Dukes & Duchess at TTDI, KL Smile Jul 19, 2015

Categories : Western variety | Bar & Pub | Burgers / Sandwiches | BBQ

Lunch on Raya Day 2 was recommended by my dear friend (a super mom) at Dukes & Duchess in TTDI, KL. A very unique "Portugis style" of Western Asian Fusion!

It's splendid entrance signage takes you in to a very cozy "bar and grill" lounge.

Although we were here for lunch on a Public Holiday/Weekend, we didn't really expect to see their "Lunch set" menu. However, we were so wronged! It was the first menu they laid down infront of us. Lovely, lunch set meals includes with Ice Lemon Tea, Ice Cream & Rice (for the Asian fusion dishes). I did requested for their usual menu to see what other offerings this place has in terms of choices. It was alot!! (2) Two page full of yummy names and brief details.

Set Lunch Menu

Their set lunch menu is pretty simple and straight to the point. Everything fits in (1) one page with pictures.

On their usual menu, there's a small section at the corner that feature's Dukes & Duchess, Chef Don Theseira, their head chef with over 35 yrs experience! 35 yrs is aplenty experience because I'm only 27 yrs this year (2015) and the head chef has been cooking for the past 35 yrs even before I was born!

Let's dive into our orders, am hungry already while typing this post!

Their nice and tasty "Ice Lemon Tea", no set meal will be complete without the good ol' Ice Lemon Tea thirst quencher. Btw, this picture I've captured looks like cold beer leh~ I wished... Lolx!

Their "Soup Of The Day" (RM12) was mushroom soup (ordered off their ala carte menu btw). I love it! I have been searching for this soup for a long time, I have tried remaking this but have failed to get the right combination of the mushroom fragrance & thickness. Their garlic bread ain't too thick and super crispy. Dip them into the soup and "mm-mmmm" sluuurrppps~!

"Grilled Pork Chop" RM15 (Lunch set), yummy thick and succulent pork chops, grilled to perfection with every bite! The BBQ sauce is really different than those usual western food BBQ sauce. Almost homemade like. However, the black pepper is really strong in the sauce.

"Nyonya Tamarind Braised Pork" RM19 (Lunch set) comes with rice & keropok. This is non-spicy but the sauce is really unique. Has that tangy tamarind taste to it. It's like sweet & sour but really fragrant too. U do not find this dish anywhere!! This is the first time tasting a meal like this and it was splendid!

"Butter Rice Pork Chop" RM15 (Lunch set) need I say more? The pork chop is thick and yummy, especially with it's sauce. The sauce is like the Tamarind braised pork sauce but has more herb aroma in it (am guessing it's basil?). The butter rice is like fried rice style where there are veggie's in it, esp. onion. Makes the rice really moist and yummy.

Last but not least, their lovely dessert (comes with the set lunches). It was delish! The whole set was delish!

There was another dish, the "Kung Pao Claypot" RM19 (Lunch) comes with rice. However, no picture because my mother-in-law ate it before I could snap a lovely photo of it. That is how awesome it is! NOt your ordinary Kung Pao Claypot Chicken! Really nyonya style. Tastes different but GOOD different~!

The total bill for (4) four pax was RM80. NO service tax and NO GST! How awesome is that!

Will I come back again?

DEFINITELY! So should u if u haven't already!

Baby Daniel Fullmoon Luncheon Smile Dec 18, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches

30 days came and gone.

The milestone that I've been anticipating.

The end of my confinement and my baby Daniel fullmoon celebration.

My very own DIY E-Invitation (via WhatsApp)My very own DIY E-Invitation Map to the venue

I decided to DIY the goodie bags just need hubby to help purchase all the necessary stuffs

(Sweet condiments, cheezels party pack all from Jalan Pudu (from those wholesale shoplot) and goodie bag from Daiso)Prepared to head out to the venue! (PIC NO FILTER!)

Lovely setup from Kalamazoo!

Beautiful deco from Kalamazoo. Thanks to Tisha for being able to provide such wonderful decos in such short timing (confirmed venue 2wks and deco and menu in a wk). Also this baby onesie and colours coordination was based on my request (just trying luck). Am glad they are able to have this deco hehe, fits the event perfectly!

The buffet spread (not really, still charges per pax). But it was the best package amongst all the others I've compared with and the menu I customized on my own (ownself mix and match). There's also pre-selected menu but I chose to custom it. Btw, it is non-halal and this place is pet-friendly (brought my lil Panda Bi here during the event hehe)

Cream of Broccoli - My guests love it. Heck! I love it too!! Lucky got leftover, brought home and heated up for dinner 1 huge bowl, so so yummy!

Breakfast sausage - Love the setting, the grilled outlook and who can resist sausage!! I told myself I must have sausages right after confinement, and here you go!

Mushroom Bolognese Spaghetti - Need I say more? Everyone love it, not too sweet, not too sour. The sauce is just perfect, the spaghetti (although common) but chewy and springy enough.

Beef Meatballs - Yes, I miss Ikea Beef Meatballs and this is close enough! I have to say this seems like it's made from scratch, fragrant enough and tasty till the last bite!

Pork Meatloaf - I miss the chicken meatloaf I used to eat at Logenhaus @ Taipan. That's the reason for this food choice. I was anticipating this the most! And I highly recommend this, totally made from scratch, you can taste the goodness in every bite! Can eat this with or without the brown gravy, it just tastes great!! I'll be back here for more pork delicacies!

