Yummmmmy Bacon!!! Smile May 25, 2012

Queue line outside a restaurant often indicates that the place serves great food. So we joined the queue and took our order even before stepping inside. After a 10 minutes wait, we were lead into our booth table by very attentive staff. I love how they work very fast, perhaps most of them are from Thailand since it’s a Thai franchise.

Food and drink were served very quickly and the food looked almost the same as illustrated on the menu. We ordered a supreme set that has pork, beef, chicken, bacon and some seafood like 4 prawns and slices of squid with lots of cabbages and some udon noodles.

We placed the two pieces of lard on the stove and start grilling. You can just put the slices of un-marinated meat on the stove or you can dip them in the special sauce given before grilling them. My mom absolutely loves the sauce that she mixed with garlic and sliced chilies flakes. Perhaps you already knew, but I have to remind again that if your sauce has been dipped with raw meat before, please do not eat them with cooked meat to avoid food poisoning. tongue

Along with the set, we can choose two bowls of garlic rice with additional RM1 or white rice with no extra charges. The garlic rice is quite damp and actually plain white rice is good enough for us. We ordered extra plate of udon and bacon because the bacon is sooooo good!!! The bacon makes the beef, pork and chicken slices pale when compared to its saltiness and flavour when grilled to perfection.

The lemongrass fried chicken is super yummy too although two of the drumsticks are undercook, so I grilled them slightly on the stove. It’s the first time I eat chicken wings that had been chopped half before frying. Perfect, no fingers are needed to eat it that way.

We ordered jasmine tea (unlimited refills) and mango smoothies to go with the meal and the drinks are awesome too. MSG level is medium.

Not so Seoul.. Cry May 13, 2012

The quality of food in this place has degraded. My last visit to this place was in 2010 and I remembered that it’s better than how it’s like now. The floor is greasy and the air is stuffy. The buffet place is space limited and people are in risk of running into each other when getting their food. On the bright side, most of the servers are friendly and I’m sorry that my review will be full of negativity.

Some of the saucers at the condiments corner are sticky and full of fingerprints. The condiment spoons are sticky and dirty. Same for the spoons at the ais kacang corner. While I understand that condiments and desserts are probably will be always sticky and sugary but at least the servers can wipe them clean or replace the spoons after some time. The grill plate can be replaced, when it gets too black to continue grilling.

I love their salad corner just because they have the freshest and crispiest sliced onions. I love onions. I grilled them, I put them in soup and most of the time I just ate them raw. So I paid RM35 to eat lots of sliced onions! tongue

One of their curry marinated stingrays is really not fresh. When grilling, I can smell its awful fishy smell. Really turn off by it so I did not take their prawns or crabs also. But I saw many people taking their crabs, I guess it’s okay then.

The veges corner is quite disappointing too. I've been to buffet places that charges lower with more vegetable choices.

I like how they slice their fishballs items half. It will make cooking faster, cooling faster and you can eat them in a pop. They have lots of marinated chicken and beef, about 8-10 choices but the hard part is by the time I reached my table, I’ve forgotten which one is garlic chicken, teriyaki chicken or bulgogi beef =_= and I can’t tell you which one is the tastiest. I think at least 2 of them tasted okay for me, probably it’s garlic chicken.
Meat Bar

I enjoyed making my own ice kacang although I have to say that they should just serve whole peanuts instead of finely crushed ones. Finely crushed peanuts are just not ice kacang material. The gula Melaka is quite watery and the ice is too coarsely blended. The servers did not change the almost empty ice creams tubs and everyone ended eating the most unpopular ice cream which is honey dew.

MSG level is super high. I had to drink 3 cups of green tea at home.

First of all, the pork stench in this restaurant is horrible. It’s in my hair, bag and dress. The smell lingers on even after I’ve left the place. Honestly they should do something about the ventilation of the place, it’s like dining in a greasy butchery. And although their decoration is quite nice and we get a private room (that you gotta share with another couple which is quite awkward) , but the stench spoils everything. sad

Few slices of un-marinated pork belly was placed on the grill. At first, we are a bit worried as the pork might not taste good since it’s not marinated with anything except for slices of onions placed on top of it. But actually, it tasted good enough just to be eaten on it’s own! Or dipped with a brownish salty dip that I think is just salt or brown sugar with soy sauce. Just with a slice of pork and a mouthful of fluffy white rice. Yummy! smile Sorry no picture of cooked meat, too greasy for phone.

