black coffee Smile Oct 24, 2012

Categories : Western variety

Recently Pacific Coffee Company celebrated their 20th anniversary in Malaysia and I was told by a colleague of mine that they are giving out free coffee to the public for the celebration. I went to a store with my colleague and we got a cup of black coffee each. The coffee was bold and had hints of nutty aroma to it. We were told that it was their special anniversary blend that was served that day.

butter popcorn Smile Oct 24, 2012

I love the fact that Garretts make their popcorn fresh and it would be a waste not to finish the packet of popcorn within the single day as popcorn cannot maintain its crisp fluffiness. Butter popcorn is something uncommon in Malaysia as the common variant is usually with caramel. The butter popcorn from Garrett has the distinctive saltiness of butter but the texture of the popcorn is kinda weird. It felt like biting into polystyrene or eating with retainers in your mouth for those with experience. There was not distinctive crunch when you bite into the butter popcorn.

caramel popcorn Smile Oct 24, 2012

The first time I had Garrett's was when I was in United States. I was feeling kind of homesick and the only popcorn Americans enjoy is slightly salted or butter. I could not find any caramel popcorn's even in cinemas. Imagine my joy when I found out that Garrett sells caramel popcorn I immediately bought a packet to try. It was still warm when I pop a fistful into my mouth. The popcorn was fluffy and crisp and the whole popcorn is covered with thick caramel syrup instead of those found in Malaysian cinemas where it is partially covered. I'm glad to say Garrett's Malaysia taste exactly the same as those I got America and I hope I don't get caught smuggling these sweet goodies into the cinema.

pumkin + sunflower seeds bread Smile Oct 24, 2012

A few weeks back, the loaf was selling this at RM2.99 for members and I got it for lunch. I do not really remember the name of the bread but it has something to do with pumpkin and sunflower seeds. The pumpkin essence is mixed with a slight tinge of cinnamon and mixed into the flour. The sunflower seeds were baked until crunchy and sprinkled onto the pastry before being served. Apart from that, there are also sunflower seeds in the bread as well making it blend well with the pumpkin flavor.

almond leaf Smile Oct 24, 2012

The almond leaf from The loaf used to be one of my favourite pastries from this bakery. I said used to because they changed the recipe recently and it bombed big time. The new recipe made the almond leaf smaller flatter and changed the taste completely. The old almond leaf used to be crunchy and airy but the new recipe is just a piece of flat stone hard biscuit. Apart from that, the layer of syrup is too much for me to handle. I miss the old almond leaf as there was a layer of sugar coating but the new one has only a layer of syrup which is harden.
