old charm in a new setting... OK Aug 08, 2014

Coliseum Cafe is one of the oldest British Colonial era steakhouses in Malaysia located in KL. Now they have a branch in Petaling Jaya keeping with the same menu & style but with a slightly more modern / airy outlook. Decor wise it keeps to the faux wooden tables and chairs with white tablecloth. Rather close together so it can get cramped and noisy when their packed.
The service is typical of the original in KL whereby sometimes they are attentive & quick however at times slow & non responsive. Think that is part of their style. In the KL branch the servers were infamous for having some air about them.
When it comes to food their steaks are quite decent. Their top draw has to be the sizzling steaks. Served in front of you while it pops and boils after the sauce has been poured on the hotplate. They will tie a bib on you before serving so that the sauce doesn't splash on your clothes. They also have nice half roasted chicken. Don't forget to try their oxtail soup which is pretty awesome. If you are not up for Western this place does serve good Hainanese dishes like the chicken chop, fried nice or noodles and even toast.
Wouldn't call this the best steakhouse in Malaysia however it is a nice place to visit every now and then for the old Brit charm.

average briyani... OK Aug 08, 2014

Used to hear that Tetra has the best briyani around. Sadly when I finally tried the place the briyani is just so so. Maybe their quality has dropped over the years. Average flavour, decent raita, the chicken or mutton choice is just so so as is the dalcha.
They do have a decent selection of vegetarian dishes which were fresh and tasty. Examples being squash, spinach, potatoes & even tauhu. Can't speak much of the other dishes as we didn't try them.
Environment wise its a typical Indian restaurant layout. Reasonably clean with average service. Think there are many other better choices nearby.

decent briyani... OK Aug 08, 2014

This place has a lot of hype through Facebook and Twitter. However overall I would give it just an average rating. They serve decent briyani and banana leaf rice. Wished there was more meat though in the briyani. Price wise on par with most places serving similar dishes. They do serve a mean lassi. Rich and creamy.
Service was good and friendly. Environment clean and inviting. Worth a visit.

yummy noodles... OK Aug 08, 2014

Great place to find good hokkien mee in PJ. Cooked with charcoal burners and great wok hei. They get packed during dinner time but service is fast so turnaround is quick. They also have good pork soup and fish head noodle soup.
Within the restaurant itself there are other stalls serving up good satay, nasi lemak, grill fish and lobak. Nothing to shout about but still tasty.

average at best... OK Aug 08, 2014

Categories : Malaysian variety | Malay | Stall / Warung | Nasi Lemak

This place seems to have lost its touch. It used to be the defacto nasi lemak joint but sadly no more. Now the nasi lemak is average at best. Great selection of sides but the rice lacks coconut flavour and the sambal just so so. Price wise reasonable being in KL however they need to find their flavours again or soon will just be forgotten.
