I've not been to Taipei before but traveling that very significant capital city of Taiwan to experience it's culture, food and scenery has always been one of my dream. I believe that the city itself is a food paradise to those who admire Chinese snacks and cuisine all over the world.

Cut a long story short, my girlfriend and I went to Fun Taipei Teacafe during one of our weekend together to have lunch. She always been a big fan of the dumplings there which she claimed to be almost similar to the one she used to have back in Kuching. I have not been there before, since it's nearby my place so why not I give it a try.

For sharing: Vegetarian Dumpling 5pcs
I've forgotten about the price for this but I remember saying that it's more expensive that those normal meat dumplings which I can get from the food court. The texture of the dumpling is very soft and the vegetable filling inside indeed is tasty. Somehow I still prefer to have meat dumplings. I admit that I am a human carnivore! Hahaha

My gf's lunch: Spicy Minced Meat Noodle RM5.50
This is good but nothing much to brag about.

My lunch: Minced Meat Rice Set RM9.50
Pretty good since they provide lotus soup as well which is my childhood favorite. The variety of food is enough to cater the my daily lunch portion.

Overall, food are pretty decent but for sure it's not one of the affordable 'makan' place in my list. Anyway, they open until very late. The latest I ever saw was until 1am whenever my gf and I was doing our work in McDonald. That's my point of view for now. What do you think? Have you tried Fun Taipei Teacafe before? Do share some of your feedback with me. Till then......

I am sure most of you who are familiar with Kota Damansara area knows about The Strand by Encorp Berhad. It is situated near to where I stay and I know that there's a lot of cafe and eatery places to be found. One of them is the Cross-Legged cafe which is located at the first floor of Jalan PJU 5/21, The Strand.

Macaroni Cream Chicken (new item)
The Macaroni Cream Chicken is one of the new item at Cross-Legged which is not in the menu. For those who prefer to have a change in their pasta can always try the macaroni instead of the much common spaghetti dishes.

Steamed Egg (new item)
The Steamed Egg is three quarter boil eggs with vege like mushroom and carrots to bring out the taste and fried bread crust on the side. It reminds me of Chawanmushi but without any meat in it.

Vege Quiche and Smoked Salmon Quiche (RM5/each)
The Vege Quiche was pretty good as it has more vegetable flavor while the Smoked Salmon Quiche has a very light smoked salmon taste in it. Both quiche are moist and not too dry but I would probably go for the Vege Quiche.

Lemongrass Chicken Pasta (RM15)
Next up is the Lemongrass Chicken Pasta which are probably my favorite dish of all. Linguine is used for this dish instead of spaghetti to give a different taste of paste and I find it to be a little chewy which is good cause I don't like my pasta to be too soft. The lemongrass and the sauce blend in very well with the chicken meat. Most recommended!

French Toast (RM10)
The French Toast is always a good choice to have for breakfast or tea time. It's topped with sausages and diced tomatoes with syrup and a few drops of lemon for a slight citrusy taste.

Overall, the price on some of the food are quite reasonable especially on the main and appetizer but a little too expensive on the desserts. It's a good place to hang out with friends and for those who prefer to have a light taste on their food. There's still a lot of room for improvement and that's why as a blogger, we play a very important role in giving feedback to the owner and chef.

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum | Porridge | Private Party

Early in the morning, M girlfriend and I were somehow craving for dim sum for breakfast but after we both have moved to Kota Damansara, we have no idea where to find any dim sum place around.

So we decided to have our dim sum breakfast at Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong (Kota Damansara branch).

This is what we have ordered. It's a lot just for breakfast actually.

Steamed Spareribs RM4.50. Gf's favorite but it was just okay.

Har Gaw (Prawn Dumpling) RM4.50/3pcs. The prawn is quite fresh but the skin is a little too thick though.

Tasty Lo Mai Kai RM4.50/ My favorite, wasn't the best but edible.

BBQ Pork Bun RM4.00/2pcs. I don't normally go for BBQ pork bun but this was pretty good and delicious.

Siu Mai RM4.50/3pcs. Typical siu mai, the size wasn't too small but I think I had bigger ones in Jalan Ipoh.

Shrimp Rice Roll RM4.80/plate. Not that good but at least can satisfy my cravings.

