I had a slice of Triple Decker Cheese Cake from Coffee Bean yesterday. One slice of it cost me RM 10.05 (included 6 % government tax). For those who are interested in getting the whole cake, one cake is RM 85.

The cake is super sinful as it is topped with crushed Oreo cookies and consisted of three layers of different cheese type, made up of cream cheese, mocha and oreo cheese. I get to taste 3 different flavors in one bite. The oreo taste in the oreo layer doesn't have storng oreo taste, just a hint of it. My favourite is the cream cheese layer as the cheese flavor is strong and rich. Not only the cheese layers are good but the crumb layer supporting the cake is also good with buttery taste. It is dense and moist. I think cheese cakes lovers out there will fall in love with this cake....yummy yummy......

The cake looks so tempting and appetizing........

Besides the cheesecake, I also had the above Esprit Raspberry sparkling water from Coffee Bean at RM 7.50. I quite like this carbonated refreshing drink because it is not really sweet and filled with raspberry and apple flavor. It tastes better when served cold. The drink is consisted of contains 5 % fruit juice from concentrates of raspberry (4 %) and apple juice (1 %). Other ingredients in this drink included carbonated water, sugar, citric acid, natural flavors, natural color and preservatives. This bottle of drink is actually made in Australia by Bickford's Australia PTY LTD.

Curry Combo Smile Jul 28, 2012   (Related Review)

Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung | Desserts

After browsing thru the menu of Hui Lau Shan, Ester and I only managed to find one non-dessert dish which is the following Signature Curry Combo set. Thus, we ordered it because we scared we won't be full by just eating desserts for lunch.

Signature Curry Combo set (RM 7.90)

The ingredients in this curry combo are cuttlefish, tofu pok and fishballs. They are not stingy in giving the ingredients as the ingredients given were quite many. I find it rather interesting because instead of potatoes, they used white radish. I actually prefer white radish more than potatoes because the radish is sweet and able to absorb the curry more. And, it is healthier too as the carb amount is lower in radish than in potatoes. The curry gravy is not bad too. It is not oily and not spicy at all and is rich in flavour. I think they put in a lot of coconut milk to cook the curry.

Steam Fish Head Smile Jul 27, 2012

Categories : Food court | Porridge

Fatty Frog is a stall at Restaurant Ninety Nine in Taman OUG which sells a variety of porridge, steamed fish head, kung pou frog leg and meat. Among the types of porridge being sold are the Fish Porridge With Century Egg, Century Egg With Pork Porridge, Frog Meat Porridge and mussel porridge. If I am not wrong, the price of the porridge starts from RM 7. Mum and I ordered their chopped garlic and ginger steamed fish head. The fish is of "Soong" fish type. Oh ya, please go there early if you don't want to wait for table because there were already many people over there even as early as 5.30pm.

Chopped garlic and ginger steamed fish head (RM 24)

Although we ordered a small portion of the fish head, but the fish head arrived is actually quite huge. We had a hard time finishing up the fish head. But we enjoyed the dish very much as the fish was fresh and the flesh was smooth and sweet because the fish was steamed just right, not over steamed. I especially love the flesh of the cheek. It is the best part of the fish. Luckily, the fish doesn't have the fishy or mud taste. I like the accompanying chopped garlic and ginger which gives the fish slightly spicy in taste but it does get spicier with each bite. The gravy is also quite good, not really salty. In my opinion, the fish is charged at a reasonable price because the fish head is actually quite big.

Whole Pork Bone Steamboat  Smile Jul 27, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | Seafood

Coco Steamboat just opened its' branch in Old Klang Road on 23rd July 2012. Its' main branch is located along a row of office shop-lots in Taman Bukit Hijau (nearby Taynton View). The environment of the restaurant is not bad. There is a mini pond and fountain with beautiful big Japanese carp fishes in it. The choices of soup base available there include their signature whole pork bone base (have to add additional RM 17.90), clear soup base and porridge base (only available on weekends). Though pricey, mum and I decided to try their whole pork base steamboat. Yeah, mum was nagging about the price throughout the meal but I enjoyed the steamboat very much.

The big clay pot is used in keeping the whole bone pork steamboat......

Chilli sauce......I don't really liked it because it is too spicy.

Ingredients for one steamboat set (RM 15.80/pax)

I didn't manage to capture all ingredients because mum already throw in some of the ingredients into the pot. Some of the ingredients include vegetables, tofu, fish balls, fish noodles, fish slice, a prawn, dumpling and crabstick.

Yee Mee and Egg for the steamboat

We ordered an additional plate of mushroom meat balls (RM 8.90).

I quite like the meat balls. There were chuncks of mushrooms mixed with the meat of the meatball. Besides, the meat balls were also very fragrant.......yummy yummy.........

We also ordered a plate of sliced pork (RM 11.90).

The slice pork were thinly sliced, making them to cook very fast. Each slice of the pork has an oil attached to them, which I don't really fancy. But the meat part is good. Very tender. Just remember don't overcooked them or the meat will become tough to eat. Probably just cooked them in the boiling soup for about 30 seconds and they are ready to be eaten.

They actually used a big sized pork bone to brew the soup. Can you see the bone in the middle? Mum and I ate the meat attached to the bone and we found that the bone might be off roasted pork because it has some roasted flavor in it......Other ingredients used in brewing the soup include black pepper, chilli, yam and milk. The chilli and black pepper in it makes the soup slightly hot but at an acceptable level. I love the idea of adding milk in it making the soup creamier and tastier. Just like other normal steamboats, the soup gets better after cooking all the ingredients in it. I had 3 bowls of the soup to satisfy my cravings for steamboat soup...The refill for the soup is free....thumbs up...hehe

The total damage for the meal including 2 plain water (RM 1.60) = RM 56.10

Beef Noodle Smile Jul 25, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles

Today, mum went to Lai Foong coffee shop to buy a packet of beef noodle soup for me. Lai Foong is actually one of the well known places for beef noodles. It has been around for more than 10 years. I remember passing by this coffee shop everyday during my schooling days. Lai Foong is my favourite place for beef noodles.

The chilli sauce

The chilli sauce is quite spicy. As you can see, there are lots of chilli seeds in it. Don't eat the chilli on its own, remember to eat together with the noodles to reduce the spiciness.

Beef mee hoon soup (RM 8.00)

The beef noodle is very big in portion. Lots of mee hoon were given. The ingredients that I chose were lean meat slices, tripe and tendon. The meat is sliced thinly making it very tender and easy to eat. My favourite is the tendon, very chewy texture....I liked the soup very much because it is very appetizing due to the sourness from the ham choy (pickled vegetable). I finished up all the soup...yummy yummy.....

Chewy beef tendon

I am not sure what it is called in english but in chinese is called "ngau pat yip"
