Coconut ice-cream has always been the talk when we mentioned about chatuchak weekend market. Almost all who visit will be hooked on by the refreshing and tasty ice cream. Now, we no longer have to take a plane to satisfy our craving. Sangkaya, a Malaysian founded ice cream brand specialized in coconut ice cream is here to save us!

I find came across Sangkaya in mount Austin, their first outlet in Johor. They have many several outlets in Malaysia. Mount Austin outlet has a very simple decoration and lesser crowd due to the problem of accessibility. Thus, it was not long before they expand their second Johor outlet in Jalan Dhoby, which is minutes walk from the JB city square.

Although mount austin was slightly less accessible and less fancy looking, it was spacious and quiet. A place suitable for relaxing.

In my recent visit to the Jalan Dhoby outlet, I was admired by the pretty decoration and shopfront. The entire café was fully occupied and we have to wait for 15 mins to get a little corner to eat.

There is a standing table outside the café to satisfy smokers who want to have dessert while taking a puff.

Entering the café makes you entered seeing so many coconuts within the refrigerator, waiting for you to consume it.

Pretty Decoration

There are new items being launched (Coconut Shake). The process is very easy. You order that the order point and collect it at the collection point. Beside the collection point, you will see the boxes of topping for you to add to your ice cream. New Flavour Of Coconut ShakeOrder PointCollection Point

Choice of Toppings

Upon ordering the signature, you will be entitled to add 3 toppings to it. For me, I have chosen to add sweet corn, cornflakes and kidney beans. The topping helps to provide texture to the ice cream. The coconut ice cream was really creamy and refreshing. It feels really shiok consuming it.

The coconut shake was another big hit for us. It was cooling and creamy .You can even taste bits of coconut meats within.

To brave through the hot weather or to satisfy your coconut ice cream craving, drop by and have a try.

FIRST CATS CAFE IN JB OK May 19, 2016

Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Restaurant

Café-hopping has been the talk of town for quite a few months now and cafes of all kinds and themes have been sprouting up in Singapore. This café craze has finally reach JB. If you find it too boring to just have high tea, why not visit the cat café for a brand new experience - an experience to enjoy cuddling the furry creatures while drinking high tea.

The cats café is the first cat café to be opened in Johor Bahru. It carries the theme of “Cats At Their Sanctuary” where you can join playing with café while having meal in the café. This cat café was situated in the residential area as it was converted from a mansion to a café.

Upon entering the place, all the staffs greet you with super friendly smile and guide you to your seat. Furthermore, they will explain some cat rules in the café to you so that you can have fun in the café without hurting any cats unintentionally.Rules For the Cafe

The cats are all fluffy and cute. Love the fact that this cat cafe actually has rules to make sure customers are protected from cat scratches and also the safety of our bags.

The atmosphere in the cafe is super cosy and spacious to allow cats and visitors to roam around.

This cat café also sell food for the customers to fill their tummy. We order waffle and pizza to fill our tummy and play with the cats while waiting. The menu and even the cushion covers were also in cute cats pictures to go with the theme. Cute Menu

Time to play with these fluffy creatures~

Time to enjoy the food~

Cats Signature Waffle (RM 15.90) – To be honest, it was not to my liking due to the artificial taste of the strawberry syrup and chocolate syrup used. Furthermore, I find the cake soft but lag the fluffiness which makes it very “gelat” after some bites. The waffle tends to be very dry towards the end. However, I do appreciate the effort by the owner to make this waffle very pretty and instagram worthy.

Hawaiian Pizza (RM 19.90) - It taste fairly decent with thin crust and generous serving of ham and pineapple slices. Even the toilet was cute.

To conclude, I would not go to this cats café for the food. But will definitely re-visit this place for the cute companion (cats) and the cosy environment to be in lol

Fan of Jay Chou, will surely seen the beautiful café scene in the music video for Hand-written Past 《手写的从前》where Jay chou sits in a wooden café with full-height glass panel. With the scene in mind, the Eco Palladium Café recreates it and has attracted large volume of crowd to visit this café.

The little glass house is located within Eco Spring Show Village where the showroom of the Eco World development was situated. It was very near to where 22 Korean Fried Chicken Factory and M2escape, about 10 mins driving journey from the previous café I went.

This is definitely a very instagrammable place even though it is still fairly inaccessible.

Menu is simple with just coffee and cakes. The plus point is that it was very pretty.

Within the café, it can only fit about 5 people. But the atmosphere was cool and modern. You can easily spot visitors trying their best to recreate the Jay Chou MV scene. Jay Chou MV Scene

Apart from the pretty glass house, the surround was pretty as well. And the wall of the café was also decorated with 3D wall art for patrons to enjoy and take photo with. I did not stay long as the crispy cotton candy from lis gelato (situated beside palladium café, read more) was out of stock and will only stock up in the night. So I decided to visit hours later, nearing to the sun set to take night view of this stunning café.

when the sun was about to set

We are back from our errands. The sun is about to set. But it still takes some time so we sat down for their Christmas special brew (chilled coffee soda witha hint of mint and zest of orange. We also order the mint chocolate brownie to go along with it.

