Pumpkin Custard and Fried Shishamo
I tried the Shogun Japanese Buffet a few times and I have to say that it was just average. The buffet do have some dishes worth a mention but on the whole, it was a bit not authentic as they serve not only Japanese dishes but those from chinese cuisine as well.
One of the desserts, the Pumpkin Custard sounds really interesting and I have to say taste-wise, it was a letdown. The custard was a pale yellow color making it look not too appetizing. It tastes bland with no trace of sweetness but saved by the pumpkin flesh surrounding it. They tried to make it look interesting by making it look like a half boiled egg served on a spoon.
The Fried Shishamo on the other hand is good. Fish roe were one of my favourite food and I guess no matter how it is cooked, it will retain some of the taste. Here it is fried to quite a dry state making the skin of the fish quite crunchy. It could be a bit better if they didn't overfry it. Luckily the roe still taste alright.