Overall, it was a good breakfast. Although it might be slightly pricier than those normal coffee shops but it's more comfortable to eat in Jin Xuan since it's more chilling with air condition and it looks cleaner too.

Baker Dave at Sri Hartamas OK Jun 18, 2013

Baker Dave is the very first cafe and bakery outlet opened at Plaza Damas 3, right opposite of Hartamas Shopping Center and is linked with an overhead bridge. Started off from taking cake orders from home, Baker Dave now offers a value lifestyle proposition of great variety and quality food at affordable prices. The uncompromising quality of food and desserts using quality ingredients, coupled with moderate pricing, compromising of a loyal base of food and cake lovers.

Their specialty? They can customize cakes for any occasion from simple continental cakes to fancy personalised designs. So if you are thinking what kind of cake to get for me for my upcoming birthday (which is on October 11), don't worry, they can customize the cake into any shape or design that you want (preferably a camera DSLR design for me tongue).

Anyway, the interior of Baker Dave is actually quite simple with warm lighting just like any other local bakery shop we can easily be found.

They also offer breakfast, lunch menu, coffee and tea. On request basis, there will be kids activities whereby the kids can do cupcakes decoration for only RM9.90 which include 2 cupcakes, 1 Vitagen drink, sprinkles and cream for the cupcakes.

English Breakfast (RM19.90)
The English Breakfast made up of two sunny side up eggs, two slices of toast with butter and jam, chicken sausages, beef bacons, shiitake mushrooms and also comes with a cup of hot black coffee.

If you prefer to have a heavy breakfast or brunch instead, they do allow their customer to have the set lunch. We got to try two of the lunch set offered by Baker Dave on that day.

First up was the Pasta Marinara which is topped with minced chicken along side with the home-made baked chicken meatballs and broccoli just for RM16.90 and comes with one slice of the cake of the day and a glass of fresh juice. I understand that the chicken meatballs were baked instead of the conventional way of cooking (fry) it but somehow it feels a little dry for my liking.

Next one is the Tumeric Rice (RM16.90) with a sunny side up egg, curry chicken, meatloaf, carrots and peas. The curry chicken was good and flavorful and meatloaf was quite tender. This set also came with one slice of the cake of the day and a glass of fresh juice which I prefer this over the gassy soft drinks. By the way, they claimed that they do not use any MSG in preparing all the dishes.

Ultimate Chocolate RM9.90. The name didn't go wrong with this cake at all. This cake is layered with chocolate fudge, chocolate mousse and chocolate cake.

Apple Crumble Cheesecake RM8.90. One of the best apple crumble cheesecake I had despite the not so appealing look of the cake but I was being told that they spent more time concentrating and working more towards the taste instead of the appearance of their cakes which is lacking in many bakery nowadays.

After having the sweet cakes, there's absolutely no reason why not to sip a glass of hot coffee to balance up our tastebud. If you are somewhere around Sri Hartamas, you can check out Baker Dave for a quick morning meal or tea break.

I have always been a pork burger enthusiast and not too long ago, there's a newly opened Wallop Pork Burger Restaurant at Chow Yang area in SS2 Petaling Jaya.

Wallop Burger is located at Chow Yang in SS2, the same row with the newly renovated Ho Ho Sek Food Court and the same place where the Thursday pasar malam takes place.

It takes more than 10 minutes for them to bring our order to our table. Service is a bit slow but at least they send it directly to our table.

Our 'healthy' Wallop Pork Burgers.

This is the Mamma Wallop (RM6.50), the single patty grilled to mouth watering perfection. It is served with lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayonnaise.

My order - the Papa Wallop (RM9.00). It's the same with the Mama Wallop but it has an additional of a grilled pork patty.

My Verdict: Service was a bit slow since they have very few staff working. It's good to see them promoting healthy pork burger but it tasted something like Ninja Joe. Their interior is simple but I dislike the sharp edges of the table. Their warm light bulbs were too glaring and makes the place a little too warm even at night. Next door is blasting some 'lala' song and they also blast some mainstream songs at the same time makes Wallop Pork Burger restaurant as not a suitable place for chit chat or business discussion. It would be better if they can make the price lower as I can find better and cheaper food around Chow Yang. That's my humble point of view.