We are not expert in Korean grilled food so we kinda played with our food. After the server cut the pork slices and left, we applied some red sauce that tasted like fermented red bean curd (lam yu) taken from a plate of spring onions on the pork and briefly re-grilled them. It tasted yummier!

The bachan selected is quite mediocre, we didn’t even ask for re-fills. We send away a plate of clams because we are not a fan of shellfish and it kinda looked raw! In fact non of its bachan dishes tasted okay for me, I guess I’m really not into Korean food.tongue

I would order another plate of pork but no menu was given to us because we booked this dinner via some group buy sites. I hate it when group buy customers are treated differently than their full paying customers. When I left, the floor is so greasy I almost slipped. The place is actually on second floor, next to Ampang Point above CIMB Bank.

Thirst factor is quite high tongue

Beefed and Lambed Out Smile May 13, 2012

Lamb Shank is tender and flavourful; the gravy is very nice if eaten with freshly baked crusty bread like baguette. The portion is huge, with mash potatoes and a bed of grilled vegetables. RM36.

Fish & Chips is one of the safest items you can order from any restaurant. Nothing bad or surprisingly nice to comment about that dish. RM25.

The Beefed Out pizza that we shared is quite yummy. With beef pepperoni, beef bacon and marinated beef slices and onions and bell peppers. RM 28, 11 inch.

I did not try their pasta but according to my friends who ordered carbonara and salmon alfredo, it’s yum. Great sauce and fresh ingredients.

The Char Grilled chicken RM22 that I order is quite disappointing. Some parts of the thigh tasted fine but some parts are over grilled, and it’s like eating cardboard. The grilled vegetables are okay.

Apart from western fares, they have local food and northern Indian food too, but we didn’t order any of those items tonight.

The mocktail that I ordered, is very delicious, with huge chunks of soursop. Their watermelon mojito tasted weird though. They have some RM10 for selective cocktails on-going promotion if you were there before 7pm.

Chocolate lava cake is not lava enough tongue They have local desserts like ice kacang too. The service is great and fast; they have tons of servers walking around ready to serve you. I was given a feedback card to fill up at the end of our dinner.

Best eaten when steamed! Smile May 12, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Dim sum

One of our new favorite place to have dim sum where the food is nice and service is swift, friendly and the price is quite affordable. The decor is nice too!

One of the must order is Custard Cream Bao that can get very messy to eat because of its runny yummy salted egg yolk cream custard that will flow out the moment you took a bite. Sooo good! The pau is soft and velvety, you can't even peel off the skin because it's too delicate. tongue RM6.8 for 3.

We also liked the Har Kau and Siew Mai. Har Kau has no parsley inside! Yay! While most of the dimsum shop in Ipoh has the pesky parsley, I'm so pleased when I took my first bite of the parsley-less har kau. Each har kau has 2-3 succulent fresh al-dente sweet prawns. Perfect! The siew mai is awesome too, with thin dim sum skin and freshest mince pork and whole prawns in them.

Glutinous rice chicken (LohMaiKai) is okay, fragrant with rice wine and generous toppings. It's just lacking the steaming hot touch when served (maybe it turned cold while I snap photos) and lack of Kg. Koh's Chili Sauce that is perfect pairing dipping sauce for LohMaiKai. RM6.8.

We also liked the fish paste beancurd mai, which is basically fishballs wrapped in a barely there beancurd wrap. Fresh and not artificially tasting.

Not everything is steamed in steam room. tongue There's some fried dimsum like prawn rolls and fried beancurd. We ordered prawn and mango roll once, the presentation is nice, however I can't taste much mango. Perhaps we should just stick to steamed stuff. RM 8.8 a plate

No dimsum meal is complete without yummy char siew bao. These tiny 3 bao folds is in perfect small size and not too tummy filling. Delish! RM6.8 for 3 baos.

Order hot chinese tea to go with your dimsum. Water is a no-no because a glass is RM2! tongue Not much of MSG used in cooking, awesome!
