Dim sum and then some, Smile Feb 11, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum | Porridge | Private Party

Once again the sister and myself managed to convince my mother to bring us to our favourite Dim Sum joint. Which took a little while because whenever we ate there we often times over indulge and end up leaving feeling super stuffed. But in a good way.

This time my first order was the braised pork ribs with black dace. This was AMAAAAZING! The flavours was strong from the garlic, dace and also all the magical seasoning that goes into this dish. The pork was tender and super well marinated. We had to order a second basket of this cause one just wasn't enough since I could easily finish one myself.

My sister however went for this xiao long baos. Although they weren't as good as the ones we get from Dragon-I, these were delicious too. The meat was tender and each little dumpling was filled with enough soup for us to be happily slurping at it once it was cool enough. Add a little vinegar and ginger then this will be a perfect mouthful.

For my mother, she ordered this giant fish balls which were actually better than I thought. Usually I never go for fish balls of any kind cause they're just too pasty for me. However these were nicely juicy & crunchy which was exactly what my mother likes.

We also got an order of Lao Sa Pao which was MINDBLOWING. The first bite and you get a rush of the custardy inside which was super creamy plus has a strong salted-egg-yolk taste. HEAVENLY. Never can we get the same kind anywhere else.

Beef~ Smile Feb 02, 2016

A good friend recently got a job at Tujo and happily invited us girls there for dinner. that night I was just happy to be out of the house since it was the first day of the long weekend.

So all dressed up that's where we headed to and was mildly surprised by the interior - slightly mismatched but fun which I assume is their goal as it matches their 'fun' motto. However it wasn't really my taste especially the blinking coloured lights that were right above my table, giving me quite the headache.

Upon recommendation I tried the beef bourguignon and was pleasantly surprised. I've tried this dish at other restaurants & was disappointed as it was mainly too sweet, then I have even attempted to cook it myself too but still could not get the flavour that I was hoping for. Tujo however have achieved that perfect balance where the stew was not overly sweet nor too salty.

Although most of the beef were really tender, there were still a few pieces which were slightly on the drier side which I ignored. Also there are some rather fatty bits as well, but I presume that is also needed to give extra depth of flavour to the stew.

My dish came with a side of garlic bread which were quite bad honestly. It was not toasted well enough and to me seemed rather stale - as if it was store bought then sat at a counter all day. That I think was the only let down of this dish.

Can't wait to be back to have this again!

Bulgolgi Smile Nov 26, 2015

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | BBQ

After really liking the food from here, I dragged my friend back with me. Coincidentally it was another rainy evening which I thought was perfect for something nice & warm to enjoy.
Ban Chan

Ban Chan

As always they served us Ban-Chan after we ordered. My favourite is always the Kimchi that is provided and also the ikan bilis. I don't know why but the ones made here is not crispy but instead crunchy - nicely salty and also sweet. I always ask for refill just for this side dish and they are always very accomodating without charging me extra for that.

I ordered Beef Bulgolgi which is also a major favourite of mine to get. And for Rm20, including a bowl of rice, it was really worth it. It came in the claypot bubbling and boiling with lots of enoki mushrooms strewn on top of it. The stew tasted really good and the thinly sliced beef was really tender.

Eating this with a bowl of steaming hot korean rice made my night so much better.

Family favourites  Smile Oct 05, 2015

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Bak Kut Teh

Although many people say that Klang has the best Bak Kut Teh and some willingly drive all the way there to have some, I personally disagree. To me, one of the best one is from Ka Ka and my family agrees too.

Our favourite to order is the claypot Bak Kut Teh with added offals & pork ribs. The flavour of the soup is bursting with the strong herbs and it is always boiling hot as it arrives to your table.

Another thing that is amazing about this place is you can ask for a lot of soup refills at no additional charge. Which not many other restaurants offer because they often times charge you at a certain price each bowl.

Then they also serve the dry version of bak kut teh which comes with meat, lady fingers and also fried shrimp strips. While the soup version is strongly flavoured with herbs, this version is more heavily spiced which is nice in it's own way too. It's a must-try if you're in a mood for something different.

They also have braised pork belly which is..... GOOD. The sauce is flavourful & thick with flavours from boiling hours on end. Use the fried yao char kuay to dip in this is better than having it in the actual Bak Kut Teh soup.

Something else we absolutely love to other is their stewed preserved vegetable. At home we make it exceptionally sour, spicy and also sweet. Ka Ka's is just the perfect rendition of how my grandmother would cook it and they're never stingy with the veggies. Order this and enjoy a big bowl of steaming hot vegetables.

Getaway Smile Feb 02, 2016

Long weekends are a major blessing to me. Not only does it mean more time for me to rest & be a complete sloth, but also more chance to eat food that we normally have no chance to eat cause of time issue. This time mother wanted to go back to Bentong for our favourite getaway restaurant.

With no hesitation we ordered their stir-fried pig intestine's with dried shrimp, garlic and chillies. This was as good as I last remembered it to be as the intestines were nicely crunchy and mixed with the saltiness of the extra bits plus chillies makes it even yummier. I kind of wished that we had ordered two plates instead of one.

And this was my mother's favourite which was poached kampung chicken. It was pretty good though considering that poultry is not my first choice of meat to eat, I was not too interested in this. However the ginger, scallion, garlic and oil mix that is meant to be eaten with the chicken was what I had more of.

We also ordered a simple steamed fish in soya sauce that came with ginger slices and fried garlic bits. However I kind of forgotten what kind of fish it was only that the meat was super tender & juicy because all their produce is as fresh as can be. Not surprising since we were practically sitting right next to a farm where there are actual animals.

As an added treat we got these fried prawns that were crunchy and salty too because of the batter they were tossed in. At least that's what I presume the flavours were from since there isn't a sauce or anything like that. These were my favourite cause the shells are super crispy which means no peeling required. Just pop them in your mouth and chew it all up.

Definitely worth the drive up here just for their food. Though be warned that over the weekends and any time later than 12pm, there is a crazy amount of people. All with the same idea too. So come early!
