Apple Crumble Smile Sep 26, 2013

We ordered this out of desperation to stay longer for chit-chatting. Mental note, Betty's is NOT a place to chit-chat. You will be 'chased' away by giving menus for more ordering or just blatantly telling you that there are many people waiting outside. Well, I suppose it's not fair to hog the seats but then again I have never been 'ushered' away in other restaurants before like here. Other than this, the service is top-notch though!

This is one apple crumble that looks very different to the ones that I've tried. This particular one did not come with a crust! Instead, it was sprinkled with crumbs on top of the sweetened apple slices! What a way to present the crumbles! I really love it together with the fresh ice cream, if only it didn't melt so easily. The apples were sweet and warm, must mix with the crumbles for more flavors and texture in your mouth. Will try this again on my next visit.

Recently, Bird Garden has changed their set lunch menu. Since I haven't tried this before, I ordered it as it sounded delicious. When served, there's a wisp of bad smell. In the end, I concluded that it came from the order. But when I eat it, it seems ok. So it was probably the baked cheese smell. The rice served was fragrant and mix with some herbs. It was topped with fried chicken cutlet, baked with cheese with a few pieces sliced egg. The chicken was the star as the marination was perfect. The cheese tasted quite good and has that stringy texture when pulled. However, it gets pretty dry as there wasn't any sauce.

After an afternoon gym session, the lunch crowd has long dispersed. However, the lunch deal is still on for Garden Recipe. After about 10-15mins of wait, my freshly fried, fried rice came topped with chopped fried chicken and vege. The set also comes with a glass or herbal drink and a bowl of miso soup. Quite a good deal. The fried rice was a little dry but I commend them for frying them fresh as most of these restaurants would just serve ready made ones. In fact, the bowl of rice is quite alot. The chicken taste good too but the vegetable was a bit bitter. One annoying thing was that my table was disturbed by a fly. But other than that, it was a decent meal.

Spicy Tonkotsu Smile Sep 24, 2013   (Related Review)

Gantetsu's broth is thick. Added with their spicy condiments, it becomes thicker and instead of spicy, it becomes saltier too. I love the noodles and meat though. This time, the meat was not too fat. The crunchy black fungus was also a worthy add on. The spicy broth gets better as I began to get used to it. It's not too bad of a combination although not something that I will order twice. The bowl is huge and I couldn't finish the broth which I normally could.

Roast Pork + Roast Chicken Rice Smile Sep 24, 2013

It took them less than a minute to serve 2 plates of rice! Talking about efficiency! I was very hungry that day and was glad thay my order came so fast. The rice was oily rice was fragrant but a bit dry. Nothing the chili sauce can't fix though. I got the chicken breast part and it wasn't bad. The sauce was slightly salty but mix well with the rice. The roast pork is alright as the skin was slightly hard already.
