Beef Ball Noodle Smile Aug 10, 2012

Dry noodle with beef ball soup

Dry noodle with beef ball soup

Whenever I crave for some good old beef noodles, I would head to Soong Kee for some because this restaurant has been around since before the country's Independence. I guess they perfected the recipe for beef noodles because today they are still going strong and have moved from a side walk shop into a shoplot.

I always ordered the dry noodles which comes with minced beef on the noodles and served with a couple of strands of green vegetables for garnishing. And of course not forgetting the beef balls which comes with soup. Their noodles must be handmade because their texture is springy and does not have the chemical aftertaste of some. Of course the minced beef is what gives the noodle extra taste with its special marinate which is full of spices. And I really love the beef balls here which are also very springy and it is a real pleasure chewing into each piece with the meat well marinated to give just the right flavour and super delicious. Some food are worth visiting again and again.

Chor Ladda Smile Aug 07, 2012

This Thai restaurant certainly earns points from me from its decor to its attention to delivering good thai food which follows the traditional recipes closely. One of their signature dishes is the appetizer Chor Ladda. The dish really looks so good in presentation that it was hard to start eating it. It is flower shaped dumplings in tints of blue sprinkled with peanuts. The fillings were minced chicken which tasted salty-sweet and when mixed with the chopped peanuts filling, it was such a fantastic combination. The texture of the dumpling skin together with the minced meat was so chewy that I can't decide whether it was the meat or the peanuts or the skin that was better. The skin which are made from sago pearls are dyed blue and pinched into lovely flower shapes. Everything just complements together so well. Truly an unforgettable appetizer that I will want to return to try again.

I am not a fan of cream puffs as I find them a bit too heavy for me. But since this shop came highly recommended, I decided to give it a try. I tried two flavours, Classic and Coffee.

The puffs are soft with the pastry holding its shape even after a day. The Classic flavour is the original one with custard cream filling. The cream is very smooth and it was just the right consistency. I could feel the cream melting in my mouth. Mixed with the pastry, it was a fantastic combination.

The Coffee flavour has just a hint of coffee taste but I would have preferred a stronger taste of coffee as I am a coffee lover. But it was the same smooth consistency and it was creamy without being heavy. Really great recipe.

Truly Malaysian Smile Aug 06, 2012   (Related Review)

One dish that I frequently order here is the Truly Malaysian. It comes with fragrant rice and a piece of chicken cooked in their special sweet and sour sauce. There is a serving of green mango salad and papadum for garnishing.

The chicken tastes very tender and I really like their sauce with a hint of citrus and at the same time it was balanced by the sweet taste. This made the dish really appetizing and goes really well with the fragrant rice. And the salad completes the meal giving it a refreshing taste.

Granny's cake Smile Aug 04, 2012

When it comes to having my cake and eating it, I always preferred those that are not too sweet. So when I saw the Granny's Cake here, my first thought was about how sweet it will be. It looks really heavenly with butterscotch cream cheese as the topping as well as between the layers of the cake. The cake did not disappoint. It tasted super buttery, felt so soft and fluffy and the best thing was it was not sweet and the texture so so moist.

I was told that this cake is one of the more popular ones here to try. The cafe was really cozy and everything looks homebaked and rich in taste and texture. A place that you do not mind lingering.
