Vanilla Butterscotch Cake

Vanilla Butterscotch Cake

I am not a fan for cream cakes, the type which leaves you bloated. But the Vanilla Butterscotch Cake is really different. It is a vanilla cake with butterscotch cream and topped with almonds and pistachio. The cake texture is really rich with vanilla flavour and dense. I like the butterscotch cream which is light but creamy and feels really buttery. The nuts added another dimension with their crunchiness and flavour. This is a cake that I do not mind returning for.

Cafe Latte

Cafe Latte

Pacific Coffee is a coffee chain from Hong Kong which is underrated. I really like their coffee which has a nice strong blend. Their Latte has just the right consistency of frothed milk and the espresso still retains its charateristic bitterness which few can achieve. The aromatic blend works so well that I do not need any sugar to enjoy my cuppa. And the brew is just bitter enough without being too strong. Good for any day.

Salt Baked Eight Treasure Duck Smile Aug 12, 2012

I really cannot recommend enough of the Salt Baked Eight Treasure Duck. The duck has to be baked 10 hours ahead to you have to order a day in advance. The duck is deboned and stuffed with glutinous rice, wolfberries, mushrooms, shrimps, BBQ pork and over 10 other ingredients. Then it is wrapped in foil then covered in salt before baking. The presentation itself is also interesting. The salt forms a layer of hard crusted brown piece that looks something like a durian. This layer has to be knocked open with a hammer to get the duck.

The result is duck meat so tender that it breaks without much efforts. The flavours were so awesome that it takes a while for you to take it all in, the combination of the herbs and rich flavour from the mushrooms, shrimps all absorbed in the rice which made the glutinous texture that much more palatable. Although salt was used, it wasn't dry at all and every ingredient did its part to give its own unique flavour.

The portion is enough for 4-6 pax on its own and costs RM98. A highly recommended dish.

Hot Milk Tea Smile Aug 07, 2012   (Related Review)

The Milk Tea at this restaurant is quite good. First, the tea has an intense taste which was just the right consistency. And the milk gave the tea good texture and makes it even smoother. This actually tasted like hainanese tea with that rich tea undertone. I can always appreciate a good cup of hot steaming milky tea which brings out the flavour and completes my meal.

Roasted Milk Tea Smile Aug 06, 2012

I am a real fan of those bubble tea houses and wanted to try Ochado's version of Roasted Milk Tea. I was pleasantly surprised with their version which was really full of tea flavours. The tea flavour were stronger compared to the other famous brand. And I could taste the roasted texture of the tea. I had mine with zero sugar as I preferred less sweetness to bring out the tea taste. Their version is also smoother with their special blend of imported tea. This is my new favourite tea drink.
