Freshness in Edo Ichi Smile Aug 08, 2013

The ultimate goal in any restaurant is to satisfy dinners with either the dishes, the quality of the ingredients, the exotic choices of ingredients, the dining ambience or/and the great service at the restaurant. At the same time, Japanese restaurant seemed to have been living up to that reputation most of the time. Edo Ichi in Solaris Dutamas is one of the few to name that gives a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant has really dimmed lightings to provice amazingly calm and soothing dining experience. The design and layout of each table are as such whereby it creates a clandestine space of your own when enjoying the dishes.Upon seated, the staffs delicately places proper cutleries and hot towel for each person.

My favourite starter has to be the Horenso goma ae. This is a cold dish which of chilled spinach with sesame sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The complex texture of crunchy and refreshing spinach that is at the same time chilled is one interesting juicy bite for starters.

There are also hot dishes that are amazing as starters. I tried the Chawamushi and assorted mushroom with garlic. Both were delicious and the later would be amazing for mushroom lovers.

I also tried the Baked Scallop which I would order again when I go back. In which I definitely would since I am recently in love with this place.

Moving to hot dishes, the Salmon ara tama jiru is this amazing and affordable bean paste soup with salmon fish head and stirred egg. Selling at only RM 10, enjoy plump and fresh salmon head and the calm texture of hot soup in the cooling ambience of the restaurant.

For the ladies that is always conscious with their figure and how much calorie intake or if it is fattening and what’s not, then I strongly recommend the Soft kani karaage to shake kawa. This salad topped with deep fried soft shell crab and salmon skin comes with three selections of salad dressings (goma dressing aka sesame sauce, yuzu dressing aka citron sauce, and wasabi dressing aka horse raddish sauce). The fried soft shell crab may not be the best to recommend for someone on a strict diet, but take note the ratio of the salad leaves served in this salad dish.

Apparently, their sushi choices are rather good as well. Sashimi lovers can try the Rainbow roll which comes as 8 pieces serving of sushi roll with salmon, tuna, crab stick, avocado and cucumber for RM 23.

Another sushi dish that impresses me a lot is the Volcano roll which is sushi roll with assorted fish and special mayo sauce, pilling up to a shape of volcano. Prior to serving, the sauce were burnt to create the volcano lava and enhancing the fragrant of egg in mayo sauce. And when digging into the core of the volcano, that is where you find the sushi rolls. This is sells at RM 23 for 8 pieces of sushi in it.

Also, I really love the Sushi set which was absolutely fantastic that night when I had it. It was really fresh and every slice came with the perfect thickness to accolade the palate.

Hidden within the scuffy enclave of Sri Petaling, the Fusion Haven brings home closer than you can ever imagined with their friendly staffs and owner and a range of far-reaching fusion dishes. The Fusion Haven fuses all possible combination of flavours hence creating fusion of culinary at a different dimension-a blissful haven. Something like no other and probably the best fusion experience one can indulge.

Kick starting the fusion feast with an amazing Fusion Mango Salad (RM 13.90) served inside crackling crunch of a crispy basket and if that doesn’t trigger the saliva gland, I don’t know what does. Bedded beautifully in the basket with some fresh lettuce, apple tartar, tangy sweet and fragrant mango, topped with raisins and pumpkin seeds for a better texture, the mix of these were almost divine especially when all ingredients used are fresh.

They hit that big score when the Salusciccia Grilled Portobello Mushroom was served. This Italian style grilled fresh Portobello mushroom stuffed with homemade pork meat and breadcrumbs might have appeared slightly exclusive with RM 19.90, but the plump sized mushroom with incredibly rich and moist stuffing is absolutely breath taking.

And just as I am succumbing to the appetizers, fusion gets to paramount approach when the California Unagi Rice Noodle Roll was served. The mix of all possible texture and flavour renders the most interesting combination. This tempura style fried rice noodle rolled with unagi, dressed with teriyaki sauce and topped with ebiko and colourfully garnished with lettuce and edamame is selling at RM 18.90. The aroma of seaweed and unagi plus the texture of crispy tempura and the spongy chew or rice noodle sheet rolled within is a clever fuse but if with addition of a solid texture in it would be genius.

After the chinese-Japanese fuse, there is the delightful Korean Style Kimchi Sausage Omelets rice. There is rice and teriyaki sauce topped with egg and pork sausages, kimchi, leeks, seaweed, ebiko and a sprinkle of sesame for RM 8.90 each. Mixed them all and the flavours would take you to a different dimension. Should the ingredients be at the top freshness always would this be an ambrosial experience.

The Carbonara is this Italian inspired creamy spaghetti with bacon, eggs and parmesan cheese which was adjusted to very much suit the local patrons but least to my liking when it comes soft texture of the pasta. While that also applies to the Smoked Duck Pomodoro Alfredo the tender smoked duck meat did infused the creamy pasta sauce to make this irresistible. The creamy pasta with mushrooms, tomato puree, and wine and parmesan cheese serves at moderate portion and hardly relenting. The pastas sell at RM 16.90 and RM 23.90 respectively.

