Chicken Meal  Smile Aug 10, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

Xin Jia Xiang restaurant is a shop which sells Hainanese boneless chicken rice. Since chicken rice is their speciality, mum and I ordered their roast chicken rice set and steamed chicken rice set. Both sets are only RM 4.50 which I considered cheap with the huge amount of chicken being given.

The chilli sauce and chopped ginger sauce to eat with the rice

The fragrant rice and soup
The rice is really fragrant and tasty to be eaten on its own. The soup is also good because it is clear with very little oil and is tasty with radish taste.

Roast chicken set
The roast chicken is very tender and smooth. I especially like the chicken's skin as it is slightly crispy but not oily. Initially I thought the chicken is boneless but I was wrong, it came with bones. Didn't live up to its Hainanese boneless chicken rice but I still enjoy the chicken very much....Aside from the cucumber slices, preserved vegetables were also given. This is my first time eating chicken rice with preserved vegetables and the taste is on the sweet side instead of the salty and sour taste. Interesting.

Steamed chicken set

The steamed chicken is also smooth and tender. It is nicer to eat t he chicken with the soy sauce as the chicken is quite tasteless when eaten on its own. Just like the roast chicken set, preserved vegetables and cucumbers were given to accompany the steamed chicken.

Hello Panda Biscuits Smile Aug 10, 2012

Categories : Japanese

One of my favorite snacks are the Meiji's Hello Panda biscuits range. The products are manufactured by Meiji Seika (S) Pte Ltd in Singapore. Actually Hello Panda biscuit is a Japanese biscuit which has been around since 1979 in Japan.

I always get the biscuits from Shojikiya as they are selling at the cheapest price as compared to other places. They are selling them at RM 2.50 but there are places like Watson's selling them at RM 3.50.

There are four varieties (milk filling, double chocolate, chocolate and strawberry filling) of Panda biscuits available in the Shojikiya shops and I got the following two flavors which are my favourite among the 4 to eat.

Milk filling Panda Biscuits

The ingredients used in producing the biscuits include wheat flour, emulsifier, vegetable shortening, sugar, malt syrup, lactose, whole milk powder, skim milk powder, raising agent, salt, artificial sugar, milk flavorings, and seasonings such as vegetable protein and yoghurt powder.

Nice blue shiny packaging containing the biscuits

The cute panda printed and panda head shaped biscuits
As can be seen on the picture, the giant panda on the biscuits are doing various activities such as football, fencing and archery.

The yummy creamy milk filling in the biscuit

The crispy biscuits consisted of a small hollow shortbread layer, filled with with the yummy creamy milk cream.

Double chocolate flavor

I like the double chocolate bicuits very well. Not only the filling inside the biscuit is chocolate filling, the bicuit surounding the inside is also in chocolate flavor and thus, its' name double chocolate.

Vege Sharky Soup Smile Aug 06, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung | Seafood

Always pass by this sharks fin stall in OUG pasar malam and I finally gave a try to it. It is a good way of getting a quick fix for sharks fin soup without burning a hole in your pocket because the bowl of sharks fin soup is only RM 4.50.A must-try soup if you are not into having the original shark fin soup in a high class restaurant. Besides, the sharks fin is actually made from flour, not the real sharks fin. So, it is save to eat for those who are into saving sharks...lol....

A packet of wine and vinegar were given to enhance the flavour of the soup. The black black substance of the soup is actually the wine and vinegar. After mixing them together, I get a good thick, warm and starchy soup.

Other than the fake sharks fin, another ingredient in the soup were real crab meats. The amount of crab meats given were decent for its price.

Can you spot the sharks fin strand on the spoon? Looks thick to me. And it tasted like soo hoon @ tung fun.

Mixed Pork Soup  Smile Aug 03, 2012
Categories : Food court | Seafood

A few days ago, I went to DDP food court to have lunch. I shared with mum the following mixed pork soup from the stall which sells Mixed Pork Soup and Kampung Chicken Rice. This stall is located next to the Pan Mee stall and both stalls are actually operated by the same people. We waited quite long for the soup to arrived but it is worth it because the soup is delicious.

This big bowl of mixed pork soup is only priced at RM 7.00 which includes two plain rice. The soup contains generous amount of pork meat and innards like pig heart, stomach, tongue and pork liver. I like the chewy texture of the innards but I didn't like the pork meat because the meat is on the tough side. The soup is cooked using black pepper and added with tomatoes and pickled mustards as well as asam boi. I really enjoyed the soup because of the sourness provided by the asam boi and pickled mustards.

White Tom Yum Smile Aug 02, 2012
Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Noodles

This Thai food stall operates in DDP Food Court in the morning until at night. Today, I bought their white tom yum as my lunch. I was charged RM 5.50.

A plate of white rice (RM 0.50)

At just RM 0.50, the plate of white rice being given is really big. Nowadays, I seldom find 50 cents rice being given at this big portion.

White Seafood Tom Yum soup (RM 5.00)

This bowl of white tom yum is consisted of ingredients such as fish cake slices, abalone mushroom slices, carrot slices and crab stick. Other than that, 2 slices of fish meat and two pieces of prawns were also given. They are stingy in giving out the prawns and fish but generous in giving out other ingredients like the fish cake and abalone mushrooms. I guess this is because prawns and fish are expensive while the rest of the ingredients are cheaper. For those who love spicy food, I think they will not fancy white tom yum as the soup is not spicy at all. But I liked the soup very much because it is sour, which is very appetizing for me. Each spoonful of rice was accompanied by the soup. I almost finished up all the soup. Yummy yummy...........
