The herbal tea in Chen Jiang Restaurant is one of the better ones that I have had. The herbal taste was very strong, and it was added with some sugar to taste. The drink was chilled beforehand, hence they didn't put a lot of ice, which was fine by me. That meant that the drink is not diluted. Thirst-quenching, the drink was also cooling. Priced at RM1.60 a glass, it was a decent price to pay.

Another colleague who is able to read Chinese, saw that they were offering pork soup written in Chinese, hence he decided to order that. The big bowl of soup is full of ingredients, namely slices of pork meat, succulent pork stomach and minced pork cooked in a salted vege and tau foo soup. It was garnished with some Chinese parsley and served with a plate of white rice. The soup was slightly salty, but goes very well with the white rice. Priced at RM6.50, it was well worthe the amount paid.

Another colleague noticed that most of the patrons were consuming pan mee soup, so she decided to give it a try. The service here is pretty quick, and the food filling and no-frills. The pan mee came in a jiffy, and it looked very nice. The clear broth was devoid of any MSG taste, purely pork bone and anchovies soup. There were toppings of fried anchovies, slices of black fungus and lots of sweet potato leaves. Not too salty, the bowl of noodles was definitely very satisfying, especially when pa

Another signature dish of Chen Jiang Restaurant has got to be the Hakka noodles. I was told by my colleague that the chef is actually from Taiwan. It was surprising to know that a Taiwanese was able to cook such good local food. The Hakka noodle is cooked very well. It didn't have any sauce, but the noodle was tossed in lard oil, which gives it a good aroma. The noodle was topped with some minced pork and sprinkled with some spring onions. I like the fact that there is a separate bowl of soup with some fish cakes, fish balls and some yau mak, which definitely enhanced the whole ensemble. The fish items were full of mouth bounce, and the yau mak was fresh, and not overly cooked. For the price of RM5, it was definitely well worth the amount paid.

My colleague recommended us to try out this restaurant. She highly recommended the char siew wan tan mee. I was a bit apprehensive because Meng Kee Char Siew is just opposite, and I would actually rather go there for some good char siew instead. However, since the majority of the group agreed, we went to Chen Jiang instead. Note that the shop name doesn't have English characters, so one has to be a Chinese reader. Anyhow, I ordered the highly recommended char siew wan tan mee. Surprisingly, it was quite good. The wantan noodle was cooked to perfection, not too hard, and not too soft tossed in some soya sauce, dark sauce and oil. The best thing is, the oil uses lard. It doesn't have the weird alkaline taste, which was a good thing. There were some vegetables and a fried wantan that comes in the set. The highlight has to be the char siew. Although it is not half fat half lean maltosed type like Meng Kee, it can definitely hold its own. The meat is lean, very tender and juicy. It also comes with a small bowl of soup with two pieces of wantan floating inside. The soup wantan is merely OK, nothing to shout about. For the price tag of RM5, it was well worth the amount paid.