The American Fusion Style BBQ Pork Spare Ribs sells at RM 39.90 and serves as a grilled pork ribs with fries and salad and this lovely fruity BBQ sauce. The sauce is almost immense with linger of flavours that roams in your mouth. The pork however was a disappointment. The minimum bar to good food is fresh ingredient but the meat was flaky and distinguishable over thawing smell from meat definitely perplexed the very finickle eater.

The menu is very extensive and there is obviously something for the communal eating. I was impressed with the use of banana instead of pineapple in a Hawaiian pizza but it was a bold choice of fusion that remarkably bedazzled me. The sweet of banana and savoury of everything else with those effort strips of lettuce as garnish is obviously venerable. Comes in this Hawaiian style turkey ham and banana pizza, topped with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, dressed with special marinara sauce on top of the awesome charcoal crust and sells at RM 26.90.

The dessert range is something to be bragged as well. Melt your heart with the Warm Hearted Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream where you get a bursting flow of hot lava chocolate from inside a otherwise ordinary chocolate cake and feel the combustion when hot meets the cold vanilla ice cream. Weirdy garnished with pumpkin seeds, this dessert sells at RM 7.90 each. Now doesn’t the plate remind you of home?

Fusion never gets any better than this. Highly recommended is the Unagi California Roll.

Offering relaxing lounges and wide selection of cocktails and beer cocktails, astounding mix of flavours with a medley zest and an extensive menu with choices of selection for communal eating as well as individual orders in Chapter One, this becomes divine lounging area. Also engage with their live bands every night while indulging in a drink or two. With a podium, pool table, and some couches, the Chapter One still manages to squeeze some bar tables and stools, as well as comfortable seats, be it to enjoy a drink or two or to enjoy a meal.

Even though the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase is not active but the palate is still functioning well to rank my favourite mix of the night. The winner is the Irish Car Bomb which in case anyone is clueless, is the Guinness mix with Bailey’s cream and Irish whisky. The Bailey’s being the first Irish cream introduced in the 70s is probably the key component to the outcome of this. Once the “bomb” was dropped into a half pint of stout, it instantly transformed what was originally coarsely malt into this velvety smooth and rich creamy textured maltiness. Cream curdles when meeting acid, making it impossible to sip this leisurely. Hence one might consider sharing if a pint is too heavy.

Something else for the stroll would be their beer cocktails and cocktails promotion. Pick two choices of Beer Cocktail at RM 45 or choices of three cocktails at RM 60. Here is the Lunch Box (Lager, Orange, Amaretto Disorono), Strawberry Daiquiri (which did not appeal to me thanks to the overpowering Bacardi Carta Blanc to Crème De Fraise and Lime Squeeze), Sex on the Beach (Skyy Original, Peach, Cranberry, Orange) and the Snake Bite Black Pint (Strongbow Apple Cider, Lager, Blackcurrant).

Fermenting at lower temperature, the composition is distinctively distinguishable with the clearer colour. On the other hand, the Strongbow mojito tasted slightly fresher than lager. The after taste certainly roamed a little longer.

Pair all that with bites of juicy and succulent pieces of Crispy Pork Ribs. These deeply marinade and flavourful deep fried pork ribs with fermented bean curd, and served with sweet and sour homemade Thai chili sauce would get you polishing each rib to sparkle in the end. The Pork Meatball is slightly underwhelming when compared to the pork ribs, but a better choice that would make you look more elegant if you are ever on a date.

Their Sliced beef is another fair deal pricing at RM 18 with grilled Angus beef slices served on top of Kailan and accompanied by Japanese soya sauce topped with Wasabi. The clean and pure Wasabi flavour was a memorable one. A very clever choice of condiment to pair with the otherwise ordinary beef slices.

The Pasta range didn’t quite do them great justice but adequate to grant delight to hunger. Pork Meatball Pasta in Tomato Sauce would perpetually keep you digging in thanks to the appetizing savoury sweet tangy flavour from the tomato.

Spicy Seafood Aglio Olio Pasta is one exigent dish in pasta range. If done correctly would be breathtakingly mind blowing. The simpler it is, the more challenging it is. While the seafood in this is relatively good, the texture and flavour did appear to fall short from perfect.

Caved within Desa Sri Hartamas, parking is always tedious but fear not because Chapter One provides free jockey service. Something to look for when considering the venue. All the good reasons to chill and lounge with some good food, a drink or two and some live band performances.

Moving to my all time favourite which is the pudding, they have got quite a bit of interesting choices as well. I kind of like the caramel pudding even though I am no big fan of caramel. Wasn’t dulcified to extreme, and I love it just as it is.Also great was the texture and the slight chill in it, Making this delightfully tasty.

Skimmed milk pudding OK Dec 20, 2013   (Related Review)

Then there is this interesting item which I thought I must try it, double and skimmed milk custard. Haven’t had those in any other dessert shops. It was indeed new to me, and I kind of like the milky fragrant. The texture is smooth and intense just the right way of a good pudding.
