Char Kuey Tiao Smile Dec 17, 2013   (Related Review)

Char Kuey tiao!!!! My favourite. Here has got pretty awesome char kuey tiao. Like most char kuey tiao in Melaka, this one also served with sweet sauce. Chili is optional, but I like the original with no chili added to it. This one here has a lot of taugeh in it, so every bite is awesome. Don't forget the delicious cockles.

Baking and pastry has surfaced at many places and doing even better when within the residential areas. Mostly with missions to emphasis on the need of healthy eating while savoring good product through the recipes that uses the best ingredients possible that is beneficial to people. Here is the butter and olive, the name itself has already invoked wholesome goodness from farms and fields. While using the natural ingredients to make the bread and pastries, they topped that with freshness to retain their customers as well as providing the new ones a spanking new experience.

Mille crepe cake Smile Oct 05, 2013

Categories : Western variety | Sweets/Snack | Bakery / Cake / Kuih

The famous mile crepe that has been rooted in Melaka since years back blossomed to the many branches within Melaka town itself, as well as the recent one in Petaling Jaya. It has became a must visit stop on the list of foodies when they step foot in Melaka. Fortunate for the people in Melaka, they get to enjoy theses amazing layer crepe slices whenever they feel like it. The Nadeje also sell few dishes for the main course but that really arent their forte, rather the cakes were the ones that is selling really good. The branch within the Mahkota Parade shopping mall (the one right across the dataran pahlawan shopping mall) is chic and comfortable to lounge with their alluring couches and comfy pillows. The seating and the interior of this place is very comfortable and suitable for casual meals amongst family and friends. The surrounding at this place is relatively decent and clean. Somewhat clean and comfortably pleasant, this is a good place to dine. To some extend I must say that cleanliness and the appearance of the shop plays quite a crucial role in keeping their customers happy and returning.

Best tau kee ever Smile Aug 30, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles | Yong Tau Fu

Yong tau foo normally goes with chee cheong fan in sweet sauce, chili sauce, or curry. In Ampang yong tau foo, these stuffed fish paste delicacy is eaten with white rice. Some place sells it with noodles too. In Melaka, there is one that has been selling for generations. Known as “Ah Cheng Yong Tau Foo” by the locals, this family business has been around somewhere near some run down cinema. Sometime ago, they have moved to a nicer shop with air conditioned, thank god for that.

There weren’t many choices to begin with, but people come for their home made fish paste and fish balls. There varieties were not very attractively different or creative from the rest of the similar. But the simplicity in authentic recipe is what’s charming and deliciously attractive. Like every noodle shop, the noodles come in either dry or soup. I ordered both dry of yellow mee and kuey tiao and I LOVE the kuey tiao. No confusion with hor fun what so ever so the texture wasn’t soft and chewy smooth. The solid texture was amazing with simple soy sauce garnished with sprinkled fried shallot, chopped spring onion, and the crunchy fried lardons.

The noodles are served in a mini portion because customers normally add on many ingredients. I added some vegetables, fried eggplant, and some fried ‘’tau kee’’.

The fried tau kee here are really famous and I can see why. It is served fresh and deep fried only upon ordered. So sometimes customers might have to wait a little bit because they do not fry in bulk to ensure no customers get any soggy ones. It is always crispy on the outside and juicy from the plump fish paste inside. Same goes with the eggplant, rich and big amount of fish paste inside. Everything is really fresh and when picking for the ingredients, take note how only very little is available. However, refilling rate is rather high.

If order only the noodle, it would be served with some soup so for those not too fancy with fish balls or yong tau foo, just order plain noodle but order a large portion.

Freshly baked from the oven OK Aug 22, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Sweets/Snack | Bakery / Cake / Kuih

Biscuits, bakery, kuih and confectionary is always fascinating to me. The combination of many or few simple ingredients combines to produce such aromatic delicacies. Not to mention how each of them comes with unique cultural influences. The Jonker Street in Melaka is one place that is so culturally rich and historically preserved.Somewhere at a junction along Jalan Hang Jebat before entering the Jonker Street is the Poh Keon Enterprise and the aromatic scent might awaken any groggy head.

Instant baking and fresh from oven, these little devils make really good compliment to a nice cup of tea. Fluffy, light and crispy layers with sweet paste fillings made from common yet simple ingredients like green bean and winter melon.

They are really generous with samples so you can try every bit of everything before deciding what to buy. These traditional confectionaries are unfortunately without English names. It could make things difficult for those who don’t read Chinese. And yes, I am referring to yours truly here. Sigh….

These freshly packed upon purchased inside a box and these made great souvenir.
