Secret Recipe has launched a meatless dining concept outlet called,"Secret Recipe Beyond Veggie" in Tropicana City Mall. It's their first outlet followed by their newly opened second branch at Publika. As one of the largest Malaysia's cakes and cafe chain, renowned for its award-winning cheesecakes and fusion culinary delights are proud to present their very first Secret Recipe Beyond Veggie concept offering diners an intriguing meatless dining experience.

The interior concept of Secret Recipe Beyond Veggie has a garden feel with wooden chairs and tables compared to their normal Secret Recipe cafe.

Upon our arrival, we were briefed about the concept of the Secret Recipe Beyond Veggie and what are dishes that we were to expect through out the food review. We had Rainbow Veggie Roll, Mushroom Bruschetta and Top Hats Pie Tee.

Top Hats Pie Tee (RM9.90)
My favorite was the Top Hats Pie Tee which is a popular Malaysian nyonya snack. Beyond Veggie's version is a refreshing recipe with diced green apple, seedless tomato and shredded water chestnut served in a crispy 'top hat' shell. Recommended if you prefer something taste refreshing with crisp at the same time!

Rainbow Veggie Roll (RM7.90)
Next up is the Rainbow Veggie Roll. It is a homemade dish and is layered with shaved carrots, cabbage, red cabbage, lettuce and topped with pumpkin floss. It's good to eat with the roasted sesame sauce and honey mustard which is served on the side.

Mushroom on Toasted Bruschetta (RM 9.90)
Slice oyster mushroom cooked with homemade cheese sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese served on lightly toasted bread, no one could resist this unless you dislike cheese! That's all for the appetizer, next up are some of the ala carte dishes.

My conclusion: If you are in a vegetarian diet then Secret Recipe Beyond Veggie is the place to go with plenty of food variety. Price wise, it might be slight expensive but at least it's healthy for those who are on a strict diet.

Mexican Degustation Menu OK Jun 18, 2013
Categories : Mexican | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches

We get to try out some of their new Mexican Degustation Menu. Previously, I did a food review for Frontera for their Christmas menu and also I have joined the Inferno Habanero Hot Wing eating challenge.

Top-Shelf Guacamole
I normally don't eat the guacamole, not a fan, but just loved this one. This Top-Shelf Guacamole is served with tortilla sombrero chips. The guacamole is an avocado based sauce filled with diced tomatoes and onions.

Jalapeno Crab Cakes
Next we had the Jalapeno Crab Cakes. This was one of my favorite appetizers served that evening. The fresh crabmeat, picked over, patted dry, mixed with panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and minced jalapeno chiles. The texture is a little rough but I just can't get enough of it.

Jicama Salad
This Jicama Salad reminds me of Thai Mango Salad or Kerabu Manga Thai but more of a radish version of kerabu minus the mango and added a few cuts of oranges, avocado, bell pepper, water chestnut, mint leaves, paprika and cayenne pepper. The perfect salad to increase our appetite for the next dish.

Chicken Enchiladas
For the main, we had the Chicken Enchiladas. Boneless chicken meat which is wrapped inside the corn tortillas and covered with cheese best to eat together with the Mexican rice and baked beans.

Baja-style Fish Tacos
We also had the Baja-style Fish Tacos which is originated in Baja California, Mexico. The fish is deep fried and is served with tacos, lime and cream sauce.

Prawn Chimichanga
Last main, the Prawn Chimichanga. It is served along side with the baked beans, Mexican rice and salad just like the Chicken Enchiladas and the prawns wrapped inside the tortilla topped with cheese sauce was definitely one of the most fantastic Mexican dish I had.

Watermelon Agua Fresca
All those great Mexican food to be washed down with a glass of icy cool Watermelon Agua Fresca. I had this same drink during the Christmas menu review but it was slightly better back then.

Impossible Chocolate Flan
As for desserts, we had the Impossible Chocolate Flan which is made of chocolate cake at the bottom and flan on top, topped with toasted walnuts. For those who love the taste of condensed milk, this is pretty much a dessert made for you.

This Mexican Degustation Menu sells at RM 60++ and only can be ordered or made reservation ahead in time. Some of the dishes are available on ala carte and this set is only applicable for group of 10 pax and above.

Burgertory Food Review Smile May 28, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Café | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches

Last month I went over to Burgertory at SS15 for a food review thanks to Foodirector. It's actually not hard to find the place although it's on the first floor, it's located right above Guardian which one row before Maybank.

Shrooming Bull (RM15.50 - ala carte)

Firstly, let's take a look at the beef burger. The Shrooming Bull burger above filled with Cheddar mild cheese, button mushrooms and 100% grass fed beef. As you can see in the image above, it's actually the Burgertory Fry Combo set that comes with fries, onion rings, Mozzarella cheese stick and their refillable soft drink for an additional of RM9.00.

