Dining at Tenjin really was a pleasant experience. The decor befits a hotel's image with great interior finishes and spacious seating. I also like the service here which is prompt and attentive. One of the dishes I ordered is their Assorted Nigirisushi, with salmon roe, ebi (shrimp), maguro (tuna), unagi (eel) and hamachi (yellowtail fish). The sushi here is definitely in a class of their own. The hand formed sushi uses only the freshest meats and ingredients and the sweet natural taste is intoxicating. I especially like the salmon roe with each roe popping when chewed and the sensation of hundreds of exploding roe and the salty taste that follows which when combined with the vinegar flavoured rice is sensational. The other cuts are just as commendable like the hamachi sushi which has a buttery taste so I felt like I was having a dessert. Highly recommended.

Up close so yummy

The Crispy Roasted Pork Knuckle here needs no introduction as it is one of the signature dish. And it really lived up to its reputation. The skin is roasted to a deep brown and so crispy that it crackles when we bite on it. The meat inside is surprisingly tender and it was really full of a strong salty taste that is appealing. Served with sauted potatoes and mushroom, it was even better when we drizzled the brown sauce that comes with it. The sauce was peppery sweet and really enhanced my dining experience further.

Seaweed Popcorn  Smile Aug 17, 2012   (Related Review)

Seaweed Popcorn

Seaweed Popcorn

Big Bucket - RM15

Big Bucket - RM15

Planet Popcorn is the latest popcorn brand to join the bandwagon in Malaysia's popcorn craze. We are talking about better quality popcorn than those you find in supermarkets. These are bigger in size and there are no popcorn seeds to deal with which I like. One of the flavours that I find very addictive is the Seaweed flavour. I thought seaweed is everyone's favourite but apparently I heard comments from friends who doesn't take to the taste of the seaweed popcorn well. So it's a love or hate thing I guess. For me, it was really an enjoyable experience chewing each kernel as I find the seaweed flakes coating it tasting mildly sweet with a nice seaweed tinge which somehow just made me want to eat even more. There was also a buttery tone to the popcorn taste and the kernels are crunchy and crispy but taste slightly less sharp unlike Garrett's popcorn.

There are about 6 or 7 outlets around klang valley. The setup at each outlet is quite simple with only a small shoplot or kiosk. The one at Berjaya Times Square has staff that are attentive and friendly. I ordered my popcorn and got it within 10 minutes. The bucket and small packs keeps the popcorn from getting soft for longer periods with their airtight packing.

Roasted Duck Smile Aug 17, 2012

This stall has been around for ages since as long as 30 years back. Recently I went to get some roast duck from the stall for a festival. They only have orders for take away being a roadside stall. The roast duck here evidently still maintained its crispy crackling skin which tasted really super savoury with both a smoky flavour as well as slightly salty taste. Its flesh was super juicy and tender too and almost needing no effort at all to pull the flesh, it just breaks easily and juices oozing out with every bite. The taste is really further enhanced with their special sweet sauce that has a tangy flavour. Highly recommended and worth paying a premium price for it.

Mixed Pork Noodle Soup

Mixed Pork Noodle Soup

I can't say enough good things about the stall selling the Mixed Pork Noodle Soup. The soup is boiled with pork liver which turns out tasting strongly of the sharp liver taste which is an acquired taste but which I like. It is both slightly salty yet has a natural sweetness as well. The noodle is served with pork balls and pork liver with generously garnished spring onions and fried shallots, all of which gave it a fresh and smoky taste. There are also vegetables in the soup to complement the ingredients.

The pork balls must have been quite well kneaded because they were a delight to chew. Likewise for the pork liver pieces which is well cooked to the right consistency. The noodles were just alright but with the other ingredients, it did not have to do much to give this dish any other extras. Worth trying and price is just RM4.50 a bowl.
