Whenever I visited friends or relatives in Singapore, I get requests to get them Krispy Kreme doughnuts from KL. For some reason, there is no Krispy Kreme doughnut outlet down south.

There are only 3 outlets in KL although this is one of the most famous doughnuts in the U.S. The outlet in Berjaya Times Square has very spacious seats and there is a 2nd level which has more seating available.

My personal favourite is the Original Glazed flavour. Main reason is because some of the other flavours are too sweet for me. Although the original glazed means it is glazed with sugar, I still find it acceptable. Krispy Kreme doughnuts has better texture for me compared to some of the other competitor brands. And I find the range is simpler here as they do not need to have so much gimmicks due to their doughnut being already very good. Their doughnut is smaller in size and each bite really makes me want to taste more. The dough is always soft and fresh. Satisfaction guaranteed.

Smoothie Heaven Smile Jul 16, 2012

Cookies n Cream

Cookies n Cream

Today Boost Juice did a promotion of giving out one free juice of any flavour to anyone with "WAI" or "MEE" in their name. As luck would have it, I am one of them. So I head to the branch in Subang Parade to redeem mine. The juice bar was a small one and there were only 2 staff working but they work really quick and I could see that their station is clean. The service was good even though I was redeeming a free drink.

I chose the Cookies and Cream smoothie juice and boy, was it heaven. It was a combination of vanilla yogurt, cookie crumbs, ice and low fat milk. The drink was smooth due to the milk and yogurt and everything is blended to make this smoothie. My only qualm is the cookie crumbs were too little or fully blended to bits that I could hardly taste them. But I would recommend it as it taste really nice.

Thinking of having a cuppa of your favourite coffee or tea? Look no further than this quaint little cafe located on level 6 of Pavillion Mall.

It was teatime when I visited this cafe so I did not try out their food which I believe is quite good too.

We had drinks and dessert here and imagine my delight when they served our coffee and tea with really creative coffee and tea art.

We also ordered vanilla orange cake and tofu cheesecakes, both totally healthy options for dessert lovers.

Yuen Buffet Steamboat has a reputation as the bastion of seafood buffet steamboat restaurant. Despite offering only hotpot with 2 soup types i.e. chicken broth and spicy Tom Yam, there is a satisfying conclusion that this establishment knows just how to maintain the quality of their food with its no-frills delivery. A huge improvement is the comfortable setting at their new location, judging from the satisfied looking patrons despite being packed at peak dinner time. Not to mention that I really hated going to the Sunway area as it feels so unsafe! I happily paid the RM2 parking fee for the ample parking space and security.  In fact, the new location is easily accessible case in point: it took me only 15 minutes to reach the restaurant from Subang Jaya via the Western Digital access road from Federal Highway.

Their wide variety fresh seafood ingredients are unmatched with other buffet steamboat wannabes and their secret must be simply the high turnaround of customers which practically ensured the buffet spread is regularly replenished. It says on their website that they had been operating from their previous location in Sunway since 2005 but a foodie friend told me they were already operating at another nearby location in Sunway since 1999!

Price has gone up since they moved but it is still the most competitive in town at RM29.90/pax (inclusive of Chinese tea), and also considering that they have not revised their price since 2011. And what about their famous chicken wings?? I can say they still taste as good as I remember it and yes, they still finish in seconds! Quick tip: Try going on a weekday and you don't have to be disappointed by losing out to those who are quicker on their feet on a full stomach  lol

The buffet spread is over 100+ ingredients (I lost count at 110!). I recalled there were only 2-3 types of dipping sauces previously but now there are 10 types. I love the Yuen's specialty sauce and the new garlic mint sauce. Caution though, the Freakin' Hot Sauce is no joke! [Tips: add a dash of sweet sauce to counter the acidity and you'll appreciate the sauce more].
I also noticed they added another pre-cooked food, deep-fried crab or pomfret. I love the batter and you can almost eat it whole! Also, for you sweet tooth out there, look for the delicious longan soya pudding' in the desert cabinet, another new item. Yep, you read it right, desert cabinet! The food display area is so much nicer and well-spaced (see the photos).

So many steamboat places has closed down but Yuen is still getting better and better! There’s no doubt that Yuen will continue to become the hottest reservation in town for a long time to come.

Abalone with Goose Web Smile Aug 17, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

For one of my family dinners, we went to Ah Yat to try their signature abalone dishes. The restaurant is tastefully done with nice ambience. The highlight of the evening came with abalone and stewed goose web (similar to chicken feet but belonging to webbed feet from geese or duck). The abalone and goose web both were drenched in abalone sauce which was very rich and slightly thick, just the right consistency so that the sauce clings to the ingredients nicely. The abalone is super tender which made it really great to savour. The abalone ia the size of a golf ball so it wasn't too big but really made up for it in taste.

The goose web served had been stewed thoroughly and the flesh is easily breakable. Everyone on the table enjoyed the dish which is simple but unforgettable.
