Weekend Brunch  OK Jan 29, 2016
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles | Yong Tau Fu

For weekend brunch, my uncle brought the family to have brunch in Kuchai Lama. Well I went along since I had an appointment with my chiropractor there anyway and free food so there's no complains from me. At first I thought we were going for our usual dim sum fix, however he brought us here for something new.

As a staple hakka dish, the abascus yam is a must order. However this was only so so and I personally do not like it because we've had better elsewhere. The little balls were so stodgy that after eating two piece left me feeling so heavy.

We also ordered this dish where it's just stir-fried pork intestines with stomach. This was actually pretty good and honestly the only thing out of everything else we ordered that I liked. Definitely worth the order if intestines are your thing.

As fir everything else like the hokkien mee and yong tau fu, honestly think they are mediocre at best. However it is still nice but nothing to shout about.

Far drive  Smile Jan 29, 2016

With some free time over the weekend, mother decided to take a drive up to Semenyih for our favourite salt-fried chicken wings. It's kind of crazy to think that we'd go so far just to have some good food in between spending some quality time with family. But often times we do for adventures sake.

THESE FRIED CHICKEN WINGS WERE THE BOMB. Crispy on the outside and super flavourful from the seasonings that were tossed over them after they come out of the fryer. Then, they also toss in lots of garlic, chopped chillies and spring onion. I can eat so many of these in one go.

And because this is my favourite, we also ordered a yam basked with pork meat. The yam was really yummy but I didn't really care too much about the filling cause it was too sweet for me. Though everyone else really liked it.

We also ordered a steamed fsh with simple soya sauce & some sliced ginger. The fish was fresh so there was no mushy bits of meat and the sauce that it came with was good too. However there really isn't much to shout about.

If you are in the area then definitely pay this restaurant a visit if not just for the chicken. Trust me, you won't regret it

Girl's Date Night  Smile Jan 28, 2016

Categories : European | Restaurant | Group/Family dining

Cava comes highly recommended by my best friend after dining there few times before. Her favourite apparently is their fruit sangria and it has also now become mine even if I am never a fan of anything alcoholic.

So naturally for our girl's date night that was where we went to for dinner and it was the best choice we made. The ambience there is rather romantic but also nothing overly fancy which to me is perfect. Although the restaurant is rather small.

For starters, we ordered the seafood soup to share and I was so amazed by what we were served. First was the amount of seafood that came with the soup, there were clams, mussels, squids, a scallop and also a big prawn. It was really good as the tomato-based broth was infused with all the flavours from all the shellfish and also squid.

We would have ordered another bowl if we were stupidly greedy.

Then because this is my absolute favourite to order, we also got the clams cooked with white wine, garlic and chillies to share too. As if the earlier amount of seafood was not enough. This was heavenly to me and the broth that the clams were cooked in were intensely flavourful. We finished this within a blink of an eye and now, I am craving for it again.

And for main, we got the braised beef shoulder with spinach pasta to share because we were already quite full from the earlier starters. This was AMAZING becauset he beef so super tender till it was practically falling off the bone and the sauce it came with was delicious. The pasta was perfectly al dente and everything was amazing.

Now I think it's going to be usual place to go for good dinner.

Old school Smile Jan 28, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | Private Party

So this has been a recent discovery of my mom's ever since dining there with her friends. Which means she was very eager to bring the family there too, especially to enjoy the decor of the restaurant.

However be prepared that the parking is a nightmare to deal with cause there's soo many cars around the area that finding an empty spot will be like finally finding heaven. But hwne you're there, get ready to be taken back to china town in the 60s or 50s era when you're dining at Dragon Door Steamboat.

As someone places an order for all the food, feel free to go to the sauces station and mix up all the ones you want. It's basically up to you how much of each ingredient that you want and you can even take ten different kinds of bowls of sauces. Here are the few that I took and even went for refills halfway through the meal. The fermented beancurd mixed with chopped onions, garlic and parsley is amazing.

This was the cart of all that we ordered. Honestly the portions of each order is quite substantial and a little more than what we would usually get at any steamboat restaurants. However it is also slightly more expensive but definitely worth trying especially for their soups.

The one that I liked the most is the superior herbal soup that was heavy ladden with spices and also all the herbs. Cooking meats in it is heavenly especially dipping it in the sauces after. I can drink bowls after bowls of it. And another special thing about Dragon Door is their soups are all boiled over a charcoal flame rather than the usual gas stove.

They also have a bbq meats selection, however this to me was not as good as the steamboat. Because it's just a few slices of meat cooked in a claypot with some scallions and garlics. But it was definitely different because it's also cooked over charcoal heat.

I do like dining here and would most definitely be back, if im ready to brave the nightmarish traffic plus lacking of parking conditions.

Clams! Smile Jan 27, 2016   (Related Review)

After bugging my friend to go try the food at Two Sons with me, she finally gave in. Only because I agreed to practice painting with her at the same time too. Whatever works for me as long as I get to eat my giant pot of clams stewed in super flavourful broth then I'm happy.

No surprise that my immediate order was the main sized serving of clams (400gms) for the price of Rm46. It also comes with free-flow of fries or garlic brioche. I'd advice against ordering the fries because the ones I got were so bad that I could barely finish the first basket that was brought to us. Plus garlic toast would absorb the sauce so much better.

We got chilli cream base which was heavenly and each clam was super plump. It tasted fresh plus soaked up the sauce really well.

Can't wait to go back for more to try out all the other kinds of sauce!
