Pantai Seafood @ Kayu Ara OK Feb 17, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

Pantai Seafood is part of the Unique Seafood chain of restaurants and this means that the seafood will be good and definitely fresh. Walking in, you'll be greeted with tanks and aquariums of life seafood. I wouldn't say it is merely a good gimmick but I think its good distraction when you have restless kidstongue Restless kids wasn't a problem for us as we were all hungry foodies...

Steamed Salty Soaked Chicken proved to a brilliant start. The chicken was steamed just right. It was not over steamed so it remained tender. Not overly salty, it was good enough to be eaten on its own without a need to dip into the sauces on the side.

I always love beancurds and the Traditional Hand-made Hakka Beancurd is a good dish that I would order the next time I return to Pantai Seafood. Loved the beany goodness of the choice of beancurd. The sauce is appetising enough for us to carbo load as well.

Plain Steam Prawn only works if the prawns are fresh. Each prawn is sweet and succulent. Dip it into the magical chilly sauce for an extra kick.

Fresh fishes are best eaten steamed. No need for any elaborate sauces or deep frying. And living up to Unique Seafood's reputation for fresh seafood, the Steamed in Hong Kong Style fish was good. A test of freshness? I ate the eyestongue The choice of good soya sauce obviously enhanced the whole steam fish.

Since the group couldn't exactly decide which crab preparation we all wanted, we ended up with 2 preparations. Frankly I didn't like the Milky Cream Style crab. There was nothing special to it.

The Baked Meat Crab with Salted Egg Yolk was a better choice. Every crab was coated with a generous coating of salted egg. Generous but not overpowering making it a finger licking good dish.

And finally, what is a meal with the foodies without the Crispy Pork Trotters that Pantai Seafood is famous for. Crispy skin and tender flesh. Marinated well...it was also absolutely finger licking good as SW demonstrated.

I love beer. I love pork ribs. I love furkids. I love my car pals. OK its not necessarily in that order but I am writing with a very hungry stomach and crazy thirst in my mouth.

Hubby and I arrived early. We walked our diva Shalom (yes thisplaceis furkid friendly -but you have to sit outdoors) first before we settled comfortable and started off with our beer while waiting for the rest to arrive. Yummy cold beer. We started with the Red Dot for Dennis while I opted for the English Ale. The diva wasn't left out. She had her iced water and lots of treats that I had baked that Sunday morning.

As the rest took turns to arrive, we started with one of the best fried calamari in town. Not chewy like eating your pencil eraser, it was tender and flavourful. Was tempted to order a second serving just for myself.

Being quite hungry and not being able to resist pasta and bacon, we ordered the Craft Brews Pasta. Yummy creamy sauce with a bell peppers and shitake mushrooms. Oh! A generous portion of crispy bacon. The only complain would be I prefer my pasta to be al dente. That aside, the pasta was perfect.

Yes this bunch of makan, car & furkids kakis opted for 2 servings of the BBQ Meat Platter. I love the soup (minestrone) in little cups. Cute! Most importantly it was a comforting start to the main meal.

The salads are really generous. After all the meat that we're going to eat, vegies are a definite must.

The meat platters arrive. Corn looked beautiful and is still nice and juicy. The wedges here are creamy on the inside and crispy outside. Perfect for the beers to come. But a word of caution. Don't be too trigger happy in munching the wedges first. Otherwise you'll be too filled to eat the meat especially the yummy ribs!

We ordered all 3 flavours of the ribs and my personal favourite is honey mustard. The ribs were juicy, tender and absolutely flavourful. Use your hands and lick the ribs cleanlol The chicken is also equally good.

So if you have any carnivorous appetite, this is one good place. Bring your furkids (call to reserve your table) and have a good time of ribs, beer and fun with your furkids and makan company like I did.

Hot Gossip! Smile Jan 06, 2012

Hot Gossip!

Is that what we call when we catch up with friends This post is a new spot that we discovered and love. Convenience since we can assemble for a meal before we head off to the nearby malls to shop till we drop. So there we were on a random Sunday, meeting up with pals over our coffee, tea, sandwiches, chocolates, cheese and even rojak at Hot Gossip in Parkroyal Hotel downtown.

Sunny Sunday morning must be greeted with cheery sounding food and drinks. I opted for the Spanish Cucumber and Vanilla Latte. It sounded happy...and I was a happy girl when I sipped it. Refreshing cucumber (not green cucumber taste...) with coffee. Hot and yummy it put a wide smile to my face.

A whole long list of drinks we all ordered different drinks of our choice. Some opted for something healthier e.g. the Exotic Watermelon Smoothie or even a good cup of tea.

Watermelon Smoothie

A good cup of tea

Hot chocolate in the form of Caramel Chocolate on a Sunday is also a good idea.

What is a sandwich unless we have a tuna sandwich OK...this is me. I love tuna sandwiches and I think tuna sandwiches are a must have at any decent place that serves sandwiches. Here we have a refreshing Thai Tuna Sandwich which is definitely infused with light Thai flavours.

