Ecole P, a new addition to the impossible-to-find-parking-bro Damansara Uptown. Situated on the first floor of one of the shop lots there, Ecole P is an evocative cafe that sets to make you walk down memory lane.... Why? Read on...

I heard about this cafe from one of my friend studying Culinary Arts in Taylor's University. Apparently Ecole P is opened by one of the lecturers there! We were quite keen on visiting this cafe and finally planned to have lunch together at Ecole P along with a few friends.

Walk up the flight of stairs, and you'll be greeted by a what a kid would call, nightmare-

Yes, this little cafe has its nostalgia theme of PRIMARY SCHOOL!

We were then handed a brown exercise book to do our homework, of ordering our food.

Yes, even the fonts are so kiddy-like! Ecole P serves breakfast, healthy snack, soups & main courses such as spaghetti & chicken chop. The choices are quite limited for now as Ecole P is still the new kid of the block (:

Breaky Burger RM12.90
Poached Eggs topped with Hollandaise Sauce & Ham on a buttered & toasted burger bun, served with a side of salad
Poached eggs test- CHECKED! smile
The salad was really refreshing, with its tangy dressing. What made it special, is the hawthorn flakes thrown on it. The addition hawthorn flakes not only gives the salad a pleasantly sourish aftertaste, but also a sentimental value into it :")
The burger was wonderful- the aromatic buttered bun, spilled egg yolk & Hollandaise sauce just came together so perfectly. Although you might have to reconsider ordering this for your lunch if you are someone with a huge appetite.

Spending per head: Approximately RM15

Delicious Pork Burger Smile Jan 18, 2014

Boyfriend & I were craving for burgers to make up for the large amount of calorie burned in the day time, and we wanted to try out something new. A simple google search brought us to this new burger joint located in the foodie-place-saturated, SS15.

Cowboy Burger! Cowboy Burger is located at the same row as Home Made Fish Head Noodle Shop (Diagonally Opposite Gastro Cafe). It was easy to be spot thanks to its bright red signage.

The restaurant was really dimly lit, giving it a mysterious feel, I didn't know what to expect (other than burgers lol). It was 9pm but the cafe was abuzz with activities. We decided to sit at one of the tall round table as it sort of reminds me of a saloon bar in a cowboy movie =D. The interior was rather simple & minimal, with some Western Cowboy elements incorporated into it.

Like the walls- Wanted sign & wooden plank wall wallpaper plastered all over it. Perhaps it's for the shop to paste the faces of people who attempted to skip the bill? =b

And their little Maneki Neko, wearing an oversize cowboy hat.

Pork Burgers, Beef Burgers, Chicken Burgers, and even Vegetarian Burgers! The myriad selection of burgers was impressive! Besides that if burgers aren't your "thing" you could order the hot dogs or main dishes such as pasta, fish & chips & so much more!

All their burgers come with a side of French Fries & Salad! =)

Mushroom Piggy Burger RM14.80
Char-grilled Pork Patties topped with melted Cheddar, sauteed mushrooms & creamy mushroom sauce.

Just look at the generous toppings of the burger! I was "forced" to use the cutleries as it'd be too messy if I used my hands.

I started off from the mushroom. The mushroom were perfectly sauteed in cream sauce. Creamy & juicy, I thought that the mushroom could be a perfect side dish on its own.
Further dissection leads to the juicy & well-seasoned pork patty. Infused with the melted cheddar & creamy mushroom sauce, the patty was literally bursting with flavour.

Their Thick-Cut Fries, were superb. It was perfectly seasoned with herbs & spice. It was really addictive, and I actually finished all the fries, which was something not so common for me, unless the fries are super good OR its burger lab's.

However, the fries were tad salty. We told the boss about it when he asked for our feedback. He apologized sincerely and explained that they tossed their fries for seasoning in the same bowl for the whole night so the saltiness got a little too intense at the end of the night.

Their homemade orange sauce deserves a credit too. It was actually Wasabi Mayo sauce! The taste of wasabi, infused with the tangy mayo, and furthered seasoned with herbs & spice, minus the after effect of "spiciness-rushing-to-nose". The sauce complements the fries perfectly and I finished it till the very last drop =)

Signature Piggy Burger RM18.80
Char-grilled Pork Patty, topped with Natural Cheddar Cheese, Fried Eggs, Home-made Black Pepper Bacon, Grilled Tomatoes, Leafy Greens & drenched in their cowboy classic sauce.

One word. AMAZING.

For the price paid, I think this burger was really worth it as the ingredients & topping were really generous. The condiments & fillings just came together so perfectly. One bite and I was mesmerized. The chewy & savoury bacon, the juicy pork patty infused with creamy cheddar & their signature sauce, awesome fried egg, and leafy green to keep the whole burger well-balanced- this burger is the bomb.

Overall Rating: 8/10
Their Pork Patty is certainly one of the best I've ever tried. Service was pleasant & inviting, the waiters & boss always have their smiles on. Cowboy Burger is definitely a place where I'd be returning soon!