Pesto Cheesy Chicken - I decided to take the risk and go for this! Never tried pesto with cheese and chicken combination. The others on the menu was kinda common for cooking with chicken. I wanted something different, something nobody has eaten or ordered outside anywhere. And I miss cheese... This came out perfect! Didn't expect this to taste so good that it almost melt in your mouth!

Ice Lemon Tea & Drinking Water - This was kinda common, but tasty nonetheless. I miss cold drinks and I miss ICE LEMON TEA!! I wanted to pick Peach Tea but I decided not to because I don't think everyone has a thing for Peach like me. Anyway, I had my fair share of Ice Peach Tea here the day before when we came to check out this place for the final arrangements (it was awesome-powsome!!)Overall, I decided I wanted more meat for my guests (and ME!) so my custom menu is made of Beef, Pork & Chicken. Ha-ha! And my menu choices is based on what I wanted to try (crave for after confinement!!!). They say, when you're hungry, anything tastes good! I say, whether or not I'm hungry or craving for certain food types, my selection of food never failed me nor my hubby once!

Highly recommend this place! My first time here too and will not be my last, I'll be back to try those succulent pork burger... (mouthwatering now...)Ended the day with opening the presents from our lovely friends & families for baby Daniel. Must capture the moment so that I can tell him his precious moments and stories when he grows up hehe...

Bee Bee Hiong @ Malacca Smile Oct 15, 2015

Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles | Yong Tau Fu

The best fish ball/fish paste yong tau foo ever!!

Restoran Bee Bee HiongMy mum has only seen those makan-makan TV shows on fish ball in Malacca but has been asking me if I've found any of it so far... This place came up when I searched Google for specific keywords "Fish ball + Melaka"

RESTAURANT BEE BEE HIONG

No. 27/27-1, Jalan BPM 14,

Taman Bukit Piatu Mutiara,

75150 Bukit Piatu, Melaka.

06-284 3139

017-672 671640 years of strong presence! This is worth the visit! They have another outlet, managed by the 2nd generation of the Goh family :

FEDERAL AH CHENG YONG TAU FOO

No.666, Ground Floor, Jalan Bukit Melaka 1/2,

Taman Bukit Melaka, 75450 Bukit Beruang, Melaka.

06-232 9550

012-623 9550 (Mr Yong Chaw Yee)

012-234 9550 (Ms Goh Lay Cheng)

8.00am-3.00pm (close on every Thursday)So we "waze" ourselves here as our 1st stop in Malacca!

My mom & mother-in-law, had the luxury to select as many "Yong Tau Foo" pieces as much as they want, so we had about 3 to 4 pieces of each types available.

The fish paste & fish ball here is "heavenly"! Surprisingly, this place was not that crowded.

(We were there at 9am)

The texture of the homemade fish paste in the Yong Tau Foo is really chewy and "crunchy", best of all is the flavour! That fresh fish flavour, so rich in fragrance and really sweet. Most of us came out of the restaurant smelling like Yong Tau Foo! Lolx!

We had a very satisfying meal. I highly recommend this place!

Our total spent on this lovely meal is RM35.40

(4 pax portion - For up to 20 huge pieces of Yong Tau Foo, 2x dry noodle & 2x soup noodle)

Poh Piah! An all-time favourite snack food. My parents love this so much that it's really tough to find a good poh piah in town.

Thanks to Malacca & Penang, there are still great tasty poh piah that's available in Malaysia.

I've never really tried Penang but have heard about it's legacy. Malacca on the other hand, I have tried it on my first visit there and it was along Jalan Bunga Raya stall. It left a very very deep mark in my heart. Because it is YUMMY!Today, let me tell you about "Poh Piah Lwee" located just along the shoplots (on the right) before turning in to Jonker Walk.

Passing by here for many times, I always tend to miss this shop. Until now.

The poh piah, RM3, here is really yummy! The jicama is nicely marinated and boiled in a way that it is not too dry, not too sweet and best of all it's just right! Crunchy, fresh, sweet and mix really well with all the other ingredients in the poh piah. What I love most about Malacca poh piah is that you can actually find fried pork lard oil inside! The one I tried at Bunga Raya was very wet and oily, they were really generous on the pork lard oil and sauce but it was abit overwhelming. At Poh Piah Lwee, the amount is just right, just perfect!

See the insides aren't too oily nor dry. Just at the right texture!

This is the Nyonya Dumpling, RM4.80, is a must-try dish here! I love the presentation of it. That color and also the inside fillings were really good! Not too sweet and very tasty! Got pork lard oil also!!

Rojak, RM6, was considered acceptable. Nothing too special except for the difference in the sauce versus the one back in KL or in Penang. However, the crackers were crispy like most rojak. Worth to try as well, sauce tastes somewhat unique.

Minced Meat & Mushroom Noodle, RM4 (small portion) / RM5 (big portion), this is really unique! Very yummy! Very tasty! Very appetizing! Mouthwatering even! The sauce and the noodle is really a match made in heaven! Seriously!

Nyonya Laksa, RM4 (small portion) / RM5 (big portion), we came here also for this! That creamy broth of nyonya laksa. It's not so spicy and it was just perfect! So creamy, so tasty and so delicious! I almost drank the whole soup but I didn't wanna get sore throat lolx... Very fragrant also!Serving portion was really good! We shared all the above portion for 4 pax. Was really full because we had this at tea time lolx... Our total bill came up to RM63 and it was worth every $ spent!

Find out more here.
