Meet Fresh Taiwanese Desserts Smile Jul 20, 2012

Categories : Taiwanese | Juices / Bubble Tea / Tea / Yogurt | Desserts

I used to eat Snowflakes' Taiwanese Desserts only in KL. This is my first visit to Meet Fresh Penang and I'm glad that it did not disappoint me. My friends and I were excited to try their desserts. Taro Ball is always my favorite. I ordered the Meet Fresh Signature Herb Jelly. It is topped with the yam ice-cream and Taro Balls. It tasted just nice with the milk.

I'm surprised with the taste. It is not too sweet and it matches well with the Taro Balls. The taro balls were chewy. I like the desserts there because they are all freshly made. The environment is also good. It is surely suitable for gathering and yum cha session. Many people hang around here after their dinner. I would recommend you all to try this dish as it is their signature dish as well! smile

Lunch at Tappers Cafe Smile Jul 09, 2012

I went to Tappers Cafe yesterday with my boyfriend. This is our first time here. I had a hard time looking for the shop! I asked my friend's opinion before coming this shop. She told me that the food is nice and cheap with great environment. The shop is situated on the G floor of Block D. If you look from outside of the Jaya One building, you would not be able to see the shop. You need to take the escalator near Sushi King to go up to G floor. Or you may take the stairs behind Old Town White Coffee. It is not easy to find and their signboard is not big enough for us to notice.

I went in the shop and have a quick look of the environment and decided to sit outside without air-conditioner. Although the weather was hot, but the temperature of sitting outside is still acceptable. I have ordered the Soya based Chicken Rice and the Carbonara Spaghetti. All this two meal comes in set with a drink. On Sunday, you can even have their breakfast set till 2pm. The price of the food is reasonable too!

Drink : Honey Lemon! The drink was refreshing and the honey was thick enough but not too sweet. It was nice!

I like this rice. It tasted just nice. I thought it will be very salty but it was not! The chicken served is very big portion (Quarter chicken). The chicken's texture is soft and easy to cut. I was given spoon and fork but I did not have problem in slicing it.

Carbonara Spaghetti. (RM12.90) with a drink

The spaghetti is not very big portion. However, I felt that the cream is too wet. I thought it should be a dried one. But the taste is not bad. My boyfriend likes it. It is served with Chicken Bacon.

The restaurant environment is relaxing and calm. I feel nice to dine at there. Their service was good. It is not as bad as what commented by some food reviewers which I have surveyed before I went. The shop has a white colour themed for their tables and chairs. It is suitable for fine dining. The set lunch is priced at RM10 - RM15. It is not expensive and comes with a drink. However, there is no desserts on their menu. I think they should serve some desserts too!

I would surely visit this shop again! smile

I brought my boyfriend for his first piece of Mille Crepe. I had my first one here too. This is my fourth time being here. smile I like to come here for their mille crepe. I used to think they serve great mille crepe. However, yesterday's experience was a bad one for me. They have just renovated their shop. The location of the shop is quite unexpected for everyone because it is at the downstairs of a block of flats. People would not expect there to have a fine dining restaurants. They serve western food and mille crepe. They are famous for their crepes.

Yesterday, I ordered a Vanilla mille crepe for my boyfriend to try. But I had bad experience as the mille crepe does not taste as I have used to it. I guess their fridge is too cold and the layers between the crepe actually consists of ice! This is my first time to have such taste after trying the crepes here for so many times. The ice caused the layers of the crepe to be hard to cut. It is not so easy to be sliced and the crepe tasted not really good. The texture has changed due to the ice. It is not as soft as it used to be. Hopefully this is the last time I encounter this. And I hope next time I won't taste this kind of experience again.

The restaurant has simple dining decorations. There were no air-conditioners and only fans are available. It will be a bit hot to dine here actually. One thing I like to come here is only for the crepes and not environment of course. I hope I will still come back here again and will not have that bad experience. Their western food served are a bit pricey to me as the location is not really nice.

