Curry Mee Smile Jul 27, 2012

Don't underestimate these two old women selling noodles by the roadside!

It's amazing how they still work so hard despite their age.

This delicious looking curry noodle comes with many pieces of squid, 'tau fu pok', cubes of pig blood and a big spoonful of chilli paste. Even though the hot soup is normal, adding the super spicy chilli paste amps up the flavour. Careful with how much you add though! For someone like me who can't take spicy food, it was too much. The squid was full of flavour and the whole bowl in general tasted great (except it was too spicy for me).

Big prawns OK Jul 27, 2012

The famous char koay teow in Penang! Also famous for charging high prices and for having a stuck up attitude.

Erk.. Why is a man cooking Sister's CKT? tongue

Look at the size of the prawn they include in the noodle! It's so huge, much bigger than the prawns I normally see in char koay teow. Fresh and crunchy too. Apart from that though, I didn't find anything special about their noodles that would upkeep such a name. I don't mind paying more for good special food but this is a 1-time-try thing.

Coconut jelly Smile Jul 27, 2012

This is no ordinary coconut seller! Joez Coconut sells Coconut Shake, Pandan Coconut, Coconut Products and most interestingly, Coconut Jelly which is their star product.

Looks like a normal coconut from outside but..

It's filled with jelly! According to the website, it's made from pasteurized fresh coconut juice extracted from young fruits and passed through a 'secret' process that turns the liquid into semi solid form of silky smooth jelly. The jelly is sweet and tastes of coconut (obviously..). It's so soft and smooth, even better than agar-agar! Very refreshing when eaten cold.

Laksaaa Smile Jul 27, 2012

You cannot deny that laksa is one of the famous delicacies in Penang. On my way to Kek Lok Si, we spotted a huge crowd around this stall (indicator that you should try it). Customers may sit at the food court across but only at specific seats to not interrupt the business of the others.

Seeing tables ordering 8-15 bowls of laksa, we finally understood why as we filled our tummies with it. The soup was murky with mackerel and loads of prawn paste. Underneath was the usual laksa ingredients like onions and cucumber. Noodles were perfect and the whole bowl tasted amazing combined. It was not too spicy too.
