Just stick with their nasi kukus OK Mar 30, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Malay | Restaurant | Noodles

Hayaki is famous for their nasi kukus ayam, but I decided to try their nasi ulam the other day. Ulam is pretty much a malay style salad, they use raw vegetables like cucumbers and petai and serve it with a spicy condiment and white rice and half of a salted egg.

The condiment was pretty good but it might be too spicy for some so proceed with caution. The only thing I would complain about is they gave very little of the vegetables. If I remembered correctly, I only got 3 petais, 4 short sticks of cucumber and a couple more vegetables. For the price I paid, I should have just gone with their nasi kukus, it was actually more expensive.

Good wet char kuey teow Smile Mar 30, 2012

Mali's Corner is extremely famous for their nasi lemak panas and char kuey teow and decided to give their char kuey teow a try. I ordered the 'special' variety, which has extra prawn in it. The style they serve is of the wet variety and it was indeed very good. The prawns were pretty big and I got about maybe 7 prawns, and the overall taste of the dish was satisfying. I highly recommend this place, make sure to also try their famous nasi lemak panas as well.

My friend decided to catch a football game at this mamak place which ended up to be an extremely bad idea. First off the service was extremely slow but there wasn't many people to begin with. Once we finally got the attention of the server, I went ahead and ordered a nasi lemak ayam. The rice was not cooked well, it did not have much flavour and aroma to it. The chicken was small, cold and hard; nothing was good about the dish.

A little too salty Cry Mar 30, 2012

I suddenly craved wantan mee and I thought I was lucky enough that this stall was nearby, I thought wrong. The noodles were springy and the wantan in the soup was pretty much how I always liked it, it was pretty good. The bad thing about it is the sauce was very salty. I felt I had to down 5 liters of water just to wash it out.

Before going into the outlet, I was skeptical as I thought it was another normal cafe styled restaurant but I was presently surprised when my food came. They have quite a number of dishes to choose from, I ordered the beef cheese baked rice with black pepper sauce. The other sauces available are red (tomato), white(cheese or cream), and one more which I can't recall.

The cheese baked rice only cost about rm12 after taxes and was very good. It was cheesy and the beef was tender and flavourful. Some might not like the black pepper sauce as it could be overwhelming to some but for those pepper lovers it is definitely a great choice. The sauce's hotness was just perfect and the rice was the chicken rice variety (the yellow flavoured one) which was a very nice touch as some places only give you white rice.

Overall I really enjoyed the cheese baked rice and definitely recommend everyone to try it.
