My colleague recommended us to try out this restaurant. She highly recommended the char siew wan tan mee. I was a bit apprehensive because Meng Kee Char Siew is just opposite, and I would actually rather go there for some good char siew instead. My colleague recommended us to try out this restaurant. She highly recommended the char siew wan tan mee. I was a bit apprehensive because Meng Kee Char Siew is just opposite, and I would actually rather go there for some good char siew instead. However, since the majority of the group agreed, we went to Chen Jiang instead. Note that the shop name doesn't have English characters, so one has to be a Chinese reader. Anyhow, I ordered the highly recommended char siew wan tan mee. Surprisingly, it was quite good. The wantan noodle was cooked to perfection, not too hard, and not too soft tossed in some soya sauce, dark sauce and oil. The best thing is, the oil uses lard. It doesn't have the weird alkaline taste, which was a good thing. There were some vegetables and a fried wantan that comes in the set. The highlight has to be the char siew. Although it is not half fat half lean maltosed type like Meng Kee, it can definitely hold its own. The meat is lean, very tender and juicy. It also comes with a small bowl of soup with two pieces of wantan floating inside. The soup wantan is merely OK, nothing to shout about. For the price tag of RM5, it was well worth the amount paid.
