Normal Shao La OK Mar 26, 2014

The signature dish in Cho Yok Weng is the Pi Pa Duck. Unlike normal roasted duck where the bird is roasted in whole, preparation of Pi Pa Duck allows more moisture and fat to drip out in the process.
Unfortunately, this Pi Pa Duck does not strike a chord with our palate because it is simply too dry. The meat is too tough as most fat has been removed. The saving grace is that the skin has a light welcoming crisp.

The Ham & Bacon Sandwich is served alongside some wheat biscuits and a small bowl of diced apple salad.
The sandwich is made using brown bread and filled with slices of bacon, ham, lettuce leaves, tomato slices and mayonnaise. The size is very small; I wonder why the serving is not something more reasonable.

At the moment, the menu is very limited. The food served are mostly bread and sandwiches. Nevertheless, they are reasonably price for a place like Straits Quay.

I decided to go with Set 1. The set consists of a piece of Roti Bakar, 2 Soft Boiled Eggs and a drink.

The Roti Bakar flavor is the classic "Kaya & Butter". Time after time, I still feel that this is the best spread for toasted bread. The bread is toasted just about right, having a slight crisp on the surface yet moist and soft in the middle. The creamy kaya and butter contribute to the enjoyment of the Roti Bakar.

From the "Massive Combo" section of the menu, I ordered the Chicken, Lamb & Fish. Quite often in Western restaurants, I try go for different types of meat to get an all-round feeling of the grilling department.

The T-bone lamb is grilled to medium as requested. It has a strong meaty flavor hallmark of good mutton grill. However, it is more oily than necessary, which does not bode well to my palate.

Residents of Tanjung Bungah are fortunate to have a nice pisang goreng stall in their area. Named Penang Tanjung Bungah Goreng Pisang, it operates at the back of a van parked beside the main road.

The banana fritters are coated with a layer of golden crispy batter, allowing the bananas inside to remain hot even though the exterior has cooled somewhat. The irresistibly-delicious batter is a trade secret of this stall. No wonder this stall remains popular over the years!
