I visited Gurney Driver Hawker Center again after 6 years and was craving for its food. So naturally I decided to drop by here for early dinner. I recalled an old uncle at the corner stall who cooked super yummy char koay teow back then. However I couldn't locate the stall anymore, so I decided any char koay teow stall would do. Though the sheer number of stalls and food options may seem overwhelming, do as the locals often do and simply opt for the stall with the longest queue (a good indicator
Finally... finally I got my char koay teow (RM6). Large portion with plenty of leftover for later. Large shrimps and tender chicken in it along with thick noodles and bean sprouts. However I felt that the flavors weren't quite there. I've had much tastier char koay teow than this one. But maybe it was just me, since I saw the long queue was still on and on and on...
Hawker centers are as pretentious as it gets and one of their charms is the chance they offer to meet locals going about their everyday affairs. Expect to share a communal table and take note of the table number, as you'll need it when you order your food.
The sheer variety of dishes always makes a trip to a hawker center a must for food aficionados. Perhaps the best way to choose from the multitudes of foods on offer is to simply do as the locals do, join the longest queue and dig in! Post
