Perfect Family Dinner Smile Dec 17, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

t was a family dinner and I wanted to go to this famous hawker stall in Jinjang, an area in Kuala Lumpur that I seldom step foot on.

Long Grilled Fish Seafood Restaurant is the name to look for, but it is actually an open-air food stall operating on the roadside a.k.a. dai pai dong in Cantonese. They are quite famous for seafood especially crabs, but we skipped that as we wanted something else.

Creamy butter Japanese snail came first; the snail was crunchy, the flavourful white cream immediately enriched my taste buds and satisfied my belly.

The Nyonya squid was sweet, sour and spicy, the pineapple-based sauce was very refreshing.

Fish duo is fish served in two flavours, a portion to steam while the other to fry and top with mild spicy creamy sauce and they were both equally good. *drooling*

You can find more about what have we ordered at Relish by Rae http://relishbyrae.blogspot.com/2013/11/restaurant-style-hawker-stall-at-long.html

The total damage was about RM 260, not too bad huh? However, considering dining in a hawker stall, the damage is slightly higher than the others and the average can go more than RM 40 per pax. If you were tempted to order the king prawn, it could cost you about RM 30 per piece. Having said that, the food is actually worth every penny in my humble opinion, but you just have to bear with the not so fantastic ambience, particularly you might get your feet soak wet sitting outside under the tent if it rains.

Great Caffeine Fix Smile Dec 18, 2013

Walking in the café, there are many espresso makers and grinder lining up on my right side. And there is an island in front of us that we can sit on, but we chose the little lounge sofa on the left side that looks much more comfortable. We were lucky to get the chance to explore the espresso makers, beans and tools in the café a little since there was barely any customer around. If you are looking for an espresso maker or grinder for your home or office, you may want to drop by HotShots as they carry several good one here.

Latte is good, my all time favourite.

The hot fluffy raisin scone was good! It is served with premium jam, strawberries and thickened cream. I like the cranberries that are sprinkled on the plate. The scone was warm and soft, it smelled good, too.

Food hunting at Setia Walk Puchong, which is full of eateries, is unquestionably a fun thing to do.

Absolute Viet is another great place to fix your craving for Vietnamese food and the best thing about this Vietnamese restaurant is you pay a little for a pleasant atmosphere and good food. Isn’t that great?

They serve a few signature Vietnamese drinks like lemongrass and drip coffee, both are good, but I had Jasmine tea this rainy evening as I needed a hot drink to warm me up. It came with a little tea pot and cup set and being a miniature collector, I just can’t resist anything that’s small and cute.

A big surprise I found in Absolute Viet when I see they serve tomato noodle soup! Frankly, that is the main reason we give it a try the first time we walked into this restaurant. That reminds me of my Vietnamese friend making me an authentic Vietnamese noodles with plenty of crab meat in tomato soup while I was visiting her in the United States, and it is very difficult to find a Vietnamese restaurant serving this since I return. At the price of only RM 9.90, I find it has similar taste of what I called the original, it is a little sour and mild in spiciness. I’m sure the taste would be further enhanced if they could replace the chicken with seafood (and that for sure will change the price as well); still it’s a very good and appetizing noodle soup, also my all-time favourite.

We also ordered the popular lemongrass pork chop with rice and it didn’t disappoint us as the pork was tender, juicy, the taste and smell was good as they put really good portion of lemongrass and seasoning in marinating it. I think it costs about RM 13.90 for this and that’s reasonable.

It is always satisfying dining at Absolute Viet for the mouth-watering side dishes and scrumptious main course at very affordable price. A simple meal with 2 healthy main course and drinks would probably be around RM 30 or less, I call that an affordable damage especially when we are offered such comfortable, air-conditioned setting with music and pleasant service. This was the third visit to Absolute Viet and I know I am happy to be their regular customer.

Savouring at the Nosh Bangsar Smile Nov 27, 2013

Here's the afternoon tea set for two at RM 52. It came with a 3-tier stand filled with green tea cakes, banana cakes, chocolate pastries, freshly baked scones, sandwiches and canapé, served with coffee or tea at your preference. I love all the sweet treats so much, particularly the green tea and banana cakes. They are not too sweet, flavourful and just simply delicious!
