare with my favorite at Pizza Uno, Bandar Utama.
The next best that I've tasted was recommended by a friend of mine which is on par with my favorite and that is Dave's Bistro Bar & Grill at 1 Utama.

Although the setting at this restaurant is far from what a fine dining restaurant would be, I was quite surprise with the quality of the food that they churned out effortlessly despite the lunch crowd filling the limited seats to the brim and the busy atmosphere with a long line at the cashier waiting for their order to be taken.

The Carbonara Fettuccine was certainly up to the level of my utmost satisfaction and is just slightly below my favorite in terms of taste. The Carbonara sauce was portioned adequately with the Fettuccine and the flavoring was rich and creamy but not overboard. The beef bacon blended in well and provided a nice mixture in it. The pastry added into the dish was a smart move to provide a little crunch to the meal but would've been better if they were bits of crouton instead of a strip.

Overall, a heavenly tasting pasta dish and the Cappuccino that I ordered for after-meal enhance my appreciation for this outlet further.
