Pork Bone Soup OK Jan 13, 2016
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | Seafood

I have heard pretty good review about Coco Steamboat from a few friends, especially the one that lives in Taman Desa. No surprise that the place was quite busy when we arrived for dinner over the weekend and we had to wait for a while before getting a table. But the smaller the pax then it's a little easier to get a table.

Immediately we got down to ordering and it would be stupid of us to not try their famous pork bone soup base. The soup was a milky colour rather than clear and one spoonful packs a big punch of flavour, probably from it bieng boiled for very long hours. However be aware that they charge an extra Rm20 or 30 when you do order this soup.

For quick and easy food, just order the sets which are already prepared. It consists of some seafood, fishballs and other usual steamboat kind of ingredients. Nothing overly fancy however there is the option to add on different things too at an added price.

Like pork slices which I liked even though it is a little expensive for those slices of meat. It does tastes good when lightly cooked in the soup then dipped in the many kinds of sauces that is provided.

Now let's talk about the different kinds of chilli sauces, there are some that are just regular and then there's the really gragrant & spicy one. They're all good in their own way especially when different kinds of things are dipped into it. The green one, take a little bit then mix it with a spoonful of soup just makes things super exciting.

I don't know whether the steamboat is as good as everyone says it is. Even though I quite enjoyed dining there, I don't think I'd go all the way to Coco with the crowd unless I'm nearby and it's convenient.

Japanese Lunch OK Jan 06, 2016

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba | Special Occasion Dining

Sometimes all that my mind can think of throughout the day is food and what kind I want to eat. Often times I find myself craving for things like Thai, Banana Leaf Rice or Japanese. The latter is usually the one I can get to eat easier than the other two.

Thankfully my mom usually understands my crazy food cravings and would bring me to eat at restaurants that she's tried before & thinks are good. Kuriya is one of those places that we opted to have lunch at one weekend.

Because I was on a journey to eat slightly healthier, we ordered this simple salad. It was actually pretty alright and I think that I thought so because it came with a few slices of avocado. Give me some of that and I'm happy. Plus the sesame dressing always makes any salad taste super awesome, just because its the Japanese sesame sauce.

And because I cannot stop myself from ordering sushi, we ordered this california roll to share. For the price that we paid it was alright but really nothing to shout about - seems like I can get the same and maybe even better from my favourite sushi place.

To share, we ordered the grilled saba with teriyaki sauce bento set. I actually quite liked this because the entire set came with one good set of meal - there was the fish, rice, agedashi tofu, chawanmushi, miso soup and some fruits. It was good that we only ordered one set or else two would be too much.

While the portion is good, the taste was only so-so. Again its nothing out of the ordinary that you can't just get at another sushi joint, but the ambience is nice so I guess we were mainly paying for that.

Lunch with mom OK Jan 04, 2016

Categories : Western variety | Bar & Pub | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches

Rather than stay at home during the holiday, mother decided to bring us out to spend some quality time together. She's never been to Nu Sentral before so we decided to go there only she detoured and went to Sooka Sentral instead because we were craving for some good pub food. Oddly enough it was only the early afternoon so it was kind of crazy to be having heavy pub food but we dined there anyway.

To share, we ordered the Caeser salad that came with two pieces of toasted french bread. This was alright but nothing too crazy to should about even if I did like the anchovy slices that added a nice flavour to the salad. However I wasn't too pleasedwith the hard boiled egg that was beyond cooked.

Then because I am a sandwich person, I ordered the club sandwich that came with a side of fries. The side was normal however nothing as good as the fries you can get a any McDonald's. Howeverthe main sandwich was pretty good because it was filled with a lot of different fillings layered nicely with a heavy slather of mayonnaise. This was share between three people and it was more than enough for just two actually.

Being the carnivores that we are, we also got the meat platter that consists of roasted pork belly, ribs and also pork sausages. While I was quite excited about this because really, who doesn't enjoy a plate of nothing but meat. However the pork belly was mediocre and the ribs were slightly on the dry side. Then the sausage was like any you can purchase yourself at the supermarket so that too was lack lustre.

Will we return, probably but most definitely will not be the first choice should we decide to venture out for something to eat.

French Desserts OK Dec 27, 2015
Categories : French | Restaurant

After dinner, us girls were hungry for something sweet to sink our teeth into while we enjoy a nice glass of wine. Well at least they all did while I was just looking for something to nibble on because I was still feeling peckish even after dinner. Since we were around there and it was a place we wnated to try out, we dropped by Rendez-vous.

The place was relatively packed which is understandable considering that it was a holiday night. However the service was pretty good which I really commend them for despite the big crowd.

Vanilla Creme Brulee was the first choice we went for and everything we ordered was to share. Whether this is a substancial portion considering the price that we paid for it however is really up for debate - personally I did not think so. Especially since the taste was only so-so and there was no brulee on the top which this dessert is famous for. Disappointing to say the least.

Then because this is my favourite, I got the platter of two selected cheeses. I don't know why but I was somewhat disappointed when this arrived because it was merely two measly slices of cheese, one camembert and then some blue cheese. There was a few nuts and preserved fruit scattered about, hardly enough even for a person and served with some fruit chutney plus a small salad. It was fine but really nothing to shout about.

Then as a recommendation, we got this apple dessert with a scoop of ice cream and some crispy thing. Honestly this was the only thing of the night that we really liked and I think it had everything to do with the ice cream and the brittle.

Will we be back for the desserts however is less likely. Perhaps maybe we'd give this place another try for their savoury menu. Though I do like the ambience there and the fact that it's a french dining restaurant that isn't too cut-throat with prices.

Seafood OK Dec 14, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Seafood

One evening, my mom decided to bring us out for a treat and she brought us to Loong Foong that is well-known for their seafood. Also rather exurbent price for a regular tai chow place but yet is filled to the brim with customers, especially on the weekends. So be prepared to be sitting amongst a huge crowd and waiting quite a while for your food to arrive.

For starters we got the cheese baked prawns which we AMAZING. It's half a prawn each person because one whole one would be far too cloying and filling for a single person.

The prawn is pretty large in size, stuffed with lots of cream & cheese before baking until the top is nicely golden brown. This tasted sinfully good which I enjoyed and finished up within a minute. Everyone else liked it too and ate it all up before it even got a chance to get cold.

As always with my family, we always have to order claypot braised pork belly with salted fish. This has to be one of our favourite dishes and the one we ordered that night was pretty good. Not the best we've had so far but definitely better than a number of restaurants we have tried at. The flavour is there and there is some salted fish lurking about in the pot, however we prefer an extra punch of flavour. However that's my family's preference.

Then of course, we also ordered steamed fish with sweet soya sauce. This was pretty amazing because the fish was nicely cooked, juicy and also very succulent which was perfectly complimented by the sweet sauce. The portion was pretty big for our table however, it is definitely more expensive than the price that we usually pay at our usual restaurants.

Since we were in the mood to indulge, we also order this stewed seafood in pumpkin. I personally feel like the pumpkin was merely the medium to hold the dish and make the entire thing look interesting. With that being said however, this tasted pretty good because the sauce screamed decadence as it was thick and sweet with a hint of the seafood flavours that was braised in it.

The ingredients that came with it were great. There was plenty of scallops which were pretty big in size, abalone slices that were firm to the bite and also other things that was screaming with luxury. Everyone at the table loved this dish and scooped up all of the sauce, not leaving anything behind.

Safe to say we left the restaurant feeling very satisfied. However I am not very pleased by the service of the staff, which I guess is due to the amount of customers they had to tend to. Still it did put most of us in a bad mood, not that easily overlooked even if the food is good.
