Having tried their very first restaurant in Damansara Uptown, we were quite sceptical of the food here. Even though Fat Spoon is famous and can be quite crowded even on weekdays, we don’t find the food very fascinating for us to return for the second time. And today we finally decided to give it a try. Their second branch in Desa Sri Hartamas. Tuck in the already crowded corner of Desa Sri Hartamas where parking might be a slight issue, it was a corner shop with no signage or billboard. Only when you alight right in front of the shop where one will notice the name “MEI” on their window.
The interior of the restaurant is quite different compared to Fat Spoon’s vintage theme. Simple, white and no frills kind of concept, it can be a nice place to chill on a weekend afternoon. We had the Ox Tongue Rice and Torched Salmon as well as the Hot Lemon Grass and Pandan for two. This time around, we enjoyed the food. The sliced ox tongue was just nice, thinly sliced with a bowl of piping hot rice.The top of the salmon was perfectly torched while the center was still a little raw, very much to our liking.
The only disappointment that we had this time around was the chocolate cake desert that we took away for a friend. For a price of RM15 per piece, we expected more than a tasteless cocoa-less cake.
Other than that, it was considerably a good experience. The staff was also being nice enough to lend us an umbrella since it rained heavily when we left. We will definitely come back for the other food on the menu.