Chilled Coffee Soda with hinge of mint and orange: The coffee was a very nice experience for us. As it taste light yet carbonated. The mint and orange taste was minimal.

Mint Chocolate Brownie: Chocolate brownie with a layer of mint cream was topped on the cake. The brownie tends to be dry and hard while the mint cream tends to be overly sweet. However, the mixture of the two combinations helps to neutralize the sweetness of the cream. Furthermore, the coffee soda, being bitter in nature helps to prevents the cake
from being gelat.

This cake & drink combination (RM18.90)when the sun set. It was still incredibly beautiful

In Eco Spring Show Village, carnivals are held periodically. We are lucky to be visit when there is a Christmas carnival happening. The event

FIRST KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN IN JB Smile May 19, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches | Noodles

In recent years, Korean Fried Chicken, also known as another "KFC" has been gaining popularity due to the K-wave entering Asia. There are many different recipes for Korean Chicken but all carry the same characteristic -crunchier and less greasy than the usual
fried chicken. This is due to the chicken being fried twice. There are sweet or spicy or garlic version of it available in the market.

It is very common to find Korean Fried chicken outlet in Singapore but in malaysia?? I have not heard about its existence in Johor Bahru , Malaysia. Upon hearing the opening of the 22 Korean Fried chicken, I am dismay and over-joyed. With the power of my puppy-eyes and glib tongue, I managed to persuade my BF to cross the border with me for it lol .....and of course for other cafes nearby. haha

With the aim to conquer 22 Korean Fried Chicken, M2escape,Palladium Café and Lis Gelato which are situated in the same area – Mount Austin, I have successfully completed my mission and went even more places. I went to the Cats Café and Zoom Park too. Do read the individual post for more details.

22 Korean Fried Chicken is the first Korean Fried Chicken open in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru. The interior design of this restaurant forms a space which fills it with the industrial style concept which is in contrast with the foods being served. Inside the restaurant there are also shelves selling Korean products which allows patrons to buy these products after dining here. However it also imposed patrons with a challenge of finding a seat for dining due to its limited space.

We went at 1.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed with no indoor seat except maybe 2 benches outdoor. The environment was so noisy that we literally need to shout across the table to talk to each other. We proceed to the ordering counter to order our food before securing seats as we believe that by the time we obtain our food, we should be able to find seats. Yay, Success!!Since it is a Korean Fried Chicken Shop, of course we decided that the best selection was fried chicken. Each Chicken Wing Set (4pcs) Set comprises of two chicken wing (cut into 4 pieces) , wedges as well as a drink (choice of lime water or orange juice). There are 5 flavours (Crispy, Garlic, Gangjeong (Sweet), Bul Dak (Spicy), Hot BBQ). Since bf is not a spicy eater, we wanted to try the garlic and gangjeong flavour. Unlike Four Fingers in singapore, 22 Korean Fried Chicken does not allow us to mix the chicken flavours. This is why we are 'forced' to order two sets.

After 15 mins of wait, the paging system finally display our numbers and our food is finally here - Garlic (Left) & Gangjeong (Right).

We would expect the chicken to be hot or at least warm. But apparently it was not. Sauce that was spread on the chicken skin was tad little. Furthermore, the meat was a dry with no marination. It would taste much better if the juiciness of the meat was retained and more
sauce was applied. Would appreciate if more drink choices was made available.

If I was to choose which flavor I like better, that would be Garlic flavour as the taste was
richer.

Paik' Pan is a popular korean eatery serving mouth watering teokbokki (korean rice cakes) and Dakgalbi (Korean spicy chicken stew). It was a new addition to City Square, Johor.
Paik’ Pan allows you to choose from their menu different set meal. The difference between the sets was mainly due to the different marination and meat choice. It was their requirement to order minimum two sets. You can mix your order. We have order Spicy Dakgalbi Pan (Chicken) With Cheese (RM 38.80) and Teriyaki dakgalbi Pan (Chicken) (RM 30.80). We mixed both flavour together I feel that it mixed very well. The staff will serve you with the ingredients on the table before pouring in to stir fly for you. All you have to do is to sit down and wait till they tell you it’s done.

Really love the food mixture. The teriyaki chicken was tender and sweet while the spicy dakgalbai was sweet spicy. Portion was big enough for two person sharing. If not enough, you can even add more topping (Ramen, Tteokbokki, cheese, Udon and sweet potato).

It was pretty cheap in my sense because in Singapore, the same will cost 3 times more due to currency difference.
