With the help of the navigation app and some pointers from our fellow foodies from the blogosphere, we finally landed ourselves at the doorstep of Little Wonton, which has been creating hype around the internet world because of their supposedly irresistible fried dumplings with plenty of flavours and interesting fillings to pick from.

The simple decoration of Little Wonton has been tastefully done. There is a certain welcoming warmth that comforts the patrons and makes you all feel all homey, comfortable and cosy the instant you enter the shop, which by the way is located on the first floor. So if you discover yourself walking around the shop lots and you are pretty sure you have got the address correct, remember to look up! You should be able to notice the signboard then!
Whether you like them sweet or salty, there are plenty of Air Fried Wontons to choose from. It comes in 6 pieces for the price of RM7.90. There are other items to pick from too like the Curry Fishball which we were pretty tempted to order and Air Fried Chicken Wings too! So take your pick! Remember to watch the chalkboard near the counter because they do offer set meals or other promotions.

CHARCOAL NOODLES – VINEGAR GARLIC LYCHEE RM6.90
My initial response – WEIRD. You can’t deny it that this is a pretty odd combination, it’s lychee man and also did I mention that this noodle is served cold? I am not really a fan of cold dishes but at that moment, I decided to give it the benefits of doubt, and boy, I definitely don’t regret this. The noodle is surprisingly appetizing and tasty thanks to the vinegar zest, the mild garlicky taste and the sweetness of lychee makes the otherwise dull charcoal noodle an enjoyable dish. Though I must warn you though, the noodle comes in a pretty small portion especially for guys might find it unsatisfying. Will I return for this? Definitely.

CHARCOAL NOODLES – CREAMY ROASTED SESAME RM6.90
Sesame dressing makes everything alright. You know those roasted sesame dressing that you can get from Japanese restaurants when you order salad? Those good kinds. So yeah that kinda pretty sums up my feel on this noodle dish. I like it, but that’s also because I love the sesame dressing. Simple as that. smile

AIR FRIED WONTONS – MUSHROOM ONION CHEESE RM7.90
Now we have arrived to our main protagonists! Their famous wontons!
We chose this flavour as it was highly recommended by the staff. We suspect that it’s one of the most popular choice there since I have been noticing this items popping up in the blogosphere pretty often. True enough, the wonton actually lives up to its popularity. The thin wonton skin is fried to a perfect crisp and best of all, it doesn’t feel oily, leaving behind a very pleasant texture in your mouth. The Mushroom Onion Cheese is a great combination, bursting with flavours and with the right amount of cheese to keep the wontons juicy. For a person who doesn’t enjoy cheese much, the wonton feels and tastes just right to me, definitely something I would return for when I am craving some delicious wontons. Pricing at around RM1.30 for each wonton, I would say that it’s pretty worth they are pretty generous with the size and filling.

AIR FRIED WONTONS – BANANA CHOCOLATE RM7.90
For the second serving, we tried out something sweet. I don’t usually have my wontons sweet, it’s just not a common thing so I am pretty reluctant about this. After I have tried this though, I must say that I never regret my decision. The chocolate tastes just right with banana as always, and it’s mildly sweet just enough to tease your taste buds and leave you craving for more. Ya, it’s good, I have definitely enjoyed them.

Overall, the concept behind this business is really interesting, I mean, how they are just selling wontons and look how far they have come! The quality and concept are definitely there and I am sure with the right marketing, this business could go a long way. I am definitely returning here for my wontons craving in the future and since they have so many other flavours, I can’t wait to try them all! Hopefully the next time I come back, the quality will be maintained because to me, if you can’t keep the consistency in your food quality, you will lose customers. So all the best Little Wontons! You can definitely go far!

Kansas City Steak & Ribs is situated at a humble corner in the up and coming Setia Walk, Puchong. It takes a while to find the restaurant as it’s located on the first floor, you have to climb the stairs yes, and with the complicated building layout, it could take a while to find it unless you are pretty familiar with the place.

KANSAS SAMPLER – RM35.90
We order the Kansas Sampler which consist of most of the available appetizers in the menu. The items are Fried BBQ Wings, Potato Skin, Squid Rings and Sausages to replace one of the unavailable items, I believe it was shrimps.
Here I am going to be blunt, there’s nothing great for Kansas Sampler, so unless you are eating in group and have people to share the plate with, don’t bother ordering it because for the price you pay, it doesn’t seem to be worth it. Your alternative would be to go for the single order.

