Tea Time OK Apr 10, 2014

The Restaurant

The Restaurant

The cafe is very popular and is usually quite crowded. Besides the outlet, there is also various outlets all over Malaysia. The cafe sells Hong Kong style cafe food.

Five Spice Abalone Mushroom (RM6.80)
Quite crispy and nice.

Lotus Seed Red Bean Sherbet (RM8.20)
The drink is very thick and creamy.

Egg in Boiled Almond Tea (RM4.90)
A bit disappointed in this drink, as it just a raw egg in lukewarm almond tea. The almond tea is lacking in flavour too.

Boiled Coke with Ginger (Hot) (RM4.40)
This is the worst of all, as it is just warm coke with a few slices of ginger. I once have a glass of coke that has boiled with lots of shredded ginger, it is so flavourful that the ginger has soaked the coke flavour.

Overall it is a place for relax but not a place for good food.

Disappointing meal OK Aug 22, 2016

This restaurant was a branch of the well known IT Roo Cafe. It is located in the middle of a row of shophouses. One could not miss its signage which was written "Best Chicken Chop In Town".

Beware of the peanuts and ice water which were served on the table, as they were chargeable at RM0.30++ for per glass of water and RM2++ for per plate of peanuts. Service was slow, and the staffs had problems understanding english. As we were a big group with 17 persons, we asked for the individual billing, yet was refused in order to simplify job for the staffs themselves. Yet the female staff who was taking orders, just continue to take her own sweet time. Half the table had received food while the last few guys still had not have orders taken.

IT ROO Chicken Chop (RM16.50++)

Chicken thigh meat, coated with bread crumbs and deep fried, served with potato, homemade coleslaw and choice of sauces - Mushroom or Black Pepper

I had it with mushroom sauce which was a bad choice as it tasted like made from packet powder bought from supermarket. The serving was quite small. Far from the huge serving as reported online. The meat was oozing with oil as I sliced it through. The potato tasted raw.

Sirap Bandung with Gula Melaka (RM4.90++)

The drink looked quite colorful in 3 colors when served. It was a combination made of rose syrup, milk and gula melaka syrup.

Tasted not bad, but the glass was full of ices. In fact more than half the glass.

Overall the food was a tab overrated. Service was bad. One really had to very patient while dining in here.

Disappointing Meal Cry Aug 22, 2016

The outlet was part of a rather well chain in Malaysia which was known for its chinese style soups.

Do take note that the Guava with Mandarin Peels (RM 3.90++) and wet tissue on the table are chargeable.

Souper Tang Signature Soup 汤师爷招牌参鸡汤 (RM39.90++/ 2 pax)

Requested for the soup to be boiling hot, yet it was served barely warm. Asked to send back. It was served slightly hotter the second time although we suspected that the bowl was microwaved.

The meat looked quite red, with lots of bruised markings around. How to eat?

Pan Fried Eggplant with Scallop in XO Sauce
(RM18.90++)

It had a strong alcohol smell when served. It was a very soupy dish, different from what was shown on menu which had looked rather dry.

Simmered Chinese Spinach with Wolfberry (RM15.90++)

Looked not bad, but was rather bland in taste.

Claypot Beancurd with Sliced Dory Fish and Pickled Olive (RM26.90++)

The fish was dry and tough. Quite disappointing dish.

Fresh Seafood for Lunch OK Jun 11, 2014
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

The restaurant is a rather rundown place, with a barely there signage. It is located in a small road, off from the main road.

hard liquor bottles

hard liquor bottles

Inside the restaurant, the place is interestingly decorated with lots of umbrellas covering the ceiling and empty hard liquor bottles sitting on shelves by the walls. There is no menu, and one orders through recommendation by the staff.

The seafood is steamed and served in a double boiler pot, with the juice flowing to the bottom pot. The seafood consists of crab, prawns and Lala shellfish. Tastes fresh and juicy with just simply cooking.

The juicy soup left in the bottom pot is then used to make soup by adding vegetables. It tastes quite light and flavourful.

Also have Egg Beancurd which turns out to be simple fried egg on plain sliced tofu, with a dash of soya sauce on top. Quite disappointed with this dish. The egg is simply overcooked.

When billing, I notice that the order list is very cute with pictures.

But I am surprised to be charged so much for food with RM3 for hot water since we bring our own tea leaves.  Overall the food is average but quite expensive. As the restaurant is located in forest area, one cannot help but wonders where the fresh seafood comes from. Service is slow here even when there is only a couple of tables occupied. Remember to take a visit to the toilet. Not that the toilet is nice (it is ugly), but you will pass by vegetable patches on the way.

Expensive local food Cry Apr 10, 2014

Categories : Malaysian variety | Café | Noodles | Halal | Nasi Lemak

At the airport, there is not choices for a meal. We decide to stop here for a quick meal before boarding the plane. As Old Town White Coffee has a lot of outlets all over Malaysia, I am supposed the food should be not bad, but how wrong am I. Especially when there no real kitchen at this outlet. The food dishes are mostly warm up in the microwave ovens.

Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun (RM11.30)
The dish is quite plain and seem quite expensive for such a dish.

Rendang Chicken Rice (RM15.30)
Another overpriced dish. The chicken is rather dry here.

Kaya Butter Toast (RM5.30)
As there is no toast sets sold at this outlet, I have to order them separately. The toast is crispy but lacking of freshness and soft texture inside.

White Coffee (RM4.90/ Hot), Enrich Chocolate (RM5.50/ Hot)
The fancy named Enrich Chocolate turns out to be Milo. Overall the drinks are average and are quite hot.

Overall the items on the menu are highly overpriced. The dishes are disappointing.
