When it comes to choices of eateries in 1 Mont Kiara mall, it can be quite limited and most of them are you run-of-the-mill chain restaurants. Ko Hyang is located on the first floor, same floor as Sushi Zanmai, Sukiya and Steam Room. For some reason, even though I absolutely love Korean cuisine, I have not actually been to this place. Probably because of their less than desired 'kiosk/stall' setting. It is however rather popular and even at time of my visit (3.30pm) there were still quite a few

Probably because of their less than desired 'kiosk/stall' setting. It is however rather popular and even at time of my visit (3.30pm) there were still quite a few tables full of customers. So I decided to walk in and try something on the menu.

I like how their menu is small and manageable, consisting of some attractive set menus too. I chose the Dol Sot Bibimbap set because having lots of vegetables mixed together was pretty appealing to me. They offer a chicken or beef version and I opted for beef.

The set comes with a small bowl of soup. I'm not sure if this changes regularly but what I got was egg drop soup. It tasted pretty light but well seasoned. Comforting for my irritated throat.

The ban chan are all served together and here we have Kimchi (from left), Marinated anchovies and Potato cubes cooked in soy and garlic. All pretty tasty. I was particularly intrigued because the anchovies was sweet, rather than salty.

My glorious bowl of bibimbap arrived shortly after. I'm willing to overlook the overcooked egg (no runny egg yolk, but nevermind). What I really like though, is that they use purple and some mixed grains rather than plain white rice. Which means it's much healthier! As for the toppings, apart from the minced beef and egg, we have thinly sliced shitake mushrooms, shredded carrot, cucumber, onion, seaweed and radish. A good dollop of gochujang binds everything together. All I needed to do (and that was the fun part) was to mix everything together well.

Tada! Ready to eat! The colours are just so appealing! Taste wise, it was pretty balanced with sweet, salty, spicy and hint of tang (from the gochujang). Wonderful textural contrast happening there too, as most of the vegetables are still pretty crunchy, combined with some of the charred rice at the bottom. Needless to say, I finished this well and good! Oh I also added the Kimchi to the rice just for extra flavour boost. I guess if I'm ever too lazy to make this dish, I will just come here instead. Great discovery! Perhaps I will ask them to drop an raw egg in instead next time.

Service is surprisingly quick and very friendly. And my bill came up to RM21.60 with a bottle of mineral water.

Pa Jeon by Ko Hyang就是韩国传统的煎饼。外表看起来青青绿绿,因为放了大量的蔬菜。里面还有放了一些章鱼。不过份量太少了。主角很明显还是蔬菜。整个煎饼煎到外表很酥脆,可是却太油腻了。

Kimchi Kimchi. Craving for kimchi for few days. At last, I managed to come here for the Kinchi feast. Yummy yummy. Irresistible kimchi i crave. Had this for my light meal. Came here alone for the dining in. Coming here alone as my friends are all not free. Sad but at least I get what I crave for. The food here not bad and I love the environment over here. Love to visit here again with my friends or family next time.

Korean Rice cake has been my favourite since i started to eat Korean food. Ko Hyang offers a great serving portion and delicious Korean Rice Cake to us. Besides its mild spiciness of the rice cake, we can actually taste the sweetness in it after the spiciness. The rice cake is very soft and very chewy when bite, the hard boil egg is an additional bonus to the dish. Work great with each other together with all the vegetables aside to make this dish more interesting in taste

I am a Korean noob. There are so many terms which I often get confused with. Bul Go Gi stands for stir fried beef / chicken marinated in special soy sauce with vegetables and rice. The meat was tender to begin with. However it tasted rather mild but balanced. The use of sauteed onion was good but it was slightly too raw, hence it was overpowering the dish. It might be purposeful though.

Korean pancake is slightly different in execution. It is not the pancake we usually come across. In fact, it is more like egg-cake. This egg-cake was slightly crispy on the side, while soft for most parts. The seafood gave the egg-cake some natural sweetness while the egg supplied the egg-ness. I would say this is another healthy dish to go for as it is made of mainly egg, seafood, vegetables. The chili was an option but after trying it, I decided that I like to eat it on its own.

Loaded with lots of vegetables, egg, minced meat with brown rice, Bi Bim Bab is a healthy dish. Served in a stone pot, it helps to retain the heat in the dish longer, hence the enjoyable. What I like most about stone pot rice is the last scrape off the stone pot which is usually crispier and slightly burnt. Don't you think it looks pretty, especially the sunny side up? However the way I eat it (perhaps most people eat it) is to toss it around to make all the ingredients and sauce to blend into

The bibimbap was decent; I could taste the freshness of the vegetables by its crunchiness; the sauce was good to go with the rice. The egg was slightly overcooked though. The use of sesame was aptly as it had the aroma that could make the dish whole.

Overall, it was decent

I like the idea of bibimbap - lots of vegetables and kimchi paste arranged on top of some rice and topped off with a fried egg, sunny-side up. Toss it all up and you got yourself a dish likening Malaysian rojak (which is how I eat it). The bibimbap at Ko Hyang seemed to lack a little something though, but I couldn't pinpoint what it was. The egg also felt a little "plasticky" - I suspect they may have just microwaved it for easier cooking. The bulgogi is a little too dry, without enough seasoning

The bulgogi is a little too dry, without enough seasoning, and the onions were undercooked. The beef itself was average in texture; really nothing to shout about.

The korean pancake was pretty decent though. I was lapping these up real fast. Very similar to Indian vegetable cutlets (commonly found in rojak) except smoother in texture. I could probably eat a lot of these, given the chance.

Ko Hyang Korean Country Delights is one of the many Korean restaurants making a prominent mark in our food scene. Hubby ordered the cold version of rice mixed with vegetables, chili paste and chicken, topped with a sunny side up. Give it a good mix and we have a bowl of orangy-red rice that is savoury, slightly spicy and a little bit sweet. Don’t be hindered by the red mixture thinking that it’s very spicy, because it’s not, really.

Similar to the Bibimbap, I had the Dol Sot Bibimbap that was served in a hot stone bowl. The ingredients were pretty similar except that I had it with sliced beef instead of chicken. The stone bowl still sizzled when I mixed the combination, emitting an irresistible aroma in the process that had me salivating before I ate. It was definitely a good appetite-stirrer, the process of mixing that is. Between the cold Bibimbap and the one on hot stone, I preferred the latter because there’s always something about piping hot food that makes it taste so much better and comforting to the tummy, don’t you think so

Ko Hyang is what I would call a fuss-free dining venue where the menu is straightforward, the food is served in a jiffy and the dining environment is clean and unpretentious. It goes without saying that the food must be good too, to keep people coming back frequently, because the country-inspired dishes here make you feel right at home.
