Whenever I go on a roadtrip to Malacca, Nadeje's mille crepe is always on top of my to-eat list. Their fluffy, melt-in-the-mouth , ultra-thin layers of mille crepe has won the heart of many.

Now, Nadeje has three branches across Klang Valley, one at Three Two Square Petaling Jaya, Sunway Giza Kota Damansara and the latest branch at 1 Utama! Now I know where would be my favourite spot for a coffee & cake break whenever I am tired from shopping at 1 Utama , or to take away a delightful snack to savor at home!

Nadeje 1 Utama is located at Ground Floor Old Wing, just right in front of Jusco.

My personal recommendation would be the Rum & Raisin and Tiramisu. The rum & raisin has a delightful sophisticated taste, with a sweetness that is just alright. The rum complements the soft and fluffy mille crepe perfectly, and the taste of rum was not overpowering. The addition of raisins certainly adds texture and delightful burst of sweetness to the lovely piece of cake!

Tiramisu features a fine blend of aromatic coffee taste with a tinge of bitterness, which balances off perfectly with the sweet and fluffy cream. A must-order for Tiramisu lovers!

Toridoki, Desa Sri Hartamas  Smile Nov 06, 2015

A new Japanese restaurant is in town! Tori Doki, a Japanese restaurant specializing in Yakitori has invaded Sri Hartamas since July 2015.

Hailing all the way from Japan, Tori Doki is already well-established among the locals in Japan, with two branches located in central Tokyo. The current branch in Sri Hartamas is currently Tori Doki's first branch overseas!

What is Yakitori? Yakitori basically translates as grilled chicken skewers and are made from chicken meat of all different parts - breast, thighs, skin, liver, soft bone, heart and others innards. The chicken skewers are then grilled over the charcoal fire till perfection.

Tori Doki strives to serve authentic & quality yakitori in KL. All yakitori are prepared fresh daily to ensure the quality of food served is uphold.

At Tori Doki, customers can experience an authentic Japanese dining experience - I was greeted by the staffs Japanese style, with energetic shouts from the kitchen crew and a polite bow followed by "Irrasshaimase" (Welcome! In Japanese) by the kimono-clads server. Patrons can choose to dine in at the bar area, or the traditional tatami seating

Once you're seated , you'll be handed a cold wet towel & a FOC appetizer! How great is that smile

Otoshi (Appetizer of the Day): Yasai Shiraae FOC

The Otoshi served here at Toridoki rotates daily. I was served with Yasai Shiraae, a simple yet memorable cold vegetable salad dish with homemade peanut sauce dressing.

Konsai Salad

Root's vegetable salad.: Roasted pumpkin, sweet potato, carrots, lotus root, broccoli drizzled with tangy caesar sauce. Topped with shredded cheese, grated fresh upon serving.

I have to admit, the Konsai Salad served here was one of the most enjoyable salad I've ever had. All my favourite roasted roots vegetables in a dish!

Nagaimo Garlic Butter RM12

Japanese yam with garlic & butter fried till golden crunch perfection. Tad oily, but nevertheless a wonderful dish to snack on.

Sunagimo Ahijyo RM18

Chicken gizzard cooked with eight kinds of vegetables and olive oil served in hot plate. Served with a side of toasted french baguette.

Teba Age RM10

Deep fried chicken wings marinated with soy sauce.

Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside! I loved how well-flavoured the chicken wings were! Savoury with a slightly sweet touch, with a lovely crunchy texture.

Various grilled skewers.

From top: Toridoki RM8, Negima RM5 and Tsukune RM11

My favourite would be the Tori Doki: Tori Doki's signature yakitori. Chicken breast wrapped with chicken thigh, grilled till perfection. Juicy, tender with an irresistible smoky BBQ taste. Contrary to popular beliefs that breast meat tends to have a drier texture, the Tori Doki was surprisingly really tender & juicy.

The Tsukune (meatball) is made by blending different parts of chicken meat and marinating with sweet sauce. Negima features grilled chicken thigh & leek. The yakitori were all executed very well, probably one of the best yakitoris in town!

Tori Maruyaki RM45

Roasted whole chicken marinated with red wine, salt, pepper, sesame oil for 24 hours. Served with Bamboo Salt, Chili Sauce & Ponzu sauce.

Another signature dish in Tori Doki - The chicken was so tender & flavourful I could just eat it on its own without any condiments! Do allow 45 minutes to 1 hour cooking time. Fret not, as you can drop them a call in advance to reduce your wait time.

The friendly server will "dissect" the chicken for you, so just sit back, relax, and enjoy the "show" smile

Dashimaki Tamago RM14

Japanese omelette. A simple yet delightful dish that is prepared fresh upon ordering.