Hipster Cafe OK Jan 16, 2014

With cafe being the latest food fad nowadays, it is not surprising to see so many new cafe popping up in the Klang Valley. Each has their own unique theme & style, got their own pattern here pattern there, you know lah.

So I was quite excited when I stumbled upon a few nice shots in instagram taken in Wood & Steel Cafe. Wood & Steel Cafe is a new hipster cafe, located in the hipster corner of The Strand, Kota Damansara. It took me a while to locate this cafe as I was just blindly following the mental image of the map I memorized in my head.

Walk into Wood & Steel, and you'll instantly feel as if you have time-traveled to the 70s with the vintage & retro decorations. Red bricks wall, with quirky knick-knacks & decorative item placed on the wooden shelving units & the wooden furniture, being shine upon the warm lights, it hit me that I am going to stay at this place for a while.

All those leather bags/casing & notebooks displayed on the rack is actually for sale too! Pretty vintage & cool but the price is a little too steep for me sad If you pay attention you'll notice that their tables & chairs have price tag attached to them too! Apparently most of the things in this cafe is for sale! (:

Wood & Steel cafe is a self-service cafe where you have to make your order & payment at the counter. So yay for nett price on menu smile

Our food arrived promptly upon ordering.

Hot Chocolate RM9
I was really impressed with the coffee art which was so beautifully done. However, taste wise, it was really disappointing. The hot chocolate tasted rather diluted & powdery, like a 3-in-1 drink =(

Breakfast in Bed RM9
Poached Egg & Chicken Ham on a bruschetta, topped with Hollandaise sauce & served with a side of greens
The eggs were perfectly poached as the golden yolk flowed out beautifully as we poke through the eggs with a knife. However, this dish does taste a little odd as it was served cold to us. I am not sure whether the dish was supposed to be served cold or it was left out too long as we didn't get clarifications from the waiter. My partner didn't really fancy the dish as she prefer to have it warm.

Chicken & Cheese Bruschetta RM15
Chicken Chunks & Cheese on toasted Bruschetta
The bruschetta was nice & crunchy. The tender & succulent chicken pieces, along with the hot molten cheese tasted a lot like a pizza, minusing the jelak-ness smile Recommended!

Overall Rating: 6.5
While the food served wasn't really memorable, the service at the cafe was really pleasant & welcoming (: When I asked the staffs for the WiFi password, they replied me with a cheeky face saying "nowifihere". Geddit? (: The staffs was also really attentive & friendly (: The environment was really alluring, relaxing & soothing. I could stay there the whole day.

Wood & Steel Cafe has revamped their menu recently I think, judging from the menu they posted in Living Social. Hopefully the quality of food has been improved too as Wood & Steel cafe has a fairly great potential.

Photography. It captures moments, & create an everlasting memory. Photography is certainly one of the most common hobbies nowadays, and various photography shops have been emerging in every nook and cranny in the Klang Valley to quench the thirst of photography enthusiast. Take this shop selling polaroid camera in Sunway Pyramid Asian Avenue for example. Well, the shop has a cafe cum camera workshop at Kota Damansara !

Being a food junkie & a photography wannabe, I dragged a friend to try out this cafe on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Situated on the first & second floor of one of the shop lots in Kota Damansara, Photo Craft The Cafe curbs their patrons hunger pangs on the first floor, while the second floor is tailored to cater photography enthusiast.

As you walk up the stairs, random lomo snapshots were seen hanging around, ushering you up the stairs. One will certainly be delighted as you step into the shop. The ambient, the decorations, what's there not to love in this cafe?

A plant growing inside a light bulb, surviving by the light source emitted

Cappuccino RM9.90
The cappuccino was decent. Though not really remarkable, it tasted fine for me and definitely no complains.

Photography enthusiast will definitely be pleased- Polaroid Cameras, accessories, Camera pouchs & so much more!

Overall, Photocrafts is a good place to hang out, especially for those who are in to photography, or one who appreciates lovely decorations. Can't really give a rating as a whole as I'd only tried their coffee.

Favourite Coffee Place  Smile Jan 16, 2014

Ahhhh....espressolab. My first love. (In Coffee). It was love at first sight when my dad brought me to one of their pioneer outlets at e@Curve. I could still remember my feeling when I had my first sip of espressolab's coffee vividly.

Fast forward to the present, espressolab has expanded with new outlets spanning across leading shopping malls in Klang Valley. And the nearest lab to my house is located conveniently in Empire Shopping Gallery.

Their little makeshift store is located on the second floor, in between Madam Kwan & Sasa. It is almost impossible to miss it as you'll be greeted with an aromatic whiff of coffee smell as you go up the escalator from the first to the second floor.

Espressolab simple & minimalist sitting area- you get to choose to sit on the comfy sofas or the wooden chairs. Like other coffee place, espressolab practices the self-service culture.

Mocha RM14 (after discount RM11.20)
It's quite a rare case for me to go for a cup of Mocha, as I am more of a Americano/Cappuccino person. Mocha is my emergency calm-me-down drink whenever I'm in a bad mood.

The chocolate was rich & intense, sweetness just right, not too sweet nor not too bland. Foam was frothy & smooth. Coffee was perfect.
I'm sold.
