Chatime Smile Jan 01, 2014

Categories : Taiwanese | Stall / Warung | Halal | Juices / Bubble Tea / Tea / Yogurt

Chatime is a Taiwanese franchise founded in 2005 with over 800 retail outlets across countries like Taiwan, Malaysia, China, India, Macau, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Dubai, Vietnam, Canada, UK and the United States. As one of the top beverage companies in the world, Chatime Malaysia aims to also be the most loved beverage by revolutionizing the tea drinking culture in Malaysia

Chatime is franchised from Taiwan. There are many outlets in Malaysia and it is well-known. Chatime provides a variety of choices of tea and coffee, variety of fruit pump, and variety of toppings. I love caramel milk tea the most. It taste fresh and unlike other milk tea drinks that I have tasted. You can try this! The staffs who work in Chatime provide good customer service with friendly smile. The prices of the drinks are quite reasonable which are around RM4.90 to RM5.90 for regular size and additional RM 1 for large size. Besides that, consumers can add on toppings with additional RM 1. The best thing is that we have sugar options and ice options which means we can choose the preferable level of sugar and ice for the drinks. The design of the outlet is simple and nice. It is a suitable place for teenagers to relax and have some drinks. But, the disadvantage is that we might need to wait for a long queue for the drinks.I was treated to the Grass Jelly Fresh Milk. I just love this milky, healthy drink, filled with lots of incredibly soft grass jelly, which it was easier to finish up once I finished the drink.

The chocolate and coffee flavour is also a good choice to try...

The OldTown White Coffee, OTWC (Chinese: 旧街场白咖啡) is the largest kopitiam restaurant chain in Malaysia. Its main headquarters is in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Old Town White Coffee serves a variety of Malaysian-style dishes such as kaya toast, prawn noodles and Ipoh Hor Fun in addition to their signature coffee products that has been regarded as one of the best in the industry.

I love their toast bread and the half-boiled eggs in Old Town White Coffee...The toast was good, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside... The Nasi Lemak is also delicious... It's also taste good... Overall it's good to try.

Hailam Kopitiam Smile Dec 31, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches | Noodles | Halal

In Malaysia, there seems to be an increasing variety of oriental cafes serving local and western cuisine which gives that old kopitiam vibe. Apart from the famous OldTown Cafe, SS2's Hailam Kopitiam is a great venue for a quiet chit chat which offers a huge variety in their menu list. It is a perfect place for supper too.
Applying modern marketing techniques and strategies, the cafe's interior is tastefully done to reflect a traditional kopitiam but with the added comfort of air-conditioning, modern table setting and neat decor creating a warm, welcoming ambience. It's a nice place to surf the internet while "yum cha"-ing or "chui sui"-ing!!
It's neither the Oldtown Kopitiam, nor the Oldtaste Kopitiam, but the Hailam Kopitiam which located at SS2^^
Hailam Kopitiam' s most fasmous food is their specially prepared coffee/tea, home-made kaya with toasted bread (rotibakar) and half-boiled eggs, popular hainanese chicken chop and fish fillet prepared as in colonial times, mee soup, mee goreng and of course, the all-time favourite, hainanese chicken rice.
All the Hainan Kopitiam's dishes are halal certified.

In Hailam Kopitiam, they have many kind of foods... Their menu have a bunch of choices to make. Breads, sweet soups, rice, noodles, chops, are to name a few which mostly are local delights. The most famous is their Hainan Special Roaster Coffee and Hailam Chicken Chop... They also sell other food and drinks like the Lime Juice, Cham (Kopi + Teh) Ice, Lemon Tea, Milk Tea, Honey Lemon Juice, Hailam Chicken Chop, Hokkien Fried Meehoon, Kampung Ikan Rice, Nasi Lemak, Chicken Chop Sandwich, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Chicken Kuey Teow Soup

The price of food and drinks in Hailam Kopitiam is not so expensive... It's reasonably.
Jasmine Honey Tea (RM3.80), Iced Milk Tea (RM2.70), Milk Tea (RM2.30), Hainan Special Roasted Coffee (RM2.50),
Hailam Fried Mee (RM6.80), Hailam Chicken Chop (RM11.50), Tom Yam Mee Hoon (RM6.80), Hailam Traditional Chicken Rice Special (RM6.90), Dry Curry Chicken with Mee (RM7.50)

I love their toast bread and the half-boiled eggs and not forget the Hailamnese Coco drink so much!! Their signature Hailam chicken chop was really nice in its juicy chicken fried and topped up with their hailam sauce. Apart from that, they are accompanied with mixed veges and fries. Next, the Hailamnese Fried mee~~ It tastes not bad too!!!

After buying some grocery in Giant, I went for a quick lunch at the Kluang Station... Kluang station is actually a kopitiam inside Kluang’s railway station. It is being commercialize and further expanded by the original Lim family’s great grandson Mr. JJ Phun. All their coffee beans are hand roasted. They still maintain the original food and drinks such as half boil eggs, hainanese coffee and toast bread which sold since 1938. The first modernized Kluang Station were opened in One Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya. It’s located on the Lower Ground Floor at the Oval court, 1 Utama new wing (opposite Bread Story). Kluang Station is a nice typical Kopitiam concept place in 1 Utama. They serve several types of food including their famous Nasi Lemak, Roti Bakar, and other types of food one finds in Smalltown Malaysia.

