Just recently, I had a chance to try Din Tai Fung's set lunch which recently just started not too long ago. Their set lunch was a 2 course meal with drinks and dessert with additional charges. So for the first course meal, you are given four choices. You are given the choice to choose between, Hot & Sour Soup La Mian, Shrimp Pork Wantan La Mian, Cha Jiang La Mian and Pork Chop Fried Rice. We had noodles for our breakfast, so we settled on their Pork Chop Fried Rice. Their pork chop was fried to perfection. Their fried rice looked pretty simple with ingredients like egg, garlic and spring onions, but do not under estimate it. The fried rice was simple but good! It wasn't too oily or too dry. The type of rice they used was very much similar to Japanese rice. The fried pork chop went really well with the fried rice.

The set also comes with a basket their famous xia long bao which comes in six pieces. So what is xiao long bao exactly? Xiao long bao is actually steam buns that the filling consist of meat (usually pork) and other ingredients. What's so special about xiao long bao is that, besides the meat filling, inside the xiao long bao contains a small amount of some kind of broth/soup.

I ordered ourselves some dessert which was an additional RM4++. With every set lunch, you are allowed to order any choice of desserts which was featured in their menu for only RM4++! I ordered ourselves a bowl of Red Bean with Black Sesame Glutinous Ball. Their red bean soup was really special and nothing like can be found in other dessert shop or restaurants. Their red bean soup was really smooth and could not taste any bits or pieces of red bean. We think that the blend the red bean to make their red bean soup. So it tasted awesomely good! Not to forget their black sesame glutinous rice balls! There are two balls for each bowl. Their black sesame tasted so fresh and the layer of glutinous was so chewy. It is a really good dessert! Very highly recommended!

I like to eat the lamian in din tai fung. When comes to the lamian in din tai fung, the feeling is more superb. I like this dan dan mian. It is a sichuan style noodle. The noodle has some mushroom and bean curd on top. The sauce is slimy feeling but then it make the noodle very smooth. There is a bit spiciness in the noodle. But then I still like to add in chilli oil to enhance the taste more.

Basically as long as there is chili in it, the food can be nice. This la mian comes with chili oil and dumpling. When you eat this la mian, each bite you can taste a bit of spiciness. If you feel like want more spicy, you can go add in more chili oil into your noodle. I like the springy feel of the noodle.

I have no chance to travel to China to eat Xiao Long Bao. Luckily there is this remarkable restaurant who serve decent Xiao Long Bao here. Everytime I visit to this restaurant, if my wallet allowed me, I will order this dish. Imagine every bite you eat, there is this nice soup flow into your mouth.

The zha jian mian here is not the zha jiang mian from Korea. This is the chinese version of zha jian mian. The dish is very simple. Just a noodle with some pork on top. Then when it served, you mix everything well and it's ready to eat. The noodle here is very springy. The best words to describe it are 'go there order one and try yourself'. When something is nice, it cannot be described by words.

This pork chop la mien is very simple. The soup is clear soup and their pork meat is thick. Although the meat is thick, but when you bite it, you can feel the texture in it very well. For the soup, in order to show respect to the chef, I will first drink till half bowl of the soup then only add in chilli oil. It's not that their clear soup not nice. It is just that I prefer spiciness in my food.

The Yam Paste dessert is one dish that I didn't enjoy as much as I do like others. The paste is quite watery and there is a poor flavour and yam scent in it. The paste was light in sugar too but I'm OK with that while the ginko nuts doesn't really have much doing in bringing the flavour, texture, or scent on the paste.

The Xiao Long Pao is Din Tai Fung signature dish. There's an open kitchen window where you will spot master chef preparing this dish as it often get order out almost instantly. The skin was fragile and please handle with care as you wouldn't want the soup and meat inside it to drip out. It comes in a perfect size to your mouth but be warn again as it is very hot. The soup was tasty and delightful while not being too salty. It is as good as other Xiao Long Pao you might have already tried / liked

The fried rice is a stir fried with scramble egg along with salt and sauce for seasoning. It was slightly oily but it was easily covered with the just nice, perfectly taste of the fried rice. It was kinda small in portion in my opinion.

The thick and slightly sticky soup of Hot & Sour La Mian is really appetizing. The sourness in this soup open up the appetite and the spiciness make it an sweaty and hot dining experience.
