Dessert at Madam Kwan's  Smile Feb 05, 2016

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Nasi Lemak | Fine Dining

After a long day of classes, my friend and I decided to have dessert. We had no idea where to go, and so my friend suggested Madam Kwan. I was really confused because I thought that Madam Kwan only serves Malaysian food like nasi lemak and assam laksa. Apparently when I saw the menu, I realised that there were an array of dishes they offer!

So we decided to flip to the end of the menu where the 'desserts section' was. We ordered banana fritters with vanilla ice cream. We shared because it was quite pricey for such a simple dish.

When our dessert arrived, my mouth was watering already. The fried banana fritters had this very nice shiny golden brown colour to it and seemed like it was fried to perfection! I took a bite of the banana fritter with the ice cream and I have never tasted anything that fits so well together. The vanilla ice cream really complements the fried banana fritters so well!!! Cold and hot at the same time, simply delicious and satisfying!! The banana fritters were crispy and the flavour was really good especially when you eat together with the vanilla ice cream! Really a dessert worth trying!!

Affordable Japanese food!  Smile Feb 04, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen/Udon/Soba

My partner and I were looking for some affordable food as we were tight on budget and at the same time we felt like having Japanese food. So, it was quite tricky because Japanese food has never been cheap! Just when we were scouting around what to eat, we came across this place filled with people! The sign says Yoshinoya & Hanamaru Udon, clearly its serves Japanese food right?

So we decided to go take a look at the menu and guess what, the food there matched our budget! I ordered the regular Kitsune Udon which only costed me RM 8.80! The udon noodles were chewy and the texture was really nice. The soup was clear yet so flavourful!! As for the tofu, it was really soft and yummy.

My partner on the other hand ordered the regular chicken tempura which was RM 13.80. It was worth the money for the amount of tempura and chicken they gave! He couldn’t finish his food because it was too filling for him. The bowl may be small, but the food in the bowl sure can fill an empty stomach. The tempura was fried nicely, although some were abit soggy. The teriyaki sauce on the chicken was flavourful, it goes well with the white Japanese rice. Overall it was a great and affordable meal!

Best nasi lemak in town! Smile Feb 04, 2016

My all-time favourite place to have brunch after intensive workout is Village Park! Sinful yet irresistible, village park nasi lemak’s star of the dish is the big piece of fried chicken!! The nasi lemak there is really comfort food, where you don’t mind having it every week.

However, one thing that hinders me from going there too often is that the place is always packed with people!! Thus, people are always waiting to get a seat and it is quite a hassle looking out for seats. Patience is virtue really applies here if you want to eat good food.
The most important component of a plate of nasi lemak is the sambal!! The sambal in Village Park nasi lemak has just the right balance of sweet and spiciness. The sambal isn’t too spicy, so for those people who can’t really eat spicy food, you will be able to eat the whole plate of nasi lemak without having to sweat and drink lots of water.

What I love most about Village Park’s nasi lemak is its fried chicken!! The fried chicken has a crispy skin and juicy on the inside. The fried chicken is really finger licking good ! A must try for everyone!!

Crazy for chocolates Smile Feb 03, 2016

Categories : Western variety | Café | Sweets/Snack

If you have an undying love for chocolate, then Dip ‘n Dip with satisfy your palate because they serve nothing but food with chocolate!!! They have crepes, waffles, pancakes, chocolate fountain where you can dip your fruits in it. This place is like a chocolate heaven for all chocolate lovers out there!!

I ordered the very famous triple chocolate crepe, chocolate brownie and Dip 'n Dip pancakes. The triple chocolate crepe is to die for. The chocolate was rich and the texture was smooth and silky. As for the crepe was thin just to my liking. The chocolate crepe was melting in my mouth and I literally licked the whole plate after finishing the crepe.

As for the chocolate brownie, it was fresh out from the oven and the taste was good. I wasn’t that excited about the brownie so much. The Dip ‘n Dip pancakes was a stack of mini pancakes topped with fresh fruits and finished with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. For the people who opt for healthy yet sinful dessert can order this! You will instantly feel happier after eating food with chocolate!

Garage 51 OK Feb 03, 2016
Categories : Western variety | Café | Burgers / Sandwiches

There are a few great cafes around my university to hang out with your friends, and Garage 51 is one of them. They offer affordable set lunches during lunch hour that is why we frequently go there.

Only RM 10 for their main course and a drink. You can choose either lemonade or ice lemon tea for the drinks. They offer different food from Monday-Friday and their menu for set lunches changes every 2 weeks if I’m not mistaken. You can never get bored of the food even if you have lunch at Garage 51 every day.

I went there on Friday and they had oglio olio angel hair with pieces of fried chicken on their menu. So I decided to order that. The food came pretty late, as the café was crowded with people. Normally they serve quite fast, it was just that Friday my food came late. The spaghetti was not that bad, it wasn’t too bland or too flavourful, just sufficient in taste. The fried chicken was good though, the chicken was crispy from the outside and tender and juicy in the inside. The lemonade drink wasn’t too sour, just the right amount of acidity and sourness.

However for the big eaters out there, you will not be full after eating their set lunch because the portion is just enough for a normal tummy.

My friend on the other hand orderd the smoked salmon sandwich with fries which costed her around RM23. According to her, the smoked salmon was quite flavourful but the bread was quite hard. The fries were fried to perfection and had just the right amount of seasoning.

Overall it was a pleasant meal and I will definitely visit there again.