The toast was good, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside... It costs for RM1.50 only. Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM10.90), Special Fried Chicken (RM4.50), Nasi Ayam Masak Merah (RM7.90), Pineapple Drink (RM3.50), Kluang Mee Siam (RM4.90), Nasi Lemak (RM 3.90), Iced Coffee (RM 2.80 each)
Mee Siam (RM6.90)
All the food and drinks sold in Kluang Station is quiet good with a reasonably price...

The Hainanese Chicken Chop is quiet delicious... It's perfect if adding a Cham Iced with the Hainanese Chicken Chop... The freshly fried chicken chop was deliciously crispy on the outside. A thick piece of juicy chicken thigh was revealed beneath all that crispiness... The sweetish tomato sauce with garden peas and baked beans was perfect with the already scrumptious chicken... I enjoyed mopping the sauce with the crinkle-cut fries that came with the dish.

They also sell the delicious nasi lemak and only cost RM3.90... It's quiet cheaper when you go for lunch in One Utama Shopping Centre... Rif’s nasi lemak was alright. Fragrant coconut milk infused rice with spicy sambal and crunchy ikan bilis, I kept thinking we should have got some chicken rendang to go with…hehe... If having a chicken rendang eating along the nasi lemak, it will be a very good experience there...

For the drinks, I prefer like the Cham Iced. It costs Rm2.80... It's the best partner for the Hainanese Chicken Chop (my own opinion )... The "kao" coffee is also a good choice of drinks during the tea time... The “kao” coffee concluded our satisfying tea break..

I like dining here as the food is quite good (at least for now) and reasonably priced. It's the one of the better kopitiams around. Quite an ideal place to dine in if one is on a budget and sick of fast food.

The Coffee Stain by Joseph Smile Dec 29, 2013

Categories : Western variety | Pizza/Pasta | Steaks / Chops

Hi there foodies... Today’s post is going to be about this amazing little treasure find, my friend and I discovered on a day out in KL. After a long day of shopping, we were looking for a nice and cozy place to grab a cup of coffee and catch up. My friend recommended me about this popular café somewhere in Fahrenheit88 and me, being the eager beaver on trying new places, insisted we go there. We eventually found the place without any effort. This cafe is easily to be found in Fahrenheit88.
“The Coffee Stain by Joseph” as the café is called, is located on the level 3 of Fahrenheit88. I'm personally not really familiar with all these fancy coffee lingos and ended up staring at the menu for quite some time before making a decision. The menu consisted of everything from coffee to tea to even smoothies and milkshakes.
One of the most interesting part of the menu was a section called the “The Slow Bar” where they take what they call the “single origin” coffee beans of the day and use special brewing methods that sound like something your would find in a science laboratory. Some of the strange brewing methods they provided were siphon, chemex and aeropress. All drinks ranged between RM6 to RM12. They also had a variety of cakes (they had Red Velvet cake, for you Red Velvet junkies like me) and pastries too.
In the end, I decided get a mocha and a mocha cheese cake

. Who couldn’t resist a drink with some sort of a chocolate element? My friend got an espresso macchiato. They were absolutely lovely. I would describe the flavor as being very pure to the ingredients, unlike some other coffees I have had that had a very strong roasted flavor that often overpowered the coffee flavor.
We sat around and chatted. The atmosphere was chilled and laidback. My friend then mentioned that she was told that this café did a thing called 3D coffee foam art. I was appalled that she did not mention it earlier as I would have asked the barista about it. After much discussion, we decided that since we were here, we might as well just ask about it.
We then asked the barista about and he made a hot chocolate with the coffee foam art. I nearly died from the cuteness when I first saw it. Three little cats make from foam floating on top of the hot chocolate. I was really amazed. After taking pictures of it from almost every angle possible, we were caught between the dilemma of watching the little foam cats slowly melt away or devour those little buggers. We sadly ate each one of those little kitties of foam and shared the hot chocolate. I have to say that that cup of hot chocolate was one of the best I have ever had. It was thick and luxurious. Gosh, just thinking about makes me want to have one right now.
Japanese artist makes 3D works of art out of coffee froth. You can ask them to create any your favourite cartoon on the coffee froth... They won't decline your demand if they know how to do it...
After some though, I realized why the name “Coffee Stain by Joseph” sounded so familiar to me. I remember seeing a branch in Publika at Solaris Dutamas. I ran through one of the flyers there and discovered that they were featured in TimeOutKL as one of the best coffee joints in KL. The main branch in Publika also serves a vast variety of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I really would like to try out the branch in Publika one day to get my hands on some of their food. If you are looking for a nice cozy place for warm cup of coffee (or cold, if the day is hot) or just to get a cup of drinkable art, then please do drop by The Coffee Stain by Joseph. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I did.