I love Irish stews and was glad to see Irish Stew Pie on the menu. Yes obviously we had to order it then. Yes, Irish Stew is one of my all time comfort food. A hearty pie of minced lamb and chunky vegetables, this is a perfect meal on its own if I were to eat alone.

Another great nibble would be rojak. The rojak here is simply awesome. Satisfying prawn paste with a generous topping of peanuts, this is almost as good as my favourite rojak in Penang.

Say hello to the Apple and Raisin Danish that looks like a smile with eyes being the Banana Danishlol

Again, an awesome place to chill out. Another return beckons. And update to come soonlol

Heard about Fat Spoon from pals working around Damansara Utama. So here it is...I remembered only when someone asked me how to make popiah!

Tucked in the middle of a row of shops is this place called Fat Spoon. The name itself is cute. And not knowing what to expect, I opened the door to a place that's quite filled with happy diners. The warm cozy feel inside took my breath away. It was as if I walked into someone's dining room.

Was in for my next surprise when the menu arrived. I was given 2 Lady Bird books. I blinked. Lady Bird Books I don't have any kids with me. I certainly don't look like a kid. The lady walked back and smiled at me. Gently she said "That's our menu." Hmmmm.
I'm a kid?

I'm a kid?

Looked through both books and ordered our food and drinks. I can't resist books. So requested that I could hang on to the book because I wanted to read them (and yes learn new terms - if you remember your Lady Bird books, you'll be learning new terms and words).

Service is quite fast. My Ulam Fried Rice arrived shortly followed by Dennis' Chicken Curry. I loved my Ulam Fried Rice. It was flavourful with an assortment of herbs and vegetables - nothing overwhelmed each ingredient. The Kunyit Fried Chicken that came along with it was also fabulous flavourful. It was very close to how my Goon family grannies and aunties did it. The only complain perhaps was that the Ulam Fried Rice was a tad wet and oily for my liking. I've always liked my fried rice dry and one of the ways to achieve such effect is to cook your white the day before (granny shared this cooking tip with me).

Hubby ordered the Nyonya Curry Chicken. It tasted OK. Wasn't anything out of the extraordinary except the long beans was cooked just right. Not too soft neither was it hard and raw.

Now the fun part. We ordered the popiah and the lady asked if we wanted to roll our own popiah "Roll my own popiah" Yes yes yes...I'll love that. So when it arrived, I was all super ready to play with my food. Spread some of the sweet prawn paste on the popiah skin. You can spread a thicker layer if you like the prawn paste. This would be a good time to spread the chilli paste for an even taste. Put in a slice of lettuce and then a little of all the ingredients. Read "a little" of else you'll have an overstuffed popiah that will not fold nicely. Hehehe. Hubby certainly went a wee too enthusiastic and his looked a wee bloated.

All in all, Fat Spoon is a lovely place to return too. I did not try the coffees then as it was dinner time. Soon, we shall return to try more items and the coffees that many pals told me that I must try. And since I can bring my furkid Shalom along (sit outside of course) this place sounds like a new haunt for us (only if the weather does not hit 39C as it has been the last couple of weeks).

And the receipt was also served in a book. This time a romance book. Yeah from kids learning to read (t order our food) and a romance book (for our bill), I certainly have grown a lot over dinner at Fat Spoonlol
I've grown up!

Freshly Brewed. Freshly Baked. OK Jan 06, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Café

Coffee, snacks & chit chat for brunch on a lazy Saturday. Perfect to kick start weekends. This time Saturday chill session was at Chilla Cup since the many were raved about the freshly baked pretzels there.

Freshly baked pretzels are such lovely comfort food. And seriously, its tough having to say no to them too. Here at Chilla Cup, pretzels are made fresh on the spot. And when you spot them at work, its even harder to resist trying the variants.

Since it was a gathering of a bunch of girls, needless to say, we went on an eating frenzylol Here's what we ate (and drank).

Fruity with a yogurt base, the Strawberry Smoothie is a good recommendation for those who want something cold and healthy.

A caramel macchiato for those who love sweet coffeelol

The espresso macchiato was my choice since I seriously needed to kick start my sleepy head.

A smooth and creamy Hot Chocolate to feed someone's chocolate addiction.

How could one just order one type of pretzel when the pretzels are baked freshly Opt for plain pretzels which are seriously good to eat on its own. Or dip it into the available dips. My fave Definitely sweet caramel and sour cream & onion.

The Cinnamon Pretzels is lightly coated with cinnamon. Flavourful! And because I was nursing a sweet tooth then, I dipped a slice of the cinnamon pretzel into the caramel dip. It was simply amazing.

Another sinfully good snack would be the Double Cheese Honey Thick Toast. Sweet and savoury at the same time, every bite is filled with a generous topping of parmesan and mozzarella.

Lots of carbo. Lots of caffeine. Lots of sugar. In the end, its just a good afternoon out with the girls catching up on the latest goss and of course giggle our hearts out!