I went to this shop with my colleague during lunch hours. They have many customers. But the place is spacious and suitable for group dining. We ordered Chicken Chop Rice and Nasi Kerabu Ayam Percik.

Nasi Kerabu Ayam Percik is nice. (RM9.90) The chicken given is very big and its greavy is rendang sauce. It tastes a bit spicy but it is sweet! We like this dish and will certainly come back again for it.

The Chicken Chop Rice (RM9.90) comes with an egg and with 3 choice of selection of sauce. We chose brown sauce. It is mushroom sauce with pepper. It is a bit spicy. The chicken chop is normal but the rice is small. Not very full after eating this. I don't recommended to try this.

Father's Day Celebration Smile Jun 18, 2012

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Hotel Dining

Spices Restaurant is located inside the Concorde Hotel. Situated right infront of the swimming pool of the hotel. The location is quiet and tranquil. The staffs were friendly. They served our needs very well. We went on a Saturday night and there was a pianist playing songs. The environment was romantic. smile You can also see the Petronas Twin Towers right above if you sit outside of the restaurants. Very good view.

First, the waitress served us the buns politely. Really fresh buns! Comes with garlic cheese and olive oil.

The staff refilled the basket once we finished the buns. smile They are very considerate!

Next, I shall introduce the appetizer. Appetizer served were 1. Salmon Tartar with Crispy Tatami and 2. Smoke Duck Breast, Grilled Vegetables, Feta Cheese and Raspberry Vinaigrette. [Photos referred to my blog link at the end of the post]

We don't like both dishes. The salmon tartar were too raw! Maybe we are used to cooked food and we don't like it. It tasted extremely weird. The smoke duck breast tasted okay at first but the more I eat, the more I feel not nice. I don't recommend both of this.

After the appetizer, we were served with soup. There were 2 soups served, which are Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup and French Onion Soup with Cheese Crouton. The mushroom soup as picture below tasted very nice. The ingredients were fresh and the taste of the soup is not very spicy and many many types of mushrooms inside. The French Onion Soup was not that good. Whole bowl of onions~ The soup was too little. And the taste was not really good.

The main course! We ordered 4 different one. Spaghetti Alio Olio with seafood. The seafood served were really fresh. Very big and fleshy prawns. Fresh and big scallops too! Other ingredients such as squids and mussels. This portion is very big, I cannot really finished it.

My sis's main course was Roasted Spring Chicken, Foie Gras, Garlic Cream and Ponzu Soy Sauce. This was quite nice. The setting of the food was very nice also. smile My sis likes it very much~ The square shaped thingy is the potato which were sliced and baked with cheese layer by layer. It looks like mille crepe cake.

My dad ate this Steam Halibut, Black Olive, Trio of Mushroom in Lemon Grass Nage. The western style of cooking steam fish is without ginger unlike the Chinese people. So, the fish tasted a bit weird, maybe because no ginger was used. My dad says, this costs RM100 per kg in the market! The Halibut was fresh.

There is still one more main course, which is Duck Confit with Braised Gobo, Porcini and Orange - Umeshu Glaze. It tasted so-so only. [Photos refer to my blog link at the end of the post]

Lastly, our desserts were served. We chose the Balsamic Strawberries with Gelato and Ginger Creme Brulee with seasonal Fresh Berry.

Balsamic Strawberries are me and my sis's favorite. The ice-cream served was very smooth and nice. Absolutely not ordinary Nestle's ice-cream.

The Ginger Creme Brulee with seasonal Fresh Berry tasted like egg tart~ Haha, But it was nice too. the top part tasted crispy.

The whole meal costs about RM280+ for 4 persons.

We also ordered 2 mocktails. Sky Love and Al Fresco. Al Fresco tasted like vitagen as it contains yogurt. I like this.

Overall comment, the food were nice and the service was excellent! And of course it is a bit pricey. But it is worthwhile for the price at such environment. smile