PORK RIBS FULL RACK KANSAS FLAMING SAUCE – RM59.90
This pork rib is so huge that it could easily feed 4 grown men! We went in a group of four and we couldn’t finish it. I must say that I am disappointed with the sauce as it wasn’t even flaming as it claims to be slightly spicy. It feels like normal BBQ sauce honestly and despite the huge size, the meat is kinda overcooked? It was a very difficult and messy task for us to eat the ribs not because of its size but the meat was so hard to chew on. I have had other pork ribs from other joints and they were never like this. Sadly, we weren’t impressed with the taste apart from the size.

KANSAS CITY HICKORY BURGER – RM29.90
The burger that arrived last however saved our day! It was a pleasant surprise as just when we were kinda disappointed with the overall food quality so this dish definitely emerged as the hero that rescued the day! We enjoyed the fulfilling pork patty, just look at how thick it is and combined with the savory fried bacon, you could literally smell the awesome fragrance of the burger just immediately they brought it out from the kitchen; not forgetting the must-have melted cheese to make everything perfect.

PACIFIC SALAD – RM14.90
Pacific Salad is somewhat special; the dressing is a mixture of some peanut sauce, and probably thai chilli sauce as well? While it was a good side to complement all the other meaty dishes, my only complaint is that they could have chosen fresher vegetables.
Overall, my dining experience in Kansas City Steak & Ribs is pretty disappointing. There is a lot of room for improvement and since we didn’t pay full price all the items thanks to their on-going promotion in Groupon, I have no further comments but it was still a good place to try out and who knows your taste bud might find it delicious or that they have improved? Do let me know then! So if you are living somewhere near, go ahead and check it out!
However, to ensure customers’ loyalty and their revisit, it would be great if they could improve food quality instead of compromising on it just because they are doing a half price promotion. Doing promotion can help you to gain new customers to try out the quality food, but if it’s not memorable and tastefully done, customers may be reluctant to return considering the fact that they have pay full prices in the future.

El Cerdo is a spanish word, and it means PORK. So it’s easy to guess that El Cerdo @ Changkat Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur specialise in pork dishes, even their tagline “Nose to tail eating” tells you that much; that they don’t waste any parts and they have dishes just for them.

Upon entering, we were served with a basket of bread and some spreads. As you have probably guessed, the spread is made from pork, we have no idea which parts, but it tasted wonderfully good. We had one or two servings of these before the other dishes we ordered came along. It was complimentary.

Previously when we visited The Steakhouse @ Changkat Bukit Bintang, operates by the same company, we thoroughly enjoyed their Caesar’s Salad, in fact I commented that it was one of the best I have had thus far. Not wanting to miss the chance of savouring the deliciously fresh appetizer, we ordered this dish again. Surprisingly, they tasted slightly different, perhaps because of the different toppings used? We weren’t sure, as fresh as this dish went, we were kinda disappointed that it didn’t live up to our expectations, like certain things were missing to prevent us from saying “Damn, it’s GOOD!”.

We were so excited when this dish came sizzling hot. The fragrant itself was so appetizing that we couldn’t wait to plunge onto them, except that we had to capture the glory first! The first bite was really memorable, that’s because the outer bacon roll that’s been fried to perfection was literally a masterpiece itself, I mean who could resist bacons! (Don’t forget to dip into the tartar sauce too!) The inner part, where all the fats were; was less palatable. I wasn’t used to the texture and found it sleazy. I had to separate them away in the end because I couldn’t stomach it.

Grilled to perfection on the outside; tender and juicy on the inside; each bite into the pork shoulder feels like an aromatic therapy itself! I especially love to have them together with the mashed potatoes. The taste blend so well you could feel every inch of the meat bursting with all sweet-scented spices used to marinate this. All the long hours taken just to make sure the meat is well seasoned is worth it in the end.

Soft, juicy, delectable ribs? Tastily sweet and cutely chopped potatoes? And we have yummy grilled pepper salad too? What! It’s marinated with some exquisite whisky? This gourmet, delicately prepared just for your pleasure, we can’t resist it, nope! So forget about saving up your money as this treat will make your penny worthwhile. ;)

To be honest, this tasted like an ordinary bolognese with extra cheese. The pork shoulder ham was really nice though, the meat was tender and easy to the mouth. I wouldn’t say that this dish was awesomely good, but it was still pretty fine, nothing to complain about.

Ever since Baskins Robbins removed Rum & Raisin from their menu, it’s pretty hard to find one that’s decent. At El Cerdo however, they make sure that the quality of their food is top notch and as a result, you get this heavenly dessert. The scrumptious ice-cream is irresistible; once in the lips, you couldn’t stop digging in for more and more. This is definitely one of the best Rum & Raisin I have ever come across and on top of that, they are so generous with their portion. You could totally share this plate with 4 people or more without needing to control your intakes much. ;)
Oh, don’t get me started on the fluffy pancakes, they compliment each other so well. I would definitely return just because they serve this dessert.

