Wan Tan Noodle @ Yi Garden Smile Jul 04, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Juices / Bubble Tea / Tea / Yogurt

Yi Garden Cafe (怡园茶室) is located at corner of the T junction between Macalister Road and Lorong Selamat.

Dry Wan Tan Noodle @ RM4.00

The noodle itself looks more yellowish and curly compared to normal wan tan noodle. Somehow looks like ''rubber band''. But its really chewy and more 爽口. Their dry noodle is mix with oyster sauce and some broth, so you will feel more watery compared with the usual dry and black soy sauce of WanTon noodle in KL.

Comes with 4 huge WanTon (云吞) !! The wan ton is stuffed full of minced meat and each has a prawn in it too.

Spending per head: Approximately RM4

Delicious Sar Hor Fun Smile Jul 04, 2012

This is one of the place I must visit when I go to Penang. -- 高佬沙河粉!! Koh Low Sar Hor Fun is a stall inside Yi Garden Cafe (怡园茶室). Its located at corner of the T junction between Macalister Road and Lorong Selamat.

Sar hor fun (沙河粉) priced from RM4.50 per pax (medium : RM9.00 and big : RM12.00)
Penang style Sar Hor Fun is a mix of fried mee hoon and hor fun with thick gravy and usually without egg. Additional RM0.50 for egg.

I ordered mine with egg because i feel its more delicious with it.

The Hor Fun (河粉) is bigger and broader in pieces which is very different from those kueh teow (粿条) of Wah Tan Hor (滑蛋河) we have in KL. The Hor Fun here is smooth and the mix with mee hoon is totally different from Wah Tan Hor. Koh Low Sar Hor Fun comes with fresh prawns, pork fillet, fish fillet and some vege. Their mee hoon and hor fun has the ''kuali'' fried fragrance. Delicious !!!

Besides, they also serve normal noodles such as loh mee, yee mee fried noodles upon request.

Apom  OK Jun 24, 2013

Everywhere in Penang you can easily find apom. The aroma is always hardly resist if you smells it. All the apom are freshly made, and delicious especially is still hot. I like the surrounding which is so crispy. Inside has just a tiny piece of banana and some sweet corns. Something i don't like is the sweet corn they use has the root, which is quite hard when you bite it.

Mochaccino & Sandwich OK Aug 01, 2012   (Related Review)

The cafe is operate by a young man who is the barista too. The environment is cozy and comfortable. There are sofas corner which is a nice place to relax.

Mochaccino @ RM11.90
Different between mocha and mochaccino is that Mochaccino will have more foam than mocha. Yes 2 inch of foam on top. The portion is huge for a tall size. Taste wise, it is actually quite mild of both choco and coffee. For me, i prefer a stronger and thicker taste.

Turkey Cheddar Sandwich @ RM7.90
You can choose to have it heat up or not. Comes with wholemeal bread, turkey ham, 2 slices of cheddar cheese and lettuce. It taste good and the combination of turkey ham and cheddar is delicious. However, i find it quite dry. Luckily i have the mochaccino with me.

Char Hor Fun OK Jul 21, 2012   (Related Review)

Char Hor Fun
Actually the hor fun and meehoon is precooked. Once there is an order, they will just cooked up the gravy and ingredients then pour it on. It's served with huge prawns, pork meat, sliced char siew and green vege. The ''wok hey'' aroma of char hor fun is very important. However the taste here is just average and bit too salty. Adding in pickled green chili may enhance the taste nicer. Luckily the prawns and other ingredients are very fresh.

They serve Penang White Coffee here. It comes in a big mug but still ''thick'' and taste great (at least i feel better than the old town coffee). Enjoy the fragrance of white coffee smell so much. Price here is very reasonable too.
