SS Lime Smile Sep 30, 2013
Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Café | Steaks / Chops | Nasi Lemak

SAVARO's very own fruit punch creation of strawberry extract and lime juice combined and topped with soda water, kaffir lime and mint leaves. To perfect this concoction, you will need to crush the mint leaves immediately before consuming.

This was the first drink that was served to us. It is called the SS Lime, however, I prefer to call it "Bloody Mary" because of the flowing strawberry extract. It looks visually stunning as I was awed by its floating 'blood'. Taste wise, it has just the right amount of strawberry sweetness along with a little sourness and fizziness. Absolutely loved it.

798 Shabu Shabu OK Sep 30, 2013

Firstly, I would like to say that I appreciate the varieties of soup, meat and sauces. This is something that I believe no other shabu-shabu has done. Furthermore, I would also like to point out that the meat was really fresh, consistently sliced and well portioned. However, the only issue I had was the soup. It was bland, almost tasteless.

The Tomyam soup which I tried was just spicy, it had no sourness or anything else. The Wintermelon soup only gets better as you keep cooking different variant of ingredients together. Having said that, the soup was still not quite there. Pork Bone Clear soup had no sense of Pork Bone, felt like it was just clear chicken stock soup. Herbal soup was pretty disappointing as well. I've yet to tried the other 5 soups because they were unavailable on that day.

The sauce wasn't exactly something new to me, but its nice to see a restaurant having such varieties of sauces. Anyway, I really liked the Green Chili. It was spicy and tangy at the same time. Wasn't a fan of the other sauces but apparently, I was supposed to mix and match different sauces together to create a whole new flavour. But I couldn't do it, it was just too much for me.

Having said that, the choices of vegetables, fishballs, meatballs, crabstick, noodles were all very good. Not to mention they were also very fresh. Their drinks menu were pretty good as well. I personally loved the Waterchestnut drink. One last issue was the ice cream. They were horribly diluted. If only they were to change to a different supplier or perhaps recipe, it could be much much better.

Seafood are currently still unavailable due to the difficulty of maintaining freshness and price. However, there will be new upcoming menu/ingredients to the restaurant in the near future.

Buffet Lunch: RM29.80++ per pax (11am-5pm)
Buffet Dinner: RM39.80++ per pax (5pm-11pm)
All prices are subjected to 10% service charge.
Any 100gram wastage would cost you RM10.
A time limit of 100minute per table. An additional RM30 will be added for every 30minute extension.
Children below 7 years old will be free of charge.
Children between 90-140cm or below 12 years old, senior citizens above 60 will be entitled for 50% discount.

Overall, I believe the price are pretty standard. I personally think if only they were to improve the soup, just the soup, their business would be fantastic. However it may seem, I would really want to express my gratitude to the owners of 798 Shabu Shabu for this hangout. I may have hated the soup but I truly believe that they will improve it and one day, I will return to try again.

Watermelon Juice OK Sep 30, 2013   (Related Review)

It was pretty weird to me that a Korean restaurant serves watermelon juice. Normally, the one that I've been to only serves Soju, brown riice tea/green tea and Korean soda. Having juices was something new. The watermelon juice here wasn't exactly that bad nor was it good. It has enough flavour but it still felt a little diluted. Perhaps more watermelon would increase its density.

Korean Appetizer Cry Sep 30, 2013   (Related Review)

I believe its a tradition for Koreans to serve their appetizers along with their meals. However, weirdly enough, I had to pay Rm2 for this plate of additional appetizers. The plate consists of fried peanuts and anchovies, braised mushrooms and cold wintermelon salad thing. All 3 weren't as good as I'd expect it to be. The anchovies and peanuts had almost no flavour but salt. The mushroom tasted pretty stale whilst the wintermelon was just cold.

Bibimbap Cry Sep 29, 2013   (Related Review)

I love Korean food, I really do. I really love to eat kimchi jjigae and korean bbq. However, bibimbap isn't one of my top choices. The mixture of so many different types of vegetables and the lack of sauce caused it to be a little too dry for me. The varieties were really nice and all, but without a sauce or something to moisten up the food, it would be too bland and dry for me. I personally do not enjoy it but I know many who do.