One of the disturbing thing that I must mention is that I feel like I have entered a pig morgue. I understand that El Cerdo means PIG, and their main dishes are all pork, but seriously, with all the cute, adorable pigs and piglets as decorations, staring down at you while you are munching away your food which could only be made from the sacrifice of some innocent pigs’ lives which probably haven’t lived even up to a month?… I am not sure, but I find it extremely disturbing…\
I have no doubt when it comes to the quality of food served by El Cerdo, after all it’s one of the higher end restaurants around the area. I have enjoyed most of the dishes and felt that even though the prices stated in the menu could blow one’s mind away in the first glance, you wouldn’t feel so much of the money pain after the food comes as they are pretty generous in their portions and not forgetting the quality and taste, so the money you pay for is pretty worth it.

Ocea Seafood @ Tanjung Sepat OK Jan 27, 2014

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

On the morning of the second day, we went to try out Ocean Seafood. Much to our dismay, they ran out of few types of fishes and introduced us to this Grouper (Dragon Tiger Grouper something) that cost us RM50 for one small fish! Well, it’s not exactly that small but I supposed it was puny for its species. I have heard of this species before and knew that it has always been expensive… We ordered anyways and thoroughly burnt our pocket.

Generally in terms of food, Ocean Seafood seemed to be slightly better in taste and the crabmeat tofu was pretty special, like shark fin soup. Of course there wasn’t any shark fin inside, I have sworn off it long time ago. Apart from that, it was really an ordinary meal to me. And apart from the fish, everything else was priced reasonably.

The expensive soya steamed grouper. RM52
The meat was definitely very fresh, didn’t taste like it had been frozen before.

Salted Egg Fried Mantis Prawn. RM14

This was actually tofu mashed with crab meats, like shark-fin soup style but no worries, no fins involved. RM16

Senjyu @ Bangsar Village II OK Dec 11, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Business Dining

Senjyu has been in the Japanese dining market for quite a long time. If my memory doesn’t fail me, I remember visiting one of the outlets in Sunway Pyramid a long time ago. That specific outlet has closed down though. This time around, we snatched some deals from Living Social and headed over to the Bangsar Village II’s outlet.

Upon entering, you will be greeted with hanging paper birds, just as the restaurant name implies. You will also see a row of chefs, ready to serve you the fresh sashimi readily displayed inside the glass compartment.

Senjyu is not casual dining restaurant. They spare no expenses on their decorations. There is a sense of exquisite and luxury. it’s definitely targeting above upper-medium classes, looking their menu prices.

Chicken Katsu Curry Rice RM18.00

Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, the flawless chicken is probably the only thing that elevates this dish from the slightly disappointing curry gravy which is kinda bland and lacking individuality in my liking. It feels like you could easily get the instant gravy package off the grocery shelves and maybe with some extra twist, you could make it better than this.

Salmon Mentayaki RM24.00

This is a dish which I will definitely order whenever I am dining in a Japanese Restaurant. The version in Senjyu is overly thick with Mayo. I couldn’t few the saltiness of Cod Roe. The salmon however is fresh though and a bite onto the flesh, you could feel the freshness bursting happily inside together with its juiciness! Slightly disappointed with the taste but I guess I am just overly used to the version from my favorite Japanese Restaurant (to be revealed soon!)

Kaisen Nama Yaki RM22.00

One of their featured products at the time of our visit. I tasted more grease from the fried maki on the bottom than the Unagi on the top.

Soft Shell Crab Temaki RM28.00

Pretty ordinary.

Seafood Pancake RM25+ [a dish that escapes my memory!]

This dish is like the usual Okonomiyaki except that it’s stuffed with seafood. The oyster they add in is huge! That is a very generous amount but unfortunately it turns entirely dish smells like oysters even with all the generous mayo dressing and fish flakes.

Lavendar Parfait RM16.00

There’s nothing much to say about this Lavendar Parfait, I wish they have a fresher instead of an overly frozen ice cream that kills all the taste already.

Senjyu is slightly disappointing experience for us. With prices this high we expected a better quality of food. The sashimi however, which we did not order for some reasons, could be the sole reasons why they have survived this long. Probably whatever lacking in their cooked dishes, they make up for it with their fresh ingredients and their quick services. Maybe next time I will visit again, and then I will remember to order their sashimi.