Mascarpone Curry & Cheese (RM15.00 - ala carte)

This Mascarpone Curry and Cheese burger comes with mild Cheddar cheese, fried egg, onion rings, mascarpone curry sauce & 100% premium pork. The curry sauce is not like those normal curry we used to have but it taste more like Japanese curry type that we can order in Japanese restaurant.

Swine Bacon & Cheese (RM16.00 - ala carte)

One of my favorite, the Swine Bacon and Cheese burger. Comes with mild Cheddar cheese, pork bacon & 100% premium pork. The pork is nicely seasoned and it's juicy. You wouldn't order this if you doesn't have the love for bacon and one thing for sure, you won't regret ordering this tasty burger!

Bacon & Cheese Plus+ (RM24.00 - ala carte

Ingredients are same as the Swine Bacon and Cheese burger but you get to have double pork patty and more cheese! If you just came out from a jungle, this will satisfy your pork craving and if you just want a normal dinner... then you better skip this as this might be too filling for some people.

Burgertory Treasure (RM13.00 - ala carte)

One of the highlights that evening, the Burgertory Treasure. Comes with mild Cheddar cheese & crispy pork lard with 100% premium pork... yes you read it right, it's crispy pork lard!!! All I can say is after having this, you probably might want to think of starting your exercise routine again the next day. It's simply delicious but at the same time satisfying.

No doubt they have one of the best pork burger in town. Just that they need to improve on the buns. Love the free soft drinks refill smile

I've been wanted to try Aunt Christina's Sarawak Laksa since a very long time after reading some of the food review blog post and my Sarawakian friends in KL who actually recommended this place one of the best Sarawak Laksa to be found in KL area.

Located at Lucky Garden in Bangsar, this little stall takes a part of Nam Chuan Coffeeshop. They have other choices such as economy rice, Penang prawn mee, pan mee and of course the Sarawak Laksa.

Laksa Sarawak (Small RM6.50 / Big RM7.00)

A bowl of Sarawak Laksa to cure my cravings. On top of the bee hoon, you can find the 2 fresh prawns, some chicken meat strips, bean sprouts, omelette strips and coriander leaves. In my opinion, the laksa gravy was pretty rich and the flavour was almost similar to the one I had back in Kuching a few months back but the bean sprouts was a little too much that every single bite I had to chew the bean sprout more than the noodle itself. The prawn was too raw as well, the laksa gravy wasn't hot enough to make it less raw. It was too pricy too. I guess maybe the rental in Bangsar cost more than places like PJ or the owner purposely increase the price just because some famous celebrity went to eat at the stall before and it was on the newspapers.

My typical cup of hot Milo while Daniel having his hot Teh-C.

Apart from the Sarawak Laksa, Aunt Christina also sells rendang, black pepper chicken and pig stomach which I heard was quite good as well.

UFO Desserts & Drinks has opened a branch at Bandar Manjalara and the owner invited us, the bloggers to head over there for a review in the evening. I've been to their very first branch in SS2 a few times and now the place is quite packed from time to time especially during weekends. So lets take a look at what they offering in this branch.

Entering UFO, the interior was just like the one in SS2 branch - clean and comfortable for a dessert and drinks cafe for the customers. They have quite a simple looking visual on the side of the wall for the UFO sets and their hot delights as well. Besides desserts, they also offer drinks and snacks as well. Below are some of the item that we have tried during the food tasting session.

Honey Peach Yoghurt Smoothie with Rainbow Jelly topping (RM 5.50) on the right and Winter Melon Tea with Grass Jelly (RM 4) on the left. It is recommended to have less sugar for either one of the drinks unless you prefer to have really sweet taste in your drinks. I enjoy drinking the winter melon tea for it's really cooling especially on a hot Malaysia weather.

On the left is the Pearl Milk Tea (RM 4.50) and on the right is the Aiyu Lemon Green Tea (RM 4.50). I really like the taste of the Aiyu Lemon Green Tea because it's really refreshing with the lemon taste and I'm quite sure a lot of ladies will like this drink as well.

If you prefer having shaved ice dessert, the QQ ball series is most recommended for you with any toppings that you like. 1 topping for RM4.50 while 3 toppings for RM6.00.

It was my very first time trying their UFO Lemon Aiyu with Aiyu Jelly and Yoghurt Popping Balls (RM 4.50). The aiyu jelly and yogurt popping balls are the selling point for this dessert!

Overall, UFO is my second choice after Snowflake if I want to get my Taiwanese desserts fixed! lol