Cheese Yaki Onigiri RM12

Grilled Oigiri (Rice Balls) stuffed with Camembert cheese. Topped with generous amount of cheese powder & bonito flakes. Imagine sinking your teeth into the slightly crisps crust of the grilled rice ball, infused with savoury soy sauce, then fluffy layer of rice & creamy, hot melted Camembert cheese. Mhhhhmmmm

Alternatively, you can opt for the regular Yaki Onigiri for RM10.

Houjicha Pudding RM10

A refreshing dessert that is not too heavy on the palate, not too sweet nor cloying, with a hint of aromatic houjicha taste to balance it off. Yum!

Verdict: Really good yakitori & unconventional Japanese dishes! Service was top notch and the atmosphere was pleasant too smile

A friend once asked me, "If you were to choose ONE and only ONE type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what cuisine would it be?"

"Japanese cuisine," I answered.

I'm always on the prowl for good Japanese restaurants. A four months old Japanese restaurant, Koyaku Japanese Dining & Grill located at Faber Tower Taman Desa, caught my attention as it was shortlisted for the Time Out KL Food Awards 2015 for Best New Restaurant.

Koyaku means "little house" in Japanese. Koyaku Japanese Dining & Grill emphasize on serving only fresh and quality food. All dishes are prepared using the original and best ingredients, all air-flown from Japan.

I was instantly mesmerized by the interior of Koyaku. The decor at Koyaku was creative & eco-friendly- most of the decor are crafted using recycled materials such as recycled cardboard boxes from Japan, old fans, old toys which incorporate a modern, funky Japanese vibes without loosing its traditional aesthetic value.

Another highlight of Koyaku: life-size Astro Boy action figure! Customers can even make their own Umeshu (Japan liqueur made out of ume) here at Koyaku!Seasonal Japanese fresh produce here at Koyaku!

Besides the ala-carte menu, Koyaku offers customers a special Omakase dining experience. I was really fortunate to be able to try out Koyaku's Omakase menu. Omakase is a Japanese phrase that means "I'll leave it to you".

Here's an explanation of Omakase dining from Wikipedia!

The expression is used at sushi restaurants to leave the selection to the chef. It differs from ordering à la carte. The chef will generally present a series of plates, beginning with the lightest fare and proceeding to the heaviest, richest dishes. The phrase is not exclusive to service of raw fish with rice, and can incorporate grilling, simmering, or other cooking techniques as well. The term omakase is not restricted to flesh, nor to sequential banquets. It can be used generally to mean any selection of dishes prepared at the chef's discretion comprising a meal, including strict vegan.
Koyaku's talented chef will tailor your meal according to your personal taste preference, dietary preferences, your budget & the season. Omakase dining offers the chef the choice of what to serve you based on what he feels best represents his skills, while using the freshest fish that is available today. You'll be surprised by the chef's innovative and creativity in producing the best dish to the table.

Pricing for Omakase menu starts from RM150, depending on the type of dish served. The pricing is decided beforehand based on the customers' preferences.

Ankimo (Monkfish liver) with citrus sauce, cavair and chili radish, sea snail, sweet potato chips and Gingko

Kampachi

The sashimis are served alongside with fresh wasabi, pickled ginger, wasabi, as well as seaweed & radish.

Aori Ika

Salmon Belly topped with Ikura

Botan Ebi topped with Hokkaido Sea Urchin

Shimaji

Three times more expensive than

Lightly Seared Hokkaido Scallop

Blue Fin Tuna

Salmon Aburi

Hard boiled eggs topped with rice,Ikura, fresh wasabi and curry flakes

Soft Shell Crab & Avocado Roll topped with Ebiko

Unagi with Foie Gras coated with breadcrumbs, deep fried into perfection. Served with Tonkatsu sauce.

Kyoho Grape

We were really lucky as Kyoho grapes were in season! This is by far the best grapes I've ever tasted- sweet, plump, juicy with a wonderful red wine taste.

I was really impressed by the quality & freshness of food served at Koyaku. Everything was simply fantastic! The sushi chef was friendly and informative- explaining to us about the dishes served, teaching us ways to enjoy our food the same way the Japanese do.

Anticipation and excitement prevails as the experienced sushi chef prepare the next dish right before our eyes. We "ooohhh" & "aaah" in awe watching the chef in action. It was really exciting, guessing what dish will be served next. We didn't know what to expect but every dish far exceeds my expectation!

Prior reservation is compulsory for the Omakase menu. Do make your reservations early to avoid disappointment!
